13:50 Rebels Recap
Hey welcome back ScreenCrush, I’m Ryan Arey nd, and I am here to recap a lot of Star Wars for you. We’re going to cover the entire series of Star Wars Rebels, and the histories of Thrawn and Ahsoka Tano-basically this is everything you need to know before watching the Ahsoka Tano series. And if you’re only here for the rebels recap the chapter is marked below. We have a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
Ahsoka was born in a small village on planet Shuli. Which was part of the Galactic Republic. The republic has stood for a thousand years, protected by Jedi knights, who wield a cosmic energy called the Force. Ahsoka showed Force sensitivity even as an infant, when she persuaded a space-tiger not to eat her. Years later she was adopted into the Jedi order by master Plo Koon.
Soon after this, the events of the phantom menace happen. After evil space teamsters invade a planet with robots, Jedi master qui gon jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi save the life of the queen of naboo, Padme amidala-then they get sidetracked to tatooine, where they meet a kid named Anakin Skywalker who is unbelievable powerful with the Force [clip].
They take Anakin back to Coruscant, the capital of the republic, where the naboo crisis leads to a new chancellor being elected-named Sheev Palpatine. Meanwhile the Jedi are worried about the re-emergence of the Sith, their sworn enemies who use the dark side of the Force. Anakin immediately takes the heroine to Padme, qui gon is killed by a sith lord named Darth Maul, Obi-Wan gets revenge and promises to train Anakin.
Maul is from planet Dathomir, which is inhabited by powerful dark side users called the night sisters. Tears after Maul's defeat, the night sisters build him robot legs and restore his sanity.
But now we have to go to an unknown region of the galaxy. This is going to get a little technical for a second, but it’s important. Ships in star wars navigate through a kind of subspace called hyperscale using super advanced computers that chart through the galaxy, like Han explains [clip].
It's been theorized that hyperspace is somehow tied to the Force itself. The earliest hyperspace travelers developed the technology because they observed space whales called purgill using the Force to travel through hyperspace-and it’s also thought that early Force users or Jedi were responsible for navigating hyperspace before the technology existed to do so.
But the unknown region is nearly impossible to navigate because thousands of years ago there was some kind of natural disaster that damaged hyperspace, creating dangerous pockets called the chaos. People who live in the Unknown Regions use Force sensitive people called navigators to sense their way through this chaos.
So the Unknown Regions are totally separate from the rest of the star wars galaxy, with different races, technology, and customs. Think of it as the old world, and the new world.
So the major power in the Unknown Regions is called the Chiss ascendancy, a very secretive, advanced, and cautious government that rules many many planets. The Chiss are also a highly political culture, ruled by various families on a ruling council.

I’d rather have the ramens than factor. Factor is gross and makes people sick
Wow. As a former editor in film class I can tell that you’re putting in the work/curation. Gotta give you and your goofy dog credit for taking the time to chop your ideas up for us. May the force be with you my dude. Great job.
Long story short, someone did their homework. However, you forgot to mention that (present-day) Sabine has Ezra's green lightsaber that Chopper has held onto for all these years.
$20 your audience has no idea where " I'm very badly burned" comes from.
@@stevejackson9952 You owe me $20. Lol I know without Googling.
"I don't fear you." "Then you will die braver than most." Vader is so goddamn cool
Vader showing ON TOP of his TIE fighter means he's piloting it remotly with the force, doing all that to impress Ezra. Boss move.
bro always gets the coolest lines
And he always has the high ground now that hes vader
@@DiegoreSCL Vader doesnt care shit about this kid "Ezra", he is a free meal for Vader...
Other than killing little kids and his pregnant wife... yeah, he's not bad
Good Job covering the backstory of The Clone Wars and Rebels. I watched all of them, but it was a good refresher. I'm looking forward to Ahsoka!
yep same. so helpful since i did consider rewatching both series but idk if i can commit the time to it right now.
@@mcm4rr Lol nobody is going to watch a 15 year old cartoon so they can understand Ahsoka. The series is DEAD.
@BuckyBarnesATL The show is currently bombing. But I'm glad you had a good time! 👍
Was it though?
Yes it was!
