We've been using "to schlep" for ages in Serbian. It's used for "towing", as in "towing service" and I don't think we've got our own word for that. 🤣 And yes, it comes from German
Wowwww!!! I love that word!! So you use it the same way then?
@@papateachme yup. If you say to schlep, everyone will know what you're referring to
@aleksandarranelovic5577 nice! So I also speak Serbian then! 🙌
We use the verb in Swiss German as well. An older and quite heavy laptop is often referred to as a "schlepptop".
How to use that word ? Gimme some examples
I learnt a bunch of new words thanks to you!
Which was your favourite?
@@papateachme Definitely, "suss" and how a slight difference in spelling (sus) can make a huge difference. I also enjoyed discovering the old-fashioned meaning of "knackered" ;).
"Sus" is just shortening for "suspicious".
Nice and useful. Thank u ,Aly❤️
In Norwegian, we have the verb "å slepe" which means to drag something, like luggage, for example. And just like the English word came about, our variant was also borrowed from German so I instantly recognized it when it appeared in the video.
i've just skived thru this video, gonna lug it now till the end of my life )
Yes, i have. When i'm tired and i don't want to study or to go to School, i do that.
I'm Canadian the only way I've ever heard "schlep" being used is to describe feeling lazy and just schlepping around. "I'm just schlepping around the house in my bathrobe today." Maybe it's used because it describes us dragging our deadweight selves around... 😂 I've never heard of skive or bung! LOL
You can upload a video on ipa symbol pronunciation
I’ve never heard of skive 😅😅😅 but that’s not to say it’s not used in Australia. Wag is a common one, as in to wag school means to skip school 😝
You say WAG!? 😁 I prefer wag. I’m gonna steal it. I’m British. We steal things. 🧐🤨

First time I come across this video ! Es muy bueno !👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇷🇬🇧🇦🇷🇬🇧
It’s new ! ✌️😁
That was amazing 😮❤
Thanks for this useful lesson, Aly. Looks like the noun "luggage" went from the verb "to lug", didn't it? At least my guess should be partly correct 😉
Oooh!! Could be!!
@@papateachme By the way - great topic for one of the future live lessons - the origin of some words from other, older or foreign 🙂
I've never skived off English lessons at school :)
always thought holler was something british because of the song by spice girl "I wanna make you holler, holler and hear you scream my name...."
I skive off school with the guys to play pool. Is it ok? Or I shoud said the guys and I used to skive off schooll
In Germany we say *schleppen" to schlep something in german is "etwas zu schleppen"
Sounds so cool in German
I haven't skived off school or any working😅
Hi Aly. Sometimes, I use toss with the same meaning as bung as you have described. Is it a mistake or is it appropriate?
Yeah for sure but “toss” feels like it has more distance to the throw
❤❤
What about New Zealand?
👍
In bruh-zeelean porch-geese "Veneno" is also "Veneno" and "Peligro" is "Perigo" XD
I'm Japanese, have learning English. I found this movie and enjoyed it today! I try to write this comment. I decided to learn English from your movies now.
Welcome to my channel! I hope you enjoy studying here! 🤟😁 🇯🇵
I have been skiveing to learn English
"To skive" sounds pretty similar to italian "schivare", which is roughly equivalent to "to dodge"
Hello 🇮🇹
Oh, Esquivar !!! 🇪🇦
schleppen ist a German verb that means to carry somethin heavy a long way
It's funny, there is a nice word in Russian "schlepki" ( slippers), too.
I used to skive off work smoking doobies with my homies....nah, i don't have homies i was alone smoking my face off
I don't understand elevator.😋
✅
Indubitably I'll never say Holler 😂😂
Is "sus" contraction from suspetious?
Suspicious! And yes! ✌️
For me you is the best
I'm going to be really careful in how I phrase this. I've never seen the word "bung" used as a verb. However, there's an American word referring to a body part that starts with "bung." Please tell me that the two are unrelated, because I have a few follow-up questions if they are.
🥰💫💥💯💣👍
Hi im from iraq
Omg, Do you know Yiddish??🤣🤣
sussy baka
Oh my goodness, 😍 you're regarded as our English God which means that we the Africans gonna be praying to you as our English savior
Because of your prime minister you'll speak Indian soon 😂 For what should anybody learn the British English if the whole world speak the American one?
Haha Americans are what?
Skive off = playing hooky. USA only. Don't ask me why! Also, I have only heard it used for skipping a day or days of school.
