  • An interesting thing to consider in this fight that wasn't covered was the actual evidence surrounding megs actual hunting strategy. Evidence suggests they were ambush predators who commonly targeted whales bu charging from underneath straight up, resulting in it ramming them, severely breaking their bones and inflicting massive damage via their bite. This would have likely been a very good strategy against the mosa who would be unable to look below them.

    @minibat7169@minibat71699 ай бұрын
    • The Meg probably would’ve ended the fight as soon as it began, due to its hunting strategy, but I assume the only reason why that didn’t happen was because the fight animation wouldn’t have been as entertaining.

      @thehale_@thehale_6 ай бұрын
    • @@thehale_that’s pretty much how this plays out in any of megalodon’s what ifs. Megalodon gets its opening ambush bite and everything ends right there, or it fails and is a sitting duck. The megalodon should have been finished with both the tail bite and the full bite. With one set of gills working, we’re ok. With the tail gimped, things don’t look great but we can live if we find easy prey. With BOTH? There’s only one set of gills left, and the injured tail can’t move the shark enough to feed that set of gills. Mosasaur just had to pull away and let the clock tick. In megalodon’s defense, the mosasaur would have lost the tail and died from the bite.

  • Fun fact- in real life there's actually evidence to suggest that some mosasaurs specialised in ramming attacks! The mosasaur Tylosaurus was found to have an increasingly large and robust bony protuberance on its upper snout as it aged; this protuberance would have helped tylosaurs ram their prey with increasing amounts of force as they grew larger- perfect for a specialist big game hunter, while Mosasaurus' crushing bite would have made it a generalist of both large vertebrates and ammonites.

  • I feel like this battle would have been different because mosa isn’t a hit and runner, it has a second pair of jaws (like an eels) that it uses to bite and tear off chunks of flesh from its prey. While its main jaws are mainly used to hold and grasp onto prey, not deal quick bites. I feel like the mosa would have won at the point were it bit the gills because it would’ve used its second pair of jaws to start tearing away at the sharks gills, while the mosa would be able to hold onto and swim with the shark, while it bled out and possibly died due to the damage to its gills.

    @viviengonzalez3766@viviengonzalez37669 ай бұрын
    • tbh ur right, but still due to the momentum and speed the shark's achieving, and due to the little grip strenhth there would be as the surface isn't that solid and rigid(near the shark's body), I'm pretty sure some gills may tear off, but with only moderate damage to the organs inside. And the shark would still mostly carry the same attack just like the video, but the outcome would've been changed by at least 40% My opinion

      @kiritomorningstar3442@kiritomorningstar34428 ай бұрын
    • Realistically there's several points where the mosa should have died sooner, Megalodons had theoretically the strongest bite force of all time. That tail should have been severed, leaving the mosasaur to bleed out. Something like this could go either way, and real animals can't take nearly so many hits before they die. If you watch real footage of predators fighting each other, it's typically over very quickly for one side or the other.

This video reminds me of the great white versus saltwater croc episode in the _Animals Face-off_ series, especially when _Mossasurus_ is also a reptile; the result & rationale are also similar. To me, both in real paleontology & this sci-fi scenario, the megalodon is undisputed victor with aforementioned reasons. That battle with the kraken in the movie alone is enough to tell the toughness of this creature!

  • I have to correct something you missed in the bite section. Mosasaur has a secondary inner top jaw. This jaw moved independently of it's primary jaws, and was used to shred prey while the primary jaws held the prey. If you look closely at the inner top mouth of INGEN's Mosa, you see it also has this second jaw. This makes the Mosa's jaws and biting strategy different. The meg will bite and back off, a hit and run tactic. Mosa will hang on for a bit, using it's inner jaw to shred any part it bites. This will most likely result in more blood loss, and potentially more debilitating damage.