“He.. will.. avenge us” is my favorite line of the show. Especially delivered to Obi-wan. Maul was dark side but no longer truly sith. And he died in Obi’s arms (who he hated) knowing the light side would prevail. And being ok with it. It’s night quite a redemption but it’s damn close.
Honestly that maul death scene when he talks to obi wan it’s just so perfect because even after all that time and even after losing it’s like he gave up his hatred like he was glad to be free of it it was really the only time he seemed content you could almost say happy for maul idk if he is even capable of it but that scene shows that in those last moments how he changed coming to his death not mad not angry but content knowing it’s not for nothing that obi wan will train the boy and destroy the sith such a perfect scene
Yup agreed that scene is perfect! The killing blow that Maul tries to complete against Obi-Wan is almost exact in the finishing blow Maul delivered to Qui-Gon. This shows that Obi-Wan most likely revisited this moment time and time again since watching his Master's death and found a way to counter it... leading to the quick conclusion of this fight.
A lot of ppl passed up on rebels cuz they think it's a kids show but it provided some of the best SW moments and added a lot of lore
I was one of those people. Took me a few years but I was finally convinced to watch it. Glad I did!
Only the last 2 seasons are good. The rest is filler.
@@benjaminneumann3687 nah, twilight of the apprentice is one of the all time great SW moments
But... It clearly IS a kids show.
@@acu01136 well even George Lucas said he made star wars for kids yet here we are
For one moment I thought you'd said "Scattered sexy Mandalorians across the galaxy." Then thought of Pedro Pascal and Katie Sackhoff and thought, "Well he's not wrong."
The fact you took all that information an make it coherent and comprehensive is amazing you and your team are extremely talented and dedicated much appreciated what a great video
and cronological.
This might be one of the best recap of the "non-skywalker" saga. Well done!
Wren isn't a house, it's a clan. Clan Wren is part of house Vizsla
Rebels is such a well written series , I still binge it regularly 💯
Looking forward to it. Can we take a minute to give the Andor series some credit? No spoilers but his experience in the prison system was crappy for him, but very well written. And let’s hope that they got the obvious plot point done in Mandalorian season 3 we can shift to better space western vibes that got us hooked. It was cool how Mando highjacked Boba Fett’s show.
@@MrBuketmanLOL no andor doesn't need a round of applause every 5 seconds
@@Apac12 I’m saying that put it off for like a year and it was actually better than I thought. Not giving it a standing ovation but it’s worth the watch for sure.
@@MrBuketmanMando season 3 was so bad it should have ended after season 2
@@charlesbarkley223 Well hopefully it can go back to what they did right during the first two seasons. Including what happened in Boba F.
This is the ultimate Star Wars summary. It helps a lot to those who are new to the saga. Great Job, Screen Crush team!
This was ridiculous in a great way. It's always so fun to see how all the different media come together. I haven't kept up with the books in the new canon so I really didn't know much about the Thrawn backstory aside from what is in Rebels. Kanan's death gets me every time. (Also thank you so much for the little Jedi: Survivor shot at 12:09. UGH that one still hurts!)
Kanan's death packs one of the biggest SW death punches to my heart.. Idk, just a beautifully tragic scene
It doesnt matter how many times i see it, Kanan's death always brings tears to my eyes.
Same. :(@@soccerstar41
Feel like I should grab some snacks and a beer for this one. I’ve got A LOT of catching up to do here, probably have to watch this twice!
Just watch rebels!!! It’s awesome
Why do people just refuse to watch rebels? Its a great show you can knock it out easily by NEXT Wednesday when 3 episodes of Ahsoka
@@danielhughes5932why do you assume that he refuses to watch it?
@@clone_genius_99 he did up until the point he couldn't follow the next live action completely unless he did. But I'm more commenting on the theme of lots of people basically saying "i don't know the whole story so this BETTER BE GOOD DESPITE THAT" when if they have D+ the story is free at their finger tips
@@danielhughes5932I can't stand the animation style, that's why. It's the only reason why I haven't watched any of the other animated SW series. Although, after watching several recaps it's starting to grow on me.
Can I be honest? You’re my favourite KZheadr and the fact you can dish out liquid gold in every video is just amazing. Your videos are film analyses that should documented and preserved for future generations 🙏🏾
agreed 100%
Spot on! Him and Ryan George's "Pitch Meetings" are the two creators I enjoy the most on KZhead.
