Hi, friends!
I hope you’re doing well. This week’s video is a flip-through and reflection on my planner and journal system for Q1 (Jan-Feb 2024). This video is on the longer side 😳 because I wanted to share some extra context on why my system changed so much compared to last year. I’ll also flip through my hobonichi cousin for the first time (disclaimer, including a lot of sticky notes to cover up sensitive information) because it is an essential part of my entire system, and I don't think I've given it enough love on my channel before!
I hope you enjoy this longer video, and I am open to feedback if you would prefer to see the flip-throughs or reflections split up into separate videos in the future. I’m so curious to know how your planner and journal system have been going for you this year; please let me know in the comments below! Thanks for being here; I appreciate you! 💗

  • I love seeing all your planners 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Every time I see your Traveler's Notebooks I want to set one up!

    • Thank you so much, Danielle!! I do love my TNs a lot! I think they’re great for subject notebook collections. Likewise for wanting to try new covers whenever I see your pretty sojourner ones - and great timing bc I see you posted a video about your collection! I can’t wait to check it out! 📔😍

  • Great reflection. I love looking back to reflect on what works and what doesn’t. I also reflect on what I still need to keep track of and what o can let go, I’m always looking for ways to simplify so I can focus on the things that are most important to me at the time. Thank la for sharing! 💜

    • Thank you so much! I agree that simplifying things can give us space to focus on the most important things. I find a lot of comfort in updating / flipping through my notebooks (always have, but my tastes have gotten fancier 😅). Still, it’ll be interesting to see How the year progresses and if I still feel this enthusiastic about updating my planners / journals. Thanks again for being here - I appreciate you! 🥰

  • I'm totally going to try camomile tea with milk, it sounds good. I hope you're able to get your hobonichi leather cover cleaned up. I also wish the A6 size had a vertical weekly view but I kinda just use the daily pages for time blocking and supplement with google calendar, you have way more to keep track of than I do tho. my favorite planner in your system is the meal planning weeks, i'm glad it's working so well for you. i'm already excited to see what Q2 in your system looks like!

    • Thank you!! I am looking forward to reflecting on Q2 as well! I think the biggest changes will happen in Q3 or Q4, because I’ll (hopefully!) be finished school and my internship. I’m glad I’m not the only one who wishes for an A6 with a vertical weekly. I know the Common Planner offers a similar version in a B6 with undated daily pages. But, I don’t really want to get a new cover size, and I like the quirkiness of Hobonichi’s pages. I love how you use your A6, btw. It feels so clean, simple, and effective! Maybe when I have less to keep track of, it will work better for me. I don’t love the idea of trying to manage my schedule in more than one book, so I’d rather the Cousin or the A6/Original, and not both. I love that I’m already planning ahead to 2025 as if we didn’t just start 2024. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ Ps. I hope you enjoy the chamomile tea / milk combo! I thought it was strange at first, but I really grew to like it!

    • @@LittleCocoStudio i think it's going to be my daily planner, replacing the A6 hobonichi and the content planner. i'll probably still keep a daily journal or get the 5 year, and i'll probably get another mini planner for grocery lists.

  • Your poor cover! It really does add character, though. That's what I tell myself about my splotch on my Midori goat leather, anyway! 😂 Love this review and flip, I've been archiving my pages and I enjoy having the "company." Thanks for sharing!

    • Thank you! I did try a second (and third!) layer of saddle soap, and I think it’s a lost cause. The splotch is here to stay. Sigh. Where is your splotch on your Midori cover? I guess we have some pretty unique covers now! 😅 Glad to have your company for this review and flip! 🥰

  • Thanks for talking about your Hobonichi a5 cousin; it's one of those planners that I have always thought about but then overlooked when it came to buying one! How thick is the A5 cousin as compared to say a Leuchtturm1917? Last year I used a Hobonichi A6 but got frustrated with the tiny grid, the visual clutter of daily quotes taking away space from my notes (I end up writing over them but it's hard to read later), how smeary it gets / how long the paper takes to dry (you can't just open it, write down a new appointment or take note of a thought, then shut it and move on because you have to wait for the paper to dry) so this year I bought the Korean Winkia planner in B6 size (and though I love the vertical week layout and monthly layout and project management pages, the gray and muted deep pink ink on light cream "fountain pen friendly" paper but it's not as lovely as TMR... If only the paper were nicer... ) so I am thinking of buying the cousin next year but concerned about bulk... I need to run to various appointments with my planner so it needs to be quick and easy to take it out which the Winkia is (but B5 gives a little bit more space than A6 to fit things usefully in the monthly pages and of course having a vertical weekly view is a huge help and I don't miss the hobonichi quotes at all)... I guess the cousin has those vertical weeks but am afraid it will mean I have to tetris it around my lunchbox or have a thick brick in my bag whereas I can just barely slide my Winkia into my coat pocket so it is portable... But not the paper for showing sheening ink properties (the fp friendy means some coating to avoid feathering I think, not like TMR paper... ) The cousin printed colors doesn't look as distracting as I remembered... that orangey-red color for Sundays was something I remembered as too jarring/distracting but it looks okay in your video.

    • Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment! The Hobonichi cousin is thicker than the Leuchtturm 1979, and from what I remember of the two, is noticeably heavier. I'll try to show a quick comparison of the two in my next video! :) The Winkia planner sounds really cool! I looked at a few pics on their IG page, and I can see that the weekly layout does look similar. That's too bad that the paper isn't quite as good for showing the ink properties. You may already do this, but I find using EF/F nibs and blotting paper does help a lot with the smearing. I almost don't notice having to tuck the blotting paper between pages I've just written on. It just feels like I'm tucking in a bookmark into my book. Also, if using fountain pens isn't as important for you, then I believe the pen that comes with Hobonichi doesn't smear! As for the bulk, I agree the Cousin is kind of big. I kept mine "pen only" for the most part last year and found that it didn't bulk up by much throughout the year. I also normally travel with my laptop and backpack, so it's usually fine to carry it around that way. Having said that, I do find myself wanting to experiment with the A6 next year when I'm done with school. I'm hoping with less to plan/account for, I might be able to get away with the smaller book so I can carry it around in my purse!

  • Find a cool sticker, patch, any art item and put it right on the leather. Not something you'd normally do, but that spot is gonna haunt you if you keep looking at it. It happens to us all. We love it flawless, but it never stays that way. Good luck

    • Oh gosh, my video tomorrow is going to show you what I did with it next (possibly made it worse 🫣😅). You’re right, though, it never stays flawless, despite our best efforts. A sticker or patch is a good idea! Thank you!
