  • I feel like it’s not really a break up album, it’s more of just life as a teenager and the difficulties we go through. Relationships (romantic and platonic) are a big part of that so a lot of the songs are focused on that, but she also has ‘brutal’ which is just about life being difficult, ‘jealousy, jealousy’ which is about the toxicity of social media, and ‘I hope you’re ok’ which is about growing up with homophobic parents and all the difficulties that come with bad parents. And also for a lot of people, they relate some of the break up songs to a more platonic friendship?

    • this is exactly true!! i get so mad when ppl say that her and taylor swift just write breakup songs. We saw people saying the same thing to Taylor Swift when she released fearless but it’s because ppl don’t understand that it is an album for and about teenage girls it’s like their little diary which is why people dislike it. idk if any of that made sense but yanno

  • Can we talk about how Hope ur ok is such a good song. Like it addresses children of abuse and having to unlearn their parents hatred and learn to accept love. And how in extremely religious households can be unhealthy w “they cared more about the Bible than being good to their own child” (obviously not all religious households are like this, but some are and it’s not okay and I feel like Christian and catholic households get away with it way more than they should). It’s such an amazing song.

They both are very open minded people. My parents have always believed in god ,but don’t think you should live life the way the Bible does. My aunt has this gay friend and he’s such a sweetheart and my mom absolutely adores him. I just wish more people were like this but obviously not. But no one should care more about a bible than their own living child. Like I am pretty sure god himself would be mad.

  • During "Enough for You" when Tristan talked about how all the songs are probably a story being told not a song about someone, he got it exactly right. I think she said it in the behind the scenes of "Deja Vu" that she has a notes app on her phone of ideas and that one started out as a stalker jealous ex gf idea. I noticed it too when listening to the album, then watching the behind the scenes it confirmed it when they showed how they came up with some lyrics that didn't even relate to her. Like I didn't think of it before when it was only "Drivers License" but of course it won't be exactly accurate. I mean it could, but it's like the way I come up with story ideas for books. Those stories aren't a reflection of my life, sure I might include some jokes and stuff if they fit in the story and one idea of mine started when I dreamt I was Ross Lynch's co-star and turned out he had a crush on me (lol), but the end result is gonna be completely different, because you change it to tell a story and real life isn't that straightforward.

    • I agree. With all these songs, I really do not think they are all necessarily about her life. She’s had like 2 relationships (that I know of), so it is very likely they’re just stories, which is nice because even though I don’t know them like at all, I would really hope her past relationships were not this tragic and toxic.

      @Me-ju6gp@Me-ju6gp2 жыл бұрын
    • I agree and disagree at the same time. I think some of it is definitely generalized and story telling, but in quite a few of the songs there are little connections of specific details that make me think she is using her last relationship and breakup to influence those songs if that makes sense. So I personally saw it as a little bit of both
