My old bedroom had gone unchanged for a decade. I decided it was time to change that. I removed the popcorn ceiling, installed a board and batten wall, floating shelves and so much more. I did this all on a tight budget.

Yeah I used to say stuff like that to in an effort to cover my insecurities after doing a traditionally “feminine” job (interior design in this case).

Part settling part general depression makes sense ounce dramas done it's normal to get a boost of motivation like being a broke student you generally go with what you parents want then you graduate and get your own money and the freedom from school and independence spikes creativity and desire for change

Amazing that materials were only about $250 (if you have the tools), but the real cost here is definitely the knowledge! Wiring, working with the supports for the wall, and most importantly, the design alone is art... transforming a bedroom completely with essentially just being creative with a couple planks of wood and some painting, amazing!
But for me, it would cost me a small fortune with the electrical and painting work.
And the muscle-power, which I just don't have any more.
Finally, a makeover video where the timelapse starts just seconds after the intro!

I loved the simplicity of it all. The makeover made it look elegant and sophisticated. I used to help my husband do these kind of things all the time. Love this makeover! I was iffy at first with the black wall but it turned out amazing! And I've been needing some type of solution for my shoe addiction. Your 2x6 floating shelves are perfect! I loved watching this video! It was super inspirational and gave me some ideas of what to do in my bedroom. The black accent wall really made a big impact in such a small room without making it look too dark. I also think that hanging the curtains higher was a good choice. It makes the room feel bigger. The bedding that your sister did for you looks phenomenal. It really tied the room together and gave it a sense of sophistication.

I’m currently redoing my childhood bedroom since I moved back in with my parents after graduating college (because COVID 😭) Even though I’m moving again soon, it’s still nice to have a space you love! Thanks for the inspo 🥰

Great job! Pretty good design for just stuff you grabbed from around the house! - I noticed in the video you asked for suggestions? I think you'd be great at explaining basic electrical stuff to the common homeowner (like how to change out a mounted lamp, etc).

Thanks for noting you tested for asbestos. That is a must before actually taking down and ruining popcorn ceilings.
I'm loving it, the way this room turned out! btw those lights looks great with the side stands, also the spark of that brown leather deck cushion in all blacks and whites is simply amazing.
Looks great! Another cheap option would be to paint those over nightstand lights copper,that will give another pop of color and still be cool.

Don't be fooled, ceiling fans can be extremely frustrating to install. Sometimes they can be pretty straight forward, but a lot of the time they can be quite tricky

Hi Liam, I'm so impressed by how much you managed to change in such a small budget. The "after" bedroom looks so crisp and fresh. If I may ask, where did you learn how to do all these things, the carpentry, all the things you did to the drywall and the electrical cables and the ceiling? I want to learn all of them!
The building trades aren't hard to do, u don't need much practice just learn the fundamentals. Carpentry is super easy when u know how to properly measure and cut and have the right power tools at your disposal. Electrical work is straight forward aslong as you understand how certain components work; here in Australia any household electrical wiring follows strict colour codes (Yours will too just hunt down some diagrams). Red positive, Black negative, brown/blue neutral, yellow+green main earth. Most things come with wiring diagrams so it's just transferring into screw terminals. Just have a go and apply yourself you will be surprised how easy it is. Beautiful thing is wood can be re cut, mud can be sanded and re applied the only thing u need to be cautious of is electrical.
Hey looks awesome good job. I love doing projects like this. This reminded me when I re did my room when I was a teenager and build my own headboard and that's when I got hooked on making stuff. Still learning a lot by trail and error but that's how you start.

You killed it. Personally, you had a great opportunity to turn the space where your drawer/chest went into a custom open air closet. Gotta hang those sport coats, blazers, and suits if you have any.
