I think those who are frustrated that the 70 is the same design as the 90 are missing the point. Americans love space. Mazda is a small company. This is the only scalable solution to economically meet the market. Hardcore fans like myself will complain at the lazy approach, but the average consumer isn't going to care. Hardcore fans love Mazda design and driving experience, but the lack of space is holding the average buyer back, so Mazda is thinking this will address that issue. However, what I am concerned or frustrated about is the pricing of the 70. It should be priced much lower given the lazy, but forgivable, design approach.
Americans love space. They love efficient use of space even more. This thing is the size of a Grand highlander outside but about the size of a regular Highlander inside.
Look up the Cx80 specs and you will see differently.
If this was smaller than the 90 it would be a big hit. But it’s not so it won’t be.
they should’ve just brought he cx80 here without the third row and called it the 70 instead of this
@@jjoehleror keep the 90 name and just offer this as a 2 row option. In reality this is the same size as the regular Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's 2 rows and sells well.
This car truly is an amazing underdog. Wow... What a car...
Agreed
I have cx-60 and here is the list cx-70 is better 1. sliding the 2nd row 2. sunshades in the 2nd row 3. climate control in the 2nd row 4. touchscreen for carplay!!
Car looked great under the cherry blossoms!
4:30 There is no difference in the shape of the CX-70 & CX-90. It's your imagination. The lower bumper cutouts and the black spoiler are the only differences.
And the wheels and the color options for the exterior and interior But literally no difference aside from minor cosmetic ones
the long dash-to-axle ratio on an SUV is quite elegant and gives a very premium feel
Commonly referred to as "the Prestige gap" - definitely enhances the elegance!
Having driven this it feels very luxurious. The drive is comparable to other luxury auto makers
Best SUV in the market in all ways: the wheel design, exterior and interior design, physical buttons especially “map and music buttons ”, spacious, and Mazda's reputation of “Good build quality ”, can’t wait to get one. I called a couple of dealers in NY, and they say the CX-70 will arrive by the end of May
Couldn't agree more!
Great video on the mazda cx70 plug in hybrid does the cx70 comes natural aspirated engine or turbo charge engine if do what is the hores power and torque., please respond looking forward stay safe.
Minute 13:49 everything you need to know
Sam! I love it! Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching!
People hate on mazda for the cup holders in the rear. Toyota did the same with the new 4runners and gx550 just saying
But the 4Runner and GX550 can be had with a 3rd row. Technically speaking, the CX-70 cannot, unless you get the CX-90. So, no, it doesn't make sense, but just reinforced the ridiculousness of Mazda touting this as an "all new model" when it's literally just the CX-90 with new front and rear bumpers and no 3rd row.
@@senorgato70and what does ur comment mean? U will still get cup holders in the 3rd in the toyota when u get 2 row it basically the same 😂 i dont get how people are so mad about the naming, it wont hurt u guys
@@MonicaHolly143 if Toyota called the 3 row Land cruiser a Land Walker and the 3 row 4runner a 4 hopper that would be the same thing as what Mazda is doing. Creating a whole new model name for the 2 row version of an existing car.
@@th003g like i said its just a name it wont hurt you lmal
@MonicaHolly143 it's more than a name, it's how to spend limited funds that Mazda has. A separate marketing campaign. Misleading the buying public into thinking they would get something in between the 50 and the 90. The 70 should have been an option on the order sheet. Not a whole new model. 'All new CX70' my ass.
I don’t understand how you’re seeing a difference between this and the CX-90; it’s the same vehicle with a slightly different front bumper and a deleted third row.
I think he mentioned several times that its the same as cx 90 did he?
@@xsej4223 No. He didn't. He mentioned that it was "similar" but he likes it more... even though it's the same lol.
@@xsej4223Yes, he did say that they are similar, but look at what he says about the rear end from 4:24 - 4:50. To be fair, he also says that maybe he’s looking at it differently. Overall, though, he gives the impression that they are two different vehicles. They’re not; they’re the same vehicle with slightly different bumpers. At any rate, it’s a minor point. More importantly, I wonder if Mazda has tweaked the CX-70. Sam, unlike other reviewers, likes it surprisingly, considering his affinity for performance.
No matter the trim package you choose, only comes in 4 colour choices in Canada. And YAY, black "leatherette" too. ( as per Mazda Canada website )
Great job Mazda. I am impressed without even driving one. I can imagine that they drive wonderfully. 💙✌️
I totally agree!
Why hate though lol. I dont get it. Its additional storage.
It does have a touchscreen. You just have to turn it on in settings.
