  • I can totally relate to this. The one planner I keep going back to this year is my hobonichi A6. Maybe I should just listen to myself and stick with that instead of buying other stuff to try. The struggle is real.

  • I am so glad that you are talking about this. Planning is not about acquiring. You can do what you need to with a pad and pencil. The rest is what we choose to acquire because it makes us feel good, but sometimes that feeling doesn't last. Again, thank you for doing a video about your very personal, truthful feelings.

  • I feel every sentiment from the first few minutes of your video. Last year I purged over 200 planner covers. I still have 70 or 75 and I’m going to get that down to maybe 15-20 and be done. I think this past 17 months have been so incredibly challenging on everyone. We are all living in survival mode. Glad to see your video and hear your ideas.

    @planningwithjohn@planningwithjohn2 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, survival mode exactly. I need to stick with this. One brown, one black cover for whatever I’m in. It’s a struggle after getting caught up in all of the consumerism of it all, but what did I end up with? It’s just not worth it. I hope you get your collection down to where you want it.

    • Reading this makes me think about how when I discovered Chic sparrow this year in April, I went through buying so many journals and just selling them and buying more and more and only now I feel completely satisfied and feel as if I am completely done with buying anymore of them. It’s so enabling being part of the journaling community, how people support and encourage buying so many journals to the point where so many just sit and never be used, to the point where it is just overwhelming and so unrealistic. And to each their own, people can do that, but I just wish that I wasn’t pulled into it. I currently have some journals for sale, trying to keep my collection as minimal as possible, going through what truly works for me and understanding exactly how many journals I *need* instead of *want* and it is working really well for me. Journal peace for me is not buying more than I need and staying true to that 🍃

  • I am about a year and a half into pens, inks and journals. I see so much content and money wasted on trying to find the "perfect" setup. Frankly, I currently don't understand such nitpicking to the toon of hundreds of dollars and inviting so much stress into my already stressful life. I thought the idea of keeping life on track was to relieve the chaos. Thank you for showing the myriad of options. Now I need a Xanax! Much luck in finding bliss and keep sharing.

    • For a lot of us planners are also hobbies! Not just organization. It brings me joy trying out new covers and systems, and I chose to let some of my expendable income go there. We all have different guilty pleasures. For some it may be home decor, shoes, purses, clothes - for me and many others it’s planners (or all of the above if you are fortunate enough 😂). Changing and finding the perfect planner system is a stress I don’t mind having. But to each their own! As long as your style is working for you and improving your life that’s all that matters. 💜

  • I also have lost money on hobbies. I decided to do a mindset makeover about it. I got real about what I really use: pocket size portable things. As the years have gone on I realized anything bigger than pocket size is going to stay home and rarely get use. I double plan in Google calendar, because others need to know my schedule and I appreciate getting notifications (time to leave, reminders, e.t.c). I use weekly inserts from Yellow Paper House, though I'll switch to dailies if I've got a lot on my plate. I hear you on the colors though... the first time I ordered green inserts. Like, what? Why? I journal in moleskine cahier pocket size and use the tear away pages in the back as throw away pages (like what would go on sticky notes, grocery lists). As far as losing money goes... I have started getting real with myself about how I'm choosing to spend. I have one cover from Chic Sparrow and that'll have to do until I reach some financial goals. I have also stopped buying for my fantasy self. My fantasy self loves sticker kits and pretty planning. My real self doesn't see the point in the time investment to decorate. My fantasy self also spent a small fortune on bujo markers and stamps. My real self said no thanks, I'd rather go to brunch with friends than spend time drawing out pretty layouts. The are some great videos he on KZhead for identifying triggers for our fantasy selves and how to stop/curb shopping. I am glad you arrived at something that works for you!

I recently saw something that said (loosely quoted) that the more we watch home improvement shows the more unhappy we are with our homes, if you are on social media too much you become unhappy with your life and if you watch too much news you become dissatisfied with the world. • I go through phases of collecting things in excess. Shoes, handbags, scarves, art supplies…. During 2020, I hunted and gathered puzzles… wooden jigsaws and traditional ones. And now planners just caught my attention as an unexplored Accessory. I want to enjoy using a planner to organize my 2 week vacation in September …. But I instantly find myself wanting to order more planners, different sizes, more paper, when I haven’t really used the first one I bought. I don’t know where this instinct for wanderlust or gathering multiples instead of enjoying what I have…. But this video hit home for me big time to check my “more more more” desire. I had a week where I wanted to try a6, something I never have tried but the planner and cover are now in a box untried. I use a moleskine monthly book. The month lay out is 2 pages, lined pages in between months and also a section similar to hobonichi weeks where you can write something important for each day of year. I also have a field notes for notes and a lined moleskine for daily happenings and journaling. I like the chunky pocket tn look, but I know its not for everyone. • If the Moleskine planner didn't have the weekend days together I think I could go for it, probably in the larger size. But I just can't. I also like a two-page monthly calendar so I have room to actually write in it. I love the Weeks, too, because it does have those things, plus all the notes pages in back, and I've gone back and forth with it and a Muji planner this year because I like the Muji's wider pages. Why won't someone make the perfect planner for ME? A Hobonichi Weeks layout in a B6 size would be just right.

  • My newer planner, pen loops came loose, so cut them off. Extra layers made the elastic pen holder come apart. Went back to my older red compact Franklin Covey binder. Outside looks fine, inside the red vinyl is worn off in many places but some good duct tape (hopeful for gold or red, if not then silver) should cover that up. Older one has huge rings not available anymore. Had to fix one rivet with liquid metal epoxy (smells but working so far). Some inserts I make myself. Use planner for tracking mileage, as checkbook register, diary & scheduler. After 31yrs, last year I bought some small pretty floral stickers. Had stopped using older one so other board members wouldn't see the worn out inside. Covid - all board meetings cancelled.

  • I love the tabac leather but the personal size was way too big for me as I typically like Filofax compact personal rings. If I could get a ready made tabac but compact and slim I’d love it. I don’t wish to pay a ton of extra money to get that through customization as that doesn’t make sense to me to do that. I ended up selling mine.

      @samplans@samplans2 жыл бұрын
  • If you like your Malden and the only issue is the pen loop that is easily sorted. Very gently rub a little soap bubbles or liquid hand soap inside your pen loop. Start with a slimmer pen (personally I prefer slimmer pens) and gently push the pen inside the loop moving several times. The leather becomes much more maluable with the soap. Then move up to a thicker pen. And gently do the same so that you stretch the lather. Be mindful of the stitching but doing this, I have never had an issue and all my Malden pen loops are great!!! Obviously if it's a very thick pen you wish to use then no! But for most standard pens this definitely works! Give it try! Hope it helps X :)

  • I have used a Hobonichi weeks for 3 years now. I have it in a TN cover and I added a standard size travelers insert for notes. I use it as a wallet and live my life. I really don't understand the horrible waste of money and time stressing over something as simple as a planner. From the videos I've watched it borders on a mental illness. I’ve sold and got most of my money back before. Maybe you can sell and get some money - better to lose a little than the whole amount right? Yea - TRP is going away but not for the 2022 Hobonichi. They have the paper for those so they’ll still be TRP. They aren’t sure about 2023. Which is good news for TRP lovers.