HEAR HEAR 🙌🏻
Big facts
4 mins in till the ad stop. Mans telling you about a story you’ve been known 1000x over. But continue you on padwan
Andor. You know a show is so goddamn good when a single scene gives you chills. Those Saw Guerrera and Luthen Rael dialogue scenes are just pure perfection. Andor is perfection
If you watch closely after the battle on Malachor, both Vader and Ahsoka walk away from the temple in the end.
Of all the videos I've seen that have tried to describe the history of style was this was one of the best. Actually wish the video was a little bit longer and it covered a few more details. Thanks for this, coming out right before ahsoka helps remember a lot of the details.
That should have said the history of Star wars
having not watched Rebels at all this completely caught me up to speed before Ahsoka - thanks Screencrush crew!
Damn, Forest Whittakers lines as Sol Guerrera is just spot on and the passion he delivered in both Andor and Rogue one 🥲🥺😭🙌
If they make another spinoff series following a character I want it to be him. So damn good.
Perfect prologue to the Ahsoka series. Nothing can beat watching the stories themselves unfold but this has everything that one would want to know coming in.
I really like the Star Trek fight scene.
Did anyone notice when ashoka fights Vader. She cuts half his mask, exposing his left eye. When obi one fought Vader on the show, he exposes the right eye. When Luke fought Vader, the entire mask was removed.
Duh
Oooh!! Thats too good! I never noticed that!
Only heard this a million times
Doug's "your mom?" was the best I heard in years. Surprised you didn't mention Timothy Zahn's work. I can barely wait for this show, it's gonna be 6 long days
I wish you would have added @9:30 that Anakin changed the color of her light saber and how Maul told Ashoka that Anakin would be the new apprentice for Sidious. You could have added how Ashoka was apart of a meeting in Revenge of the Sith and almost told Yoda about what Maul told her about Anakin.
None of that has any bearing on the overall story whatsoever.
It would have connected her more to the skywalker saga... You know the star wars story that casual non cartoon watching fans actually know / care about.
@@acu01136 yup. They don’t know the saga.
The only thing you got wrong was Anakin never thought he killed Padme. He literally says when Sidious tells him that he killed her, "she was alive, I felt it." Then the big, "Noooooooooooooooooo".😂
Well after that he does think he killed her, sooo not wrong technically
It took me all these years to find out Kanan is a rebooted version of Rahm Kota.
As a star wars superfan, I still love your recaps! Very engaging!
Navigators, and Skywalkers, and pathfinders, oh my! (I'm listening to the Ascendancy books on audible now... Gotta love Zahn! And Thrawn! 🎉❤🎉❤❤
It's driving me crazy, do you know how Baby Yoda ended up with those pirates? If they had him, why didn't they take him to the Imps? I have so many questions. I wish they would a short web series or dedicate a couple of episodes to his backstory. The thought of him laying in that crib with no frogs to eat is just too sad to leave with no explanation. Especially what happened to Kelleran Beq.
Love the channel. Manager Doug needs to give you your promotion already!
And that’s everything, from A to Zeb
I don’t think obi wan fell in love with Sabine I thinks it’s “satine”…
Oh no☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
I think it's obi wan kenobi
Another great breakdown from a great channel! Ahsoka went from annoying new 2008 character to top 5, in my opinion, SW characters of all time. Been waiting for this show to come to life for years.
I think it’s important to note that Maul didn’t fight Kanan and blind him. Rather, they were working together and he blindsighted Kanan (pun intended).
The "good one" was soooo perfectly timed . . .
This was a great recap! But I did want to point out one thing - you said only one youngling escaped the night of execute order 66, Grogu… but remember Reva Sevander AKA Third Sister also survived that night and escaped.
Also Cal Kestis
And Gungi
And... Basically any young Jedi that is needed for a spin off, game, series or comic. I have a hard time not double taking when my nephews watch young Jedi adventures without thinking... Oh sh!t... Did they really make a cartoon about all the children darth vadar is going to slaughter!). (I checked the wiki, it was way before his time :/.)
