The biggest loss that Paradox Interactive has had in recent years is Imperator Rome. A game that was made to be a success and a bridge between the EU franchise and the CK franchise, it completely flopped and today we'll check out why and if it's playable now, after the 2.0 patch, and what's the current state of the game.

My Germania now has a higher pop density than modern day Hong Kong and there's not a single city left standing around the Med. No other paradox title offers this kind of gameplay. • A couple of tips for those who've tried the game and were frustrated by the mechanics. Unlike EU4 you want to have a fort in every province and not just on the borders. Forts reduce unrest which increases province loyalty. So at least 1 fort per province and 2-3 for newly conquered states. That along with theaters and temples in cities when you can research them. Second trick is if a province has declining loyalty of less than 34, you can switch the governor out and back and they will usually change to harsh treatment without wasting PP. At a small cost of loyalty, hopefully you didn't assign the governors job to someone with low loyalty beforehand. Third is to have only 1 city per province, obviously your province capital. It's more efficient to have have 1 city with 90 pops than 3 with 30. Pick a place with the best habitability even if its not the best resource available. Exceptions being a low population province (below 30-40) where it may be ok to have a 2nd city strictly as a granary silo. More available food increases pop growth, doesn't work as well in high pop states. Also your capital region where 4-6 cities may be ok for the extra goods trade bonuses. Next and more challenging; Tyranny is your friend. Not a good one but it's the best source for AE reduction, plus adds to slave output, more tax money. So sack cities that you don't need. Just be weary of loyalty, maybe research loyalty techs. After that research levies starting XP, levies can give tons of Mil XP when disbanding. There are guides on the paradox page that explain it clearly but basically you can finish an entire military tree within a few years by raising and disbanding levies every 6 months. In regards to legions, don't bother with legions until you're making $100+ income. You won't be able to field enough of them until you're making bank. Now, once you do get legions there is an exploit where you can get them almost unlimited morale. It just depends on how many foreign holy sites you have access to, each one is supposed to give a 10% permanent morale boost to a legion when sacked. Its supposed to only do it once. But due to the game being perfectly balanced. What you can do is split up which ever legion you want to do this to and send one to however number of temples you want. Then pause the game and go through all the units and destroy each holy site with the legion. You'll see the event pop up repeatedly. I've gotten a 400% morale boost in Ironman. Usually I restrict myself to a meager 50-100% boost as I try to spread it around all my legions. And morale actually increases your damage output. My legions can easily fight 4-5 times their number, such victories give more rewards and bonuses. Eventually you'll have a single 10k legion smashing 100k troops. Lastly horse archers are OP, just like in real life. If you have access to the Persian military branch use them instead of heavy infantry and cavalry. Don't give them logistics or engineers. Have dedicated siege legions with infantry set aside. Because they can move at speed for 4, double the speed of infantry at 2. And they have 5 maneuver in battle. Basically they can hit everyone around them. Combined with the Persian bonuses and the "bull" battle tactic they're like roving helicopter gunships. The only thing that can stop them is a dedicated army of light cav but the AI never makes such an army. And they're good as far as army weight, not having the extra weight modifier that heavy cav has. Early steppe horde goes BRRT!

    • @@lutherosmatthaios Thanks! Hopefully it helps. The game is honestly decent. There are some frustrating moments with characters going rogue. Like this one time my admiral decided to go for a joyride in the Mediterranean with my main fleet instead of landing an army on Cyprus. All because someone else in my court inspired disloyalty in him. And as annoyed as I was, it was actually interesting because the characters don't behave like mindless robots who follow your every word. There is so much depth they could have added to the game. But we can still do goofy things like rivaling a baby and banishing it. Can't imprison or execute it but banishing a baby is just as good.

      @heitoroliveira2025@heitoroliveira20252 ай бұрын
    • @@heitoroliveira2025 From what I experienced; unless you start as one of the big powers with lots of cities and integrated pops you'll be struggling to catch up and research techs for the fist 20-30 years as a kingdom/republic and longer as a tribe. It's not the end of the world though, most countries have 0,1,2 techs for the first few decades. The first priority is to build cities or capture some. After that build academies and libraries. I usually do the max 3 academies and 4-5 libraries in the capital. The foundry is also pretty good but will take 4 innovations (1 tech in each) to research. You can do a similar build in other cities but make sure they're your primary or integrated culture as there is a big debuff to research if its not. Beyond that you can move pops into the cities. The slave pops will promote faster with a larger city.