Watch the video carefully
All we wanted was the cx 60 in europe, not a cx 90 with no 3rd row.
Its the CX-70 LOL
I agree, I was hoping for the CX-70 to have the same dimensions as the CX-60. Unfortunately I will have to look at other brands for my next vehicle.
@@xavierdupuis8 loll you are not aware
The CX-60 has issues. Allegedly, the transmission behavior has been fixed. Rear suspension problems, only partly. I watched a new video on this subject yesterday.
@@michaels3003 it's rabid fanboys going crazy about what they, the equivalent of a sub reddit group, want. Like Mazda hasn't done its through marketing research that says "Americans like bigger cars, houses, etc".
I’m not mad at the CX90 and CX70 looking the same. Honda did something similar with the Passport and previous gen Pilot, although, Honda did more to differentiate their vehicles as opposed to only removing the 3rd row and calling it a day
Honda didn't do "something similar". They didn't just remove the 3rd row from the Pilot, change the front and rear bumpers, then call it a day. The Passport has/had completely different rear design, taillights, and is almost a foot shorter.
@@senorgato70 read what I typed instead of trying to start a pointless debate.
They don't look the same, they are the same. A 70 is a 90 without the third row and no option for captains chairs. The Passport is shorter than the pilot and the rear end is physically different in design, a unique rear third of the car. Yet, there's more room in a Passport than there is in a 70
@@th003g apparently very few people are interested to read today.
Mazda Europe has already revealed the upcoming Cx80. 4" shorter and narrower with a 4" shorter wheelbase. So they could have done something like that here. The Cx70 is simply a 3rd row delete, I find it hard to believe this was the original plan and the Cx80 is more evidence of that idea.
Wait, so does the CX-70 have the Turbo I6 engine as an option or not? You listed it for the Canadian specs but, does the U.S. also have access to the Turbo I6?
Yes correct
base model has a lower hp 6 with 280 horsepower the two higher end models have a 3.3 340 horsepower
Remove that Mazda badge in front and at the back then replace it with a BMW emblem and people would probably think it's a new BMW
Agreed
Not sure of the savings if you have to use premium fuel.
Did bro just break the embargo? 😮🤔 A good quick review though 👍
What embargo?
Guessing he's not under embargo because he got the car from the dealer and not from a Mazda launch event.
@@SamCarLegion, as of now, this is the only video on YT showing the CX-70 being driven. Local dealers show very small number of “in transit” vehicles and none of them are hybrids.
Класс!!!!! Hi from Ukraine!!!
Awesome wheels
I prefer the front bumper of the Cx-90, I’m not a big fan of those honeycomb air-dams.
You did mention carplay touchscreen , disregard my other post about touchscreen , but don't say no touchscreen ...please .
Is this expected to phase out CX-5, the standard 2 row? Or would this come with an optional 3rd row seater for those who wanted a 3 row but don't want something as long as CX90? What the market target ?
I don’t think so - it’s a CUV vs SUV
If anything, the cx50 would take the cx5 spot
I believe this is the same length as the CX90, just no third row.
No the cx-5 is much smaller and is the best selling Mazda car globally. It has been confirmed it will be back. The cx-70 is the same car as the cx-90 besides the third row and some bumper vents
@@Rockytop8118, companies are never “transparent,” so hundreds of guesses are being made. It is possible that Mazda expected higher CX-50 sales and lower CX-5 sales (year after year), so few people would be upset when the CX-5 is discontinued. Most recent CX-5 sales are down, but not very much yet.
Sam, no one else but you have posted this, are you sure there wasn’t an embargo that you forgot about?
I haven’t signed anything as far as embargo goes. I am assuming others have.
I was at the chevy dealer getting my wife's traverse serviced . Next door was Mazda I was looking and as soon as i seen this SUV I was like what a vehicle. this may just be the next lease car we get.
Amazing
👍 nice
Thanks
Looks better than 90 imo
Here's to hoping the new CX-5 design will be like the European's CX-60. Need that car in the U.S.
You will get the Inline 6 3.0L Turbo with 345HP!!!!Or the Inline 6 Diesel with 254HP. That´s enough to get forward. Lucky People in Canada and America!!!! In Europe we only got the 6Cyl. Diesel with 254HP!!!!
Ohh
No diesel in north america
The “better engine” models are significantly more expensive.
@@michaels3003 The 254HP Diesel AWD cost around 60k Euros in Germany!!!!
Inline 6 engine is not 3L...it's a 3.3L MHEV
beautiful suv
It sure is!
