Part 8: • Michal Jai White on Wh...
Part 1: • Michael Jai White, Who...
--------
In this clip, Michael Jai White reacted to the criticism he received for saying he'd never be an MMA fighter because they don't make enough money. Michael went on to explain why this is true by a simple comparison to boxing. He said that oftentimes, boxers who've made upwards of $100 million wind up broke after their career. Michael deduced that MMA fighters must really be financially precarious because they don't have the same earning potential as boxers with the same downsides, especially post-career.

  • The exact reason why McGregor fought Floyd and is fighting Pacquiao. He isn't an idiot. Conor is getting to those paydays, like Floyd when he decided to promote himself in boxing. It's sad Conor had to cross over to boxing just to get paid his worth.

He's literally treating his career like Floyd. Putting his well being, finances, and future first and not caring about what other people think. Same thing happened with Canelo after he fought Floyd. He started making the same strategic decisions. Pacquiao too. He did business with PBC and Al Haymon for his fights after the Mayweather fight.

  • In the world of combat sports only those at the top get paid and people realize unless you have good sponsors as a fighter you pay for everything from your training to all living expenses. I have a good friend who was a pro boxer and had a few high profile fights. After he retired he was broke and broken. Everyone who benefited from him while he was fighting abandoned him after the career was over. When he died we had to raise money to bury him. In the fight game the promoters are the only ones who's future is secure.

  • He's not wrong, although the UFC is terrific for fans due to their competitive match making, the actual fighters really get screwed and get peanuts. Look at boxing, although the matchmaking is sometimes horrible, guys like Mayweather, Canelo, Fury, Pacquiao, and Anthony Joshua make money that not even the top UFC guys combined could dream of. Hell, even McGregor made 100 million in that circus boxing match; he made more money in one boxing match than his entire UFC career put together and then some.
