but also what if volk goes back down and dominates yair, and comes right back up to 155. I know he should get a rematch but vacating his belt also means no champ champ status. He’d have to drop down and win a belt he already had to get champ champ status.

Yair deserves his shot but after such a close fight I wouldn't hate to see an immediate rematch beetween Volk and Makachev.

It was a great fight. Love Volk, sad he didn’t win the night but man it could’ve gone either way I thought. Wouldn’t say it was close to a robbery tho. Great takes btw! I’m liking your commentary and analysis while you can’t put together your standard content.

Makhachev striking is underrated IMO

Volk is one of the best strikers and Makachev held his own with him there. I think volk was definitely worried about the takedown so it opened up striking opportunities for Makachev.

No it's to unify the title with the undisputed champion. I can't think of a time that an IC has ever defended.

I leaned toward Volk getting the win while I was watching it, I definitely could see most of the rounds being a toss up. But to say Islam won 4 rounds? C'mon...

How can you say rd two and three are tossups and then say a 49-46 card is a terrible score card

I think DC says it best at 2:17 it's just a bad scorecard to have 4-1 for makachev the fight was extremely close I wouldn't argue with 3 rounds for him but 4-1 is just a huge stretch.

I don't understand why you don't like the 49-46 score card, you just said round 2 + 3 were toss up rounds that can go either way.. derek gave both rounds to Islam.. so it 49-46 is not crazy actually They could've scored both rounds to Alex which will be 48-47 Alex or 1 round each 48-47 Islam or 2 rounds for Islam 49-46 It's not crazy at all.

49-46 is totally reasonable. It just makes the fight seem lopsided, which it wasn’t. So a lot of people immediately think it sounds like an absurd scorecard before actually looking into the individual rounds. 2 & 3 were close toss ups, and Islam could’ve won either of them. Islam definitely won 1, and probably won 4 because of how much back control is rewarded, and Volk clearly won 5.

theres still the question on how you choke a person that doesnt have a neck. i firmly believe that volks size and bulkiness is an advantage for some fights.