It’s funny when a car reviewer marvels over common features, like an armrest or keyless entry. In the case of the CX-70/90, these are actually cons, because: the cheaper CX-5 has a better rear armrest, and other cars in this price range would have keyless entry on the REAR doors, not just the front doors.
I don’t marvel over those features- I am showing you what it offers so chill
First thought I had was why is he at the BLC?
BLC?
It looks EXACTLY like a CX-90. Diff powertrain is all??
Same powertrain
It's the same car minus 3rd row of seating plus some cosmetic changes
@@robertduklus6555 Gotta wonder why build essentially 2 identical vehicles? ...and a starting price of almost $3K more????? Weird.
This is a more affordable and reliable BMW 🤔 unrelated this platform stretched would be perfect for new Mazda 929 flag ship....we can dream.
You cant say how reliable this is. Too new. X5 has a history of being reliable.
@@robertduklus6555Am not sure about BMW being reliable outside it's warranty period .to much plastic under the hood..some BMW even have plastic oil pan.smh
@smtyson1650 ford also uses plastic oil pans. Plastic or composite pan is not inherently bad. Use of plastic parts under the hood is the industry standard unfortunately
@@robertduklus6555 they are bad because they do not last..Ford has issues with them as well. Thank God most Japanese brand ain't doing that shit .no plastic will hold up to hot and cold temps.
@@smtyson1650most Japanese brand come with plastic valve cover gaskets. Also this has the timing chain in the rear of the engine just like Audi and BMW. So to do a timing chain, it’s either engine out or transmission out, plus it’s even harder than most Audis to work on. See the Car Care Nut’s video on it.
You got the CX60, CX70, CX80 and CX90 that’s the biggest.
I can't get over the inflated looking rear end. Almost like a beer belly. Looks superficial. Interior is sharp though and the front is nice. Wish that rear had a little less on it.
"The rear isn't as pointy..." It's the exact same body as the CX-90, with different bumper trim.
I kept ( and my team guy) looking at both of them, it doesn’t look as pointy in the CX70
@@SamCarLegion then that means that the trim is throwing you off. I'm a CX-90 owner and have been following the development of both of these vehicles for quite a while. This isn't my opinion. It's an absolute fact, confirmed by Mazda. The bodies (aside from blacked out chrome and different plastic trim on the bumpers) are identical. The interiors are identical. The drivetrains are identical. It's literally a CX-90 with the third row removed. And this isn't a complaint, as I see the value in both vehicles, just a statement of fact.
@@TheRotorious13b it could be for sure. Just my eyes ( and his eyes) made it look differently even though we saw them both at the dealership
@@TheRotorious13bYou may be right, but I also think the back end looks better on the CX-70
It’s a visual trick: the spoiler is black on the CX-70, but it’s body color on the CX-90
Need this on the drag strip asap
Defo
Nah. I tested the 90 last night on twistie roads and all I could think was a Watkins Glen type of track. The thing stays square in the turns way too good for an suv.
How short? Most vehicles do poorly at the 1/4 mile mark.
17.8 kilowatt HOURS, not kilowatts per hour.
How did sam get this first?
I have a set of skills..
This is a 5 seater cx90. Why?
Why not
Trying to prove that less is more when it isnt
A lot of cars come with 3rd row as options. I get it. But actually calling it a brand new model is really ridiculous. I'm actually embarrassed for reviewers like Sam who feel obligated to hype up this car as if it was something spectacularly new and "game changing". It honestly just proves to me that reviewers aren't honest and will hype up any new car just to keep getting invited to events or get tester cars so they can get new videos out for views.
CX-90 phev (except the base trim) will be a 4 seater if you fold the 3rd row. I think they did this on cx-90 to make space for cx-70
I think it's smart, not everyone wants 3 rows, but we want the size.
Apple CarPlay & Android Auto both allow for touchscreen use in this & the CX90.
Yep
But the Native UI is still controller only.
@@th003g correct.
The comments sections are continuously losing their minds on every CX70 post. Come on guys, get over it. If you're that mad don't buy the car😂
Some people think they own the company
Exactly.. whats the big deal about cx70 and cx 90 being similar.. ? Forget the badge and just pick which one they need.. at least mazda gives an option... too big?? Then get the cx 5 or 50.. people only put bad comments.. if they dont like it,,there are lots of option out there.. for me,, mazda is more premium than most brands. Drives great, and reliable.
All new suvs from this series cx 60 70 90 are all being criticized for too harsh suspension across all models and transmission not being refined. The gearbox apparently worx best in phev version. Is the ride quality improved for 2025?