But grogu is the only one that matters for this show
I blinked and missed the part where Mon Mothma signed a treaty with the Imperial Remnant and this was what led to the reduction of Alliance military. Thanks for this clarification! Stupid-ass decision BTW, Mothra.
I think my biggest wish is for Barris to show up as a gray. Ashoka went from light to gray and Barris goes from dark to gray
Gray Jedi isn’t a real thing
This whole grey Jedi thing has gotta stop☠️
While I agree the whole 'grey Jedi' thing is not my jam, I REALLY want to see Barriss redeemed. I can't stand the way she got handled that arc. I actually would have been fine if it had just been that she bombed the place in protest and feeling the Jedi had lost their way and become like the Sith (I mean, that's not fine but it makes a certain kind of sense) but then when they just turned it around and was like 'haha, she's actually a Sith/dark side user!' that just irritated me so much. Kind of similar to what they did with Pong Krell. People can do bad things without being literal Sith/dark side users. And while I'm on my rant about that arc I also kinda hate what they did with Ahsoka's character there because I think it would have been awesome if she had left the order in part because of what Barriss said and feeling similarly in her heart...just realizing she can't be a part of it any more, and that the order is getting corrupted (which, in a way, it was - the war was wrong, and using clones was wrong, and that was all Palpatine's design). But instead it was just her being mad that she felt she got treated unfairly when I don't even think, from a neutral perspective (not a protagonist centered morality perspective) they were THAT unfair to her. It just struck me as petulant, instead of principled.
Kanan's death will always be one of the saddest moments in star wars
I love the way y’all have been incorporating your sponsors into the videos. Makes me not want to skip them
God Kanan’s final moments were so wholesome and sad.
Considering Ryan expresses his dislike for Ezra everytime Rebels comes up I wonder if he'll explain his dislike a bit more deeply in a coming video.
Ahsoka and Obi-Wans’ reactions to finding out who Darth Vader really is & having to duel afterwards always break my soul. I’m glad Anakin resurrected himself later after Luke saves him.
Not just thw clone wars and the rebels, but almost the entire Star War Saga. All in under 30mins 😁
That Yoda and Sidious fight was a draw…not a loss lol Also Obi Wan was on Tatooihe for 16 years at the time he kills Maul…not 18
Dude you did a great job summarizing this! Thanks for helping me remember all that happened during Rebels!
this recap was amazing, have had this in my watch later for a while now and its finally time i start Ahsoka. btw ty for fast forwarding the original trilogy
George said the Jedi do not take revenge as you say. The original title of Return was Revenge of the Jedi but he changed it because of this.
Wow, you did an incredible amount of research for this. Well done! There's so much information, I'll have to watch it several times
couple things i wanna see, zeb back with the ghost crew and rex, i mean we're getting huang, lets get captain rex too
Wow what a great job you guys did there! I have seen all of these that's how I know. But for people who haven't had a chance to watch all of them this is a very good overview. Thanks Ryan and Doug 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastic breakdown. But, everyone should just go and binge The Clone Wars and Rebels. They are fantastic shows, so full of great back story and character growth. I honestly thing they are the best parts of the SW world. Ahsoka has the chance to be a fantastic show. Go into it fully ready by watching those shows. Truly worth it. 🤷♀️
I could listen to you guys break things down for hours
Need a Freddie Prince JR cameo in Ahsoka as a flashback or force ghost!
Thanks for your work in this video!
What an awesome job on summing up all Star Wars things up to that. Lovely. Thanks!
One of the best Recaps I have ever seen. Sums up Rebels so well.
Dude this video was amazingly well-thought out and put together!!! Incredible recap! I felt I was losing much of the story and was becoming confused over certain events or timelines. This cleared everything up perfectly. Awesome job man!!
Can’t wait to see the episode recaps, it’s always like a post credits scene
Amazing job summarizing all of this! Even having watched it all it was great to recap it!!
Thanks for covering this so well!
So appreciate your vids Ryan! Can’t wait for SC Ahsoka breakdowns and hot takes! 🙌🏼
Perfect work! I must watch Rebels now. Thanks Ryan and all those who help out with the content
You forgot about Reva Sevander, a Jedi Youngling that also survives order 66.
I am going to enjoy this first episode of Asoka so much more now. Thank you. Well done.