      @robertalaverdov8147@robertalaverdov81472 ай бұрын
    • So I barely ever touch the manpower, trade route, research or tax buildings until I've built up to the 3-building cap on at least one pop ratio building, have a theatre, foundry and temple, and level 5 port. Nobles and Citizens give research and generate more trade import routes, Nobles giving way more. I have three general city designs. But there are some 'always take these' buildings. My usual priority sequence on city buildings is: 1: fort if province capital (or on defensive terrain cities if your economy can take it) 2: lvl1 port 3: foundry 4: grand theatre 5: City specialisation 6: Grand temple 7: Ports up to lvl5 8, onwards: Depends on city specialisation. As for the different city specialisations I use: 1) province capital Freemen ratio buildings (they also give a considerable food modifier, which applies to all trade goods food if it's the province capital), AND slave ratio buildings (they boost migration attraction), spend any spare build slots at end of sequence on granaries or aqueducts if you know what you're doing. 2) research/advanced economy Noble ratio buildings Spend spare building slots on marketplaces 3) ez economy Slave ratio buildings, spend spare build slots on tax buildings.

  • I agree that more people should play this game. "Dead game"? What does that even mean? It's polished and feature-complete with awesome mods and community, Invictus doesn't even disable achievements. It's not a Live Service game (which most people hate but keep playing and paying for some reason), how can it be dead? It's only dead if you don't play it. No official future patches and DLCs? Nobody's entitled to DLCs, especially when people keep absolutely SHITTING on PDX DLCs for some petty reason. So just play it and shut up! It's a good game!

It's a lash and vibrant land, home to some massive urban metropolitan cities of Persian/Indian vibes. In midst of all this, a Hellenic kingdom. Architecture isn't Greek or anything, and most locals speak a dialect of ancient Persian...but military nobility is mostly greek, as is the royal court. All that existed for a few centuries, until resurgent Persian Empire, under Parthians, annexed the region.

The city you pick gets those bonuses for the rest of the game (assimilation and migration attraction I think), it becomes the capital of the province, and it will found a city there if there isn't one already. The capital of the province is important as slaves will be distributed there in wars so it will grow quickly! • I started playing this a little again because all the videos that popped up. I had so high hopes when this was being developed. But on release i was so disappointed that i didn't go back until now. I have all dlc etc. but its a shame that they didn't get to do more with the game. I really dont like the clan/family system. it gets in the way of playing the game in my opinion. And getting negative to characters loyalty when you assign them to a province is really weird because they should be glad you gave them something and you can take it away again easily as long as they are not to disloyal and rebelling. so the debuff with them having power, when it is something given and that can be taken seems like a really bad mekanic. but other than that, there are some really good things and it is quite fun now.

  • i loved the europa rome vae victis, (specialy with the epigoni mod) It had many different starting date offering different starting scenario to play from one faction or the other with their respective historical figure and so on. The part i liked the less in rome was the trading ressource buff and trying to optimise them.... and in imperator .... They 10x that part of the game, i start the game and i just look at trade, think on how to organise it for 5 minutes, then just close the game.

I put probably 10 hours in trying to continue his bloodline before finding out it's scripted to have no kids and die young, so I quit playing for a while.

It’s now everything I was hoping it would be back when I was playing imperium universalis mod on eu4 in anticipation of it dropping. Imperator Rome definitely deserves a second chance by everyone who tried at the beginning and new players!

  • I really love this game, developing cities and provinces is fun, connecting the world with roads feels satisfying, loved the pop system. With some economic and cultural DLC this game could have been a masterpiece. Problem is that Rome is boring to play, and every other power's only real goal is to race against Rome and India. Not enough alt history.

  • Announcing it before CK3 REALLY hurt the game. All the new CK fans wanted CK in Roman times so they were naturally disappointed. My favourite game was EU:Rome, so I was disappointed to get a game over screen when my tribal lands had a revolution. That was so anti paradox for me. Imagine getting a game over in EU4 if rebels win or Victoria. It made playing small nations pointless. 2.0 changed so much I couldn't get into it. One thing that should be in all future games is setting an army to autonomously hunt rebels.