Definitely not in this one
4:40 same car as the cx-90. Just a different bumper. I wonder if it’s the white paint that makes it look this way.
Maybe similar car
cx-90 without the 3rd row ....so you get basically less of a car for more money!
had to fact check this... starting price is $4k CAD more for the cx-70... wtf???
Obviously, you didn't do enough research. It's the same vehicle. Slightly different front and rear ends. Same shape, same length, less seats.
Obviously you watched 2 seconds of my video
Anyone who is curious. Get the 90. 2nd row captains chairs and the 3rd row seats down makes this 70 worthless.
I’d rather be able to seat five and have the underfloor storage.
The underfloor storage is nothing.a few bins that if you put anything in there would slide around. Ur gunna need to either fill it to the top for each compartment or put spacer’s in each one. Especially the bin right behind the 2nd row. The only way you can reach that is by climbing in the car.
exactly why I don't want the 90. I need bench in 2nd row and top trims stick the darn captain chairs there. Otherwise I would just a 90 and keep the 3rd row down
The only problem is that the 3rd row is not suitable period. It’s odd the way some are configuring their cars with just captain seats in the 2nd row in certain trim levels. I too also wanted a cx 60 with higher ev range and slightly different looks. Kinda a fail in that dept though
My boy said compares to the X5, I at that point stopped listening
Why shqipe? Whats wrong with comparing to the X5?
@@SamCarLegion well for one its about 30K difference and will never have BMW quality. And I am potentially shopping for one soon for the wife but to say its comparable or better is insane
Looks like the bmw x5 f15…
A bit
Hardly a "game changer," Sam is way off base on this one!
Why?
@@SamCarLegion you can get a CX90 for close to the same amount of money and have a 3rd row! I just feel Mazda was very lazy with the design and introduction of the CX70
Game changer is seriously overused expression
@@jmc6000exactly..CX70 should have been an all new design and styling and in a perfect compact SUV size like a CRV may be.
I like the front but I…..hate the back.
The only difference between this and the cx90 is the grill
Front bumper and rear bumper
Mazda takes away the third row from the CX-90 and calls it the CX-70. Then Sam says, "Probably one of the most important SUV's for 2024" "This thing is a game changer" hahaha
Glad you liked your own comment
Lack of lane centering assist is a huge omission for this price level of vehicle! Maybe wait for 2026...
CX-70 = CX-90 - Two seats + 3K$$$ 😀
@SamCarLegion It's the same vehicle, without a 3rd row. I find it amazing how in every review that you did of the CX-90, You went out of your way to rag on the vehicle . From your first review, where you nearly completely put it down, even calling it "ugly" at one point, to complaining about the second row space, to talking about how you weren't Impressed by the dash layout, door feel, etc. to drag races where you complained that it was painfully slow (when compared with vehicles that cost $15 grand more) And then in your most recent drag race, you compared the base engine CX-90 (while claiming it was the most powerful) to the most powerful versions of the other cars...and again complained. Now, you have what is essentially a CX-90 with the third row folded down, and all a sudden it's a revelation. Plenty of space in the second row now... (It's exactly the same as in the CX-90) A "game changer"😂. "The SUV you want..." It's almost comical. Almost.
cx70 is a waste lol why would you not get the cx90 with the 3rd row its not like the cx70 is smaller or any cheaper
It drives better and trunk space is larger
@@SamCarLegion "It drives better"? It's the same vehicle. With the 3rd row down in the CX-90, cargo room is identical. I think you need to review the CX-90 again. It deserves all the same praise you've suddenly given it, now that it has a "70" on the trunk.
@@TheRotorious13b I never reviewed the CX90 PHEV I actually said that initially…
@@SamCarLegion I understand this. But the complaints you had about the CX-90 went far beyond the drivetrain. And as several people have mentioned, aside from the lack of a third row, this is the exact same vehicle as the CX-90. I own the high output top trim level in- line 6 version and have driven the PHEV. The transmission is the same. There's certainly not enough of a difference with just the engine to account for the mostly negative reviews of your CX-90 turning to this glowing review of the 70. They're both equally good. I suppose it's a good thing that you're seeing it, but it's a shame that you ragged on the CX-90 early on.
16:05 wait, he doesn’t know that this car is the same as the CX-90?
It’s not the same car, similar
@@SamCarLegion CX-70 is a CX-90 with a 3rd-row delete and some trim and color changes... when the cars are fundamentally the same, dimensionally the same, designed the same, etc. that goes way beyond "similar" So what if it's called CX-70 and not CX-90? It's still essentially a new trim level of the CX-90 Literally the same... Whereas the CX-50 actually is a different model from the CX-5, despite their names suggesting otherwise.
