Building The Ultimate Auto Slab Flattening Sled Part 1

Outgrew my small router sled and decided to build a larger version that I will eventually just be able to watch run on its own. This was started last year and I am finally getting around to building it. It's going slow but starting to come together. The size was determined by the max slab my sawmill can cut plus I wanted to keep it light enough to be moved around by 2 people. Next video I will put links to parts used if it works good. Just basically complicating a simple sled to try something different.

I really like how when you start a Project or a Build, you have already completely Engineered it from start to finish, and everything goes smoothly because you’ve thought everything through and avoided any potential issues. • Hi 👋, I have just noticed I think you’ve got the same VFD drive as I’ve got, I have a Kontour A1500 semi automatic wood lathe, The electrics in the cabinet failed big time so I brought a VFD for it but I do not have anything to run the copy and attachment at the moment for it I’m hoping to try and sort that out later this year as well, I am now going to watch part two of your construction of your router table. Very interesting territorial, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.

  • Beautiful project. Your workmanship is stellar. I built a similar flattening slab mill using 10" long linear rails although mine is manual and has a 4" dust port. Mine has a 3-1/2 hp router and I use 2" flattening bit. I make 1/16" passes. I can flatten a 4' wide x 9' long slab in about an hour each side depending on the number of passes. What a timesaver!

  • When i worked in a machine we had to shorten lead screws. We would make a sleve to go inside the housing to hold the ball bearings. Make sure it is long enough. Don't take the sleeve out until you screw it back on. Very nice build.

  • Hi 👋,, I am new to your work shop, You are obviously a very talented young man oops, 😂, Great territorial building a router sledge. It is something that I am interested in, hopefully to build something later this year, I have just had a look at some of your KZhead channels very impressed, Not sure whether you will see this as you were doing this 11 months ago, what size is your linear track, I have a MAFELL EC65 router which I am hoping to use, but not sure if I will buy a body only router, I am just thinking of using the bed as a flattening surface. As I don’t think I am capable of building a CNC router as I’m not very good with computers, But if you can give me some advice be very much appreciated, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE. 🎶🪚🍷👍

    • I could only find 2200 mm long tracks but they really can be any length you need. This was just playing with an idea to eventually make a version that can run down my sawmill tracks. I just wanted a dust free machine and a spindle works best for collecting the chips. KZhead makes the world seem small. Thanks for watching.