It would basically just be spiraling like a football as it swims forward until it dies. Many animals use this weakness to hunt and/or defend against modern sharks

Though the meg would likely have difficulty adapting to loss of a fin at first, it would likely not be enough to significantly throw it out of control. • I can totally understand the analysis. And it is a great work of art. I love how goji center went over almost all the most important parts and made all understandable. But I must say that they forgot the Megs biggest weakness. It's tail. Sharks swim with their tail and that to at least 60%. So getting even injured in that area would mean certain doom to the shark. The mosa is going to target the tail since it is the thinnest part of the Meg which means that its vulnerability is much higher which will cost it its life. So it comes down to the first ambush of the Meg. But in all straight up battles the Mosa should actually win since it will disable its opponents movement. But that just comes from me. Still love the video.

    • @@l4z3rgh0st3 I can agree but the speed loss would make it possible for the Mosa to stop the Meg and hold it down and the dorselfin is their way to manoeuvre so I agree that a wound to the dorselfin would be the end since the meg would not be able to turn anymore or if the meg could it would be very slowly. And the tail doesn't need to be severed it is enough to damage the muscles on one side since they are in a constant state of stress they would snap on one side since the other would pull much harder. That is a phenomenon that happens in animals with muscle's that are under constant use since they normally should never be damage to a certain degree. But it all comes down to the amount of damage that is done and how fast it happens.

It is also a virtual confrontation between two marine predators that terrorized the sea in Earth's history, but I like the fact that they carefully analyzed the exaggerated descriptions in the movie in a duel that will cool down the hot summer. The Meg was hardly even swimming during that jaw lock, which could’ve caused it to drown if neither let go after some time. As for the Mosa’s death from it, I think those shark teeth are self-explanatory.

When it went in for the gills it should’ve targeted the fins instead as those are more obvious weak spots or go right back to the tail. But of all of its attacks the ram at that moment was the dumbest. The mosa could’ve won this fight if it targeted the more obvious weak spots first.

    • “It had already injured the Meg’s tail. So that should’ve been it’s main focus” I don’t think it’s easy to focus on a large thrashing tail, even if the mosa focused on it, it would’ve opened up a lot of weaknesses for the meg to exploit. One good bite from the meg is basically gameover. “When it went in for the gills it should’ve targeted the fins instead as those are more obvious weak spots or go right back to the tail” The mosa wouldn’t be able to hold on to the tail if it went for it, same reason why it let go of the gills (the reason it let go of the megs tail in the first place was explained in the video) Had the mosa went for the fin, it probably wouldn’t have worked either. The meg would probably just thrash around and the mosa would’ve let go just like the gills. “But of all of it attacks the ram at that moment was the dumbest” We have to remember that the mosa from JW hasn’t ever fought a large aquatic animal like the mosa. So it isn’t gonna be the smartest fighter. High Intelligence doesn’t necessarily give you a high battle IQ.

They are too close to the roof of the mouth of the Mosa, the most damage they would have done is mere scratches and not nearly the amount of biting damage of the outer row. These were basically obsolete against the Meg since its too big and wide for these teeth to be useful

    • That’s what I was thinking. Goji makes a point that the mosa had better lung capacity and intelligence I really don’t see why they had it makes SO MANY tactical mistakes especially after that beautiful opening counter. I honestly just think they were biased towards the Meg since the start because this fight animation made little to no sense after about the halfway mark. Between the mosa disengaging and leaving itself open in the process to chasing the Meg into deep water where it knows it doesn’t have the advantage, to charging the Meg straight on, to chasing into even deeper water, then somehow the mosa just loses all mobility even though it was supposed to have less vulnerability’s and higher agility. The fight should have been over after the initial tail bite on the Meg since that’s it’s only means of propulsion and also the bite on the lung absolutely should have sent it over the edge especially since it immediately went into the Mesopelagic zone where oxygen is far less concentrated than it is closer to the surface. Meaning that Meg absolutely would of not come back up. Not even mentioning the fact the Meg didn’t actually ever go that deep considering it hunted in coastal warm waters.

    • That's also the first thing that came to mind. The shark can't breath if it's not moving, so just by holding on to the tail (or really anywhere) for a few seconds should be enough to drown it. Realisticaly what I think would happen based on real life examples is: the shark gets initiative for detecting the mosa first, and has one chance to ambush it. It either hits and kills the mosa with a single bite to the belly, or it fails and has to retreat for a second chance, at which point the mosa gets the chance to retaliate and will most likely win. I guess the animation would be too short and/or not as interesting that way.