Buy a cx90 and lower the third row, tada a 70 with better resale value.
@@brandononbrand This is the most intriguing thing to me . Because, he has always had mostly negative things to say about the CX-90 in the 4 videos he's had it in. Now he apparently loves it, with two rows. 😏
@@TheRotorious13bI wouldn’t say I like the CX-90, but l love the CX-70,2 row is the point. Who wants a 3-row that will never get a chance to use it ? I would rather have more trunk space, plus the CX-70 has good looking wheels and front and back bumpers and a new red interior, and the Mazda KPC technology makes the CX-70 handing better.
Sadly, Mazda missed a massive opportunity with this car. Instead they ripped the 3rd row out and rebadged it and walked away hoping buyers didn’t notice.
More than that
Not enough to rebadge it. Even my dealership is unhappy they did so little to differentiate. Might as well buy the 90 and at least have the 3rd row option
I wanted one but it's just too expensive! I ended up with my 2nd choice a Tiguan R-Line. 😔
So many times you say no touchscreen , wrong , when paired to your phone it is a touch screen if you click 'touch screen active in motion 'on the menu ...please stop saying NO touchscreen ...that is wrong .
Yes I said that too
If the CX-70 is about the same price and it looks almost identical to the CX-90, whats the business strategy here Mazda?
Honestly it’s a great strategy why? You get the option for both yet similar pricing. I don’t think everyone needs a 3 row suv. I wouldn’t get the 3rd row. The CX70 is the better value with tons of space.
They all look the same
That's racist
😂
And they look good so whats the problem
They don't look the same, they are the same. It's a cx90 without the third row.
Who care
So, why exactly is this a game changer? To each his/her own, but to me this is a bland looking SUV.
PHEV, great looking, amazing space, amazing mpg, loaded, amazing ride, quick etc.
@@SamCarLegion Sounds like a game changer to me!
@SamCarLegion space in a 90 is smaller than competitive 3 row midsize Crossovers. The 70 is smaller inside than a Passport. Apparently this new transmission setup has issues with smoothness. Yeah, some of the materials are nice but then other more practical features are not as nice as the competition. Second row vents in the center console and not In The ceiling or B pillars is a big one for families.
@th003g People who actually care about driving don't buy cars based on measurements alone. Our previous 2015 CX9 is larger than nearly every three row on the market today. We're a family of four with two nearly 6-ft teenagers, we've taken all of our annual family trips in our new CX90 and packed more than we ever have. It fits BETTER than it did in our hour old CX-9, with absolutely nothing blocking the view of the rear window. The measurements aren't everything. It's like being a single person with a five-bedroom home and then moving to a three-bedroom home, lol. Sufficient space is more important than excess space.
@TheRotorious13b larger how? exterior dimensions? A family of 4 with 2 six footers would have fit better in a RDx or Honda Crv than a CX9/90. That's the problem with Mazda. A CX5 should fill that niche but because of design decisions by Mazda, you need to step up to a midsize 3 row in their lineup to fit properly. The 90 is larger outside than the majority of its competition but smaller inside than cars a foot shorter. You cant fool physics. Mazda is a small company, for some reason, they try to cater to a small sliver of the buying demographic. 'Those who care about driving'. Apparently, that's not working, so now they're trying to go upmarket. They want to be seen as a good value alternative to BMW and Acura. It won't end well. Too bad people who care about driving and have money to buy a BMW will buy a BMW.
Imo this review is so biased (to sell)
If that’s the way you think, then every positive review is like that
Makes no sense. Its just a CX90
"Game changer" LOL. Come on now. The CX-90 changed absolutely NOTHING in the non-premium mid-size 3-row landscape and certainly didn't make a dent in the premium mid-size landscape. What makes anyone think this 2-row CX-90 will do any different? If anything, it no longer offers a perceived value against other 3-row premium cars since it is now only 2 rows.
I don't know about the "most important SUV for 2024", but it definitely has the ugliest front end of any SUV for 2024. And the back is very ordinary to put it "lightly"
Mazda.. what should we do differently? Copy Bmw suv!
Most 2 row SUV buyers don't want a boat this Long and big. wanted the cx60 ish size. Mazda dropped the ball on this Lazy release
🤮 looks like a station wagon👎 . Mazda should have bright styled it like the CX60 rather.
Awkward looks. A surprise for Mazda as they have been putting out great looking cars for a decades.
Just the same boring CX90 with a 3rd row off.
I'm a mazda fan boy! But everything about this vehicle is boring! There, I said it!