Thank you for this! One thing to note is the machine that was designed by Sabine doesn't destroy the Mandalorian beskar armor, but it actually superheats it so whoever wears it is vaporized, leaving the armor behind.
Absolutely perfect for someone like me who can’t stand animation. Have watched the whole Ahsoka series up to this point with no issues at all without having had to watch a single episode of Rebels. Thanks!
13:11 - Nice touch. Well played!
Awesome recap! Hit on every major point and every little detail a person should know.
I cried. 🥺😢😭 when Master jedi knight canon jarrus passed away to force .
Wow. It feels like I just went through all of Star Wars again. That said, pretty much all of it is applicable to the way things are developing. Well done honestly!
Great video. It's easy to forget that despite the various forms of media and different creative directors just how well the story all fits together to create something bigger than the individual pieces. It's enough to inspire my love of the franchise despite the damage of The Rise of Skywalker.
There is so much good world building in Star Wars shows. How come the last few interations have so little (Andor was a nice relief). It's all about flashy action now. Lets hope Ahsoka brings back some good storytelling.
Awesome breakdown! 👏🏽 Definitely gonna save this video. Favorite character in SW.I’m so excited to see Ahsoka. She’s a warrior and survivor of order 66. Relentless in achieving her goal. This series is gonna be lit!!🔥🥳
I feel like this will help people realize and understand how big this show is gonna be. It’s gonna have so many ties to previous shows and (major)characters and adding to their stories while also bringing in new concepts to star wars
We
Almost... Too many. There is no way a casual star wars movie fan (that didn't watch the kids cartoons in the 2000s then 2010s) is going to give a care about any of this. The fact that the story of "the dark saber" has been told... Means that casual fans (including those that weren't kids for episode 1) are never going to be given a story as to why we should care about it. It seems like there are almost 100 episodes about this cartoon lady... That is far too many for movie fans to care about... She should have been ditched and a new character created, like they do with the games. They should have put the kids TV shows into that weird "is this Canon" category that meant movie fans don't have to care about it.
Good recap. It's been awhile since I've watched the older shows
This was one of the best recaps I’ve ever seen, great job
Great job covering every angle that is needed to really understand Ahsoka and why she is looking for Admiral Thrawn. I will definitely be watching more of your content. I hit the bell, thanks for sharing all this information.
Thanks so much for creating this! I love Star Wars lore but never truly kept up with it and with the amount there is it's overwhelming.... Just can't make the time to catch up on all the different forms it takes and I struggled with Clone Wars TV series (it was ok just didn't engage me enough). This has been eye opening and so much help 😅
I so hope we see some flashbacks of Anakin and Ashoka during the clone wars. We desperately need to see that connection in Live Action
Ryan you outdid yourself on this one. Awesome recap of basically the whole main StarWars canon story!
Quality as always!
This is a crazily well put together recap thank you! Must have taken AGES.
Dude! What an excellent refresher! Really appreciate it.
Thanks for the recap, Ryan!
Thanks for a great summmary!
Wow!! Thank you so much Ryan for all that SW history. So good
Just the fact that someone could make sense of the messy SW storyline is something to be proud of 👏
I enjoyed the Ahsoka first episodes even though I had only seen her in the Mandalorian. I was able to piece a lot together with what the show provided, but this video fills in all of the gaps and answers my questions. Thank you!
You always do such a fantastic job
Thank you for this. As may the force be with you, always✌🏾
AMAZING work ScreenCrush... such an incredible video. Thanks so much for your work. Cant tell you thank you enough.
That was amazing!!! I loved every bit of it bro!!
Great recap and vid Ryan! As a die hard sw fan it helps sum everything up in an easy way, even when you've watched every bit of content. Those wilhelm screams inserted were also on point😂
So well done, Ryan!
Any questions?
Do you feel confident that this Star Wars show will perform well?
Why does Ashoka wear white at the end of Rebels? What's the significance?
Great video, thanks so much Ryan.
Thanks for the recap. I can't believe how much of the story I had forgotten.
Such a good recap, great pacing, funny, and depth. I'm ready for the Ahsoka!
I had seen bits a bits if an8mated series. I can't believe that was just 30 minutes it feels like I just binge watched an entire series. Awesome work
