    • People who don't accept drag when done by LGBT+ ppl are okay with straight men doing it because when they do it it is under the subtext of making fun of the LGBT+ community or of women. It is understood that it is for comedic purposes in a way that is meant to ostracize and demean marginalized groups. When LGBT+ ppl do it, some straight ppl feel threatened because it feels to them as if the societal gender norms are being upended and not upheld. So, they feel worried that this display will change societal dynamics. Ultimately, fear of LGBT+ ppl is the fear of change toward a wider understanding of gender and sexuality that some people are not ready to accept.

Furthermore, there are also TRANS men and women who've done and do drag. Finally, you're correct that drag and trans are different (apples and oranges, really), but why does it matter? Are you saying that a cis person shouldn't do drag because they might be "accused" of being trans? Or that a trans person should be ready to accept the accusation of being a drag queen for putting on a dress??🤔

  • Drag has its roots firmly emplaced in history... Consider William Shakespere & the Bard - Drag began out of necessity, although that’s not to say its participants didn’t enjoy it. When Shakespearean theatre was shiny and new in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the stage wasn’t just a place of entertainment. It had strong links to the church and with that came rules that only men could tread the boards. If that play you were in featured a few female roles, then it was up to a couple of the men in the cast to dress as members of the opposite sex so the story didn’t suffer. Drag Balls are another thing entirely - Some might argue that William Dorsey Swann's dance parties in Washington, D.C. are the first concrete evidence we have of drag balls. Born enslaved in 1858 in Maryland, Swann began to host drag balls as early as 1882. More on the history of drag kzhead.info/sun/d7Gdp9GegXmwqmg/bejne.htmlsi=oqmwPdisA59gMNQy

    • @@dhsf5937Um...there have been plenty of women who do drag if you think about it in the right way. Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Tallulah Bankhead, Marline Dietrich, Madonna, Beyonce, etc. Even Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, to name a few. Drag is the art of illusion. These women are among many who've elevated that art to the highest levels. The sex of the illusionist is pretty irrelevent. And BTW, to accuse male drag queens of misogyny is pretty ridiculous when you realize most of them IDOLIZE and IMITATE the women who've come before them. They see Madonna, Mae West or Marilyn and think "God how classy, how gorgeous, how stylish....I wanna BE like HER!!" As to why drag kings aren't as popular, that's because handsome men rarely exude the kind of beauty and awe that gorgeous women do. We love flamboyance and color. If a man does those things (think Elton John), he becomes more akin to a drag QUEEN. Typical masculinity is kinda drab and boring compared to typical femininity, so it provides less opportunity to be drawn out and exaggerated, which is the whole point of drag. Think about it, drag kings aren't as popular due to prejudice against MEN, not women!😂😂😂

      @scibear9944@scibear994416 күн бұрын
    • @@scibear9944 I said that started as misogyny centuries ago,it's a fact. • You're not wrong with anything you've said, except how can you say that drag queens are "played" by "feminine" men when confronted with the gigantic mountain of butchness that is Latrice Royale??😂😂😂 Have you seen him out of drag? There's no way anyone would ever accuse him of being femme🤪 In fact, I love butch drag queens even more because the contrast between their personas is even more incredible if the drag is done well.

    • @yeahiprotest I agree, and while we may dominate the field, we don't own it exclusively. While asking for inclusivity, it's important that we give it also.

  • Religion, especially Christianity, has a lot to answer for. America is so far behind the rest of the developed world regarding religiosity that we look on in jaw dropping astonishment. This is what happens when a country encapsulates itself in an inward looking bubble, refusing to see that the world has moved on.

  • The best thing about drag is that there is something for everyone. I dont have any interest in getting into drag or any interest in makeup, but i love drag queens and kings. I love the comedy and the talent. My favorites are comedy queens like Trixie and Katya and Bianca. I also enjoy the lypsyncers and the dancers and the designers, but comedy is number one for me. It's a harmless, entertaining, and happy artform that brings people together. The only people making it dangerous are the bigots that refuse to see common sense.
