  • I hope Maximum Bob is a mainstay on these videos from now on. He was the first bowlers name I remembered.

  • I was wondering who it was until I saw the approach, the high back swing and the release. It's Robert Smith, the one that I used to watch back in the days on TV. Wow, amazing how he can still bowl like he was a teenager! Lot of power!

  • Robert's explanations of what he is doing are so valuable and well articulated. Looking forward to more videos with him. I have thrown a lot of urethane over the decades, both Vintage and Modern urethane and have never had any urethane ball go into the left gutter when throwing up 5 board. I attribute that effect not to the ball, but to Robert's insane revs and heavy roll! And by "breaking in," note he was not wiping the ball, he was just letting oil build up into the cover to lubricate it and cut down on the friction potential. If he had cleaned the ball to get the oil off and moved back right, it would have gone back into the left gutter.

    • This is my next ball. I got an IQ78 a couple weeks ago. I moved 7 boards right in a game and a half as it got oil on it. Used it a couple days ago and was only one board left of my C300 White Dot. My purple was 5 boards left of the IQ.

  • Thank you Bob! You put into words what I have been trying to explain to people when I use urethane in league.

    @bng0072@bng0072Ай бұрын
  • wow man that is cool! Kept your normal type of release but articulated how you were going to make it work - moving left, taking speed off it, but still sending it directly to the friction quickly. I misunderstood when you said get to the friction quickly before you actually demonstrated it. I correlated "friction quickly" with increased speed, but you basically made your angle very steep (the friction quick part), and the slower speed was so it doesnt actually GO in the gutter with that type of move. My throw on the right side of the lane, especially with urethane, is a change in hand/wrist position alongside more speed. Basically trying to take shape out of my normal throw. I will have to keep this adjustment in mind > throw to friction earlier & slow it down.

  • Robert, I have the double X from Radical. The house that I shoot at is squarely. What I've found out after today is the first game I can throw my DNA pin down from around 17 and out to 8 and be ok. The second game goes to hell. Can not make Pocket and Carrie at all. Went to Double X last game and like you outside line two early. My trick which I saw a guy do in the mid 90's was to stand about 40 and throw 3rd arrow. This ball likes oil because it would go out a little and pop into the pocket. I am a senior(64) so I do have low ball speed. My game is still good though, my average is only 189 right now. The house has new owners so they have changed the shot. I shot 216, 157 & 220 for 593. Hoping to get to the low 200s. by season end. Oh yea, the question is why does this ball seem to like oil?
