4K CABVIEW: Plow season is on with snow drifts on the mountain pass!
Finally the plow season is on with snow drifts on the mountain pass! For each year there is less snow on the mountain pass and therefore there is less chance of videos like "Extreme winter conditions on the mountain pass" ( • CABVIEW: EXTREME winte... ), but this year it looks like we're getting there! Finally!
We're going from sea level in Bergen over the mountain pass through Finse at 1222m above sea level. The highest point of the Bergen Line is in the Finse tunnel at 1237m above sea level. You can hear me honk like a monkey there.Finse is also the threshold for two weather systems and it’s usually here you’ll see the stark difference in the weather between western Norway and eastern Norway.I’ve added some photos to this video of the train at Mjølfjell and at Geilo. Mjølfjell and Geilo is considered the beginning and the end of the mountain pass.
And sorry about the whiteouts exiting the tunnels, it seems that the latest update to the camera has slowed it's exposure adjustment.

WOW! This is up there with 'Stormy Conditions'! The build up to the climax (no spoilers) , the pace builds up steadily. Must be amongst the best 'cab views' ever on YT!

Awesome!!
I wanted to make this video last as long as possible, so I watched it in bits and pieces all day. It seems like everytime you go through a long tunnel, the weather is completely different than when you entered the tunnel. I love all the new things we are getting to see thanks to you. The blue skies…oh they are beautiful. Thank you.
I had too. After the third white out, I started getting headaches 😳
Me too

OMG that SNOW on top !!! And fabulous views of the Train Engine at 3'34'00 ! Thank you RCG !!
Brilliant way to relax of a night by watching this peaceful journey through the scenery, many thanks for sharing it 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Wundervolle Führerstandsmitfahrt. Unglaublich beeindruckende Strecke und Landschaft. Vielen Dank für die tollen 4 Stunden. Allzeit gute Fahrt!
Thank you RCG!! I check in on Finse a couple times a day via their stationary webcam, so it's always wonderful to see your cab-eye view of Finse as well. Love your videos and looking forward to a nice sit-down to do this one justice. Thanks again!
Can't stay away from this RailCowGirl video
They are all masterpieces...
Wow, fantastic scenery in this! A little bit of everything! Great video! 👍💯
So nice to sit in my backyard in sunny 64 degrees fahrenheit in t-shirt and shorts watching this icy cold arctic blast of a storm beat down on your train. Amazing sights, as I would expect from an RCG Production. Cheers
Fabulous scenes travelling with you! Thank you!! RCG
Glad you enjoyed it
This is one of my favorite addictions.
Thanks a lot!
Amazing, to see, the train making its way through harsh winter conditions. Heavy snow drifts, snow, piling up on the tracks; the locomotive wiping it away. It surely demands a lot from you, watching the train making its way through it. I really love to see this. Again, it's amazing to watch this video. Thank you very much . I look forward to more of this kind. 😀😀 Greetings from The Netherlands. PS: The white-outs?? I take them for granted. The scenery makes a whole lot. 😉 And after the snow drifts, there is sunshine. How the weather can change. By the way, my brother is also a train driver for a private company in The Netherlands, driving passenger trains.
Thank you RailCowGirl for another fantastic video from the land of my dreams: Norway! Keep up the good work!
Excellent video, thank goodness we have such wonderful footage of train to see us through these difficult time.
In the 1970s when I was living in Bergen some friends and I took a ski tur trip. We took this train to Finse, see at about 2:53 in this video. It was a day very much like the one shown here. We hung out at the sommarhotel for a couple of hours with no let up in the storm. Having no money we went out, strapped our skis on and left following the line of poles stuck in the snow, visibility less than 10 meters. Got "lost" between 2 poles and were out in the trackless Hardangervidda without any reference point. Finally stumbled across a large boulder and put our tent up in its lee. It mostly stayed up after we built two large snow walls sheltering it somewhat. Quite the adventure!
Thanks for sharing.
I love your videos! Especially the 4K trips in the snow. And the ones where the tracks are completely covered. And the crazy long tunnels. I keep your videos on while I'm working from home. Thanks for making these.
From a Sun scorched Australian Summer, this is mind numbingly Beautiful. 🇦🇺
Indeed it is
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow - the descent from Tunga into Haugastøl was stunningly beautiful! And that pink-tinted mist hanging in front of the mountains after you passed the Haugastøl station!
Amazing train journey 🚞❄️❤️🇳🇴
Thanks for watching
Very enjoyable as ever. It looked a bit demanding driving at the top of the mountain pass and the difference in the weather between one side of Tunga and the other was amazing. The quality of the video and still photographs was really impressive.
You can tell these machines come from Vietnam
Some amazing views from. The cab of your train. Cool.🙂
A thing of beauty. Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you so...very...very...much for the presentation.
You are very welcome, thanks for watching!
Interesting seeing the loading of the container on your train. I love the weather changes. Great video as usual.
What an amazing video this is! It's both fascinating and scary at the same time. Really liked the winter wonderland at 2/3 of the video, but I'm also glad it's NOT my job to run this train. Thanks for this interesting and enjoyable experience RailCowGirl.
Thank you for watching! Glad you liked it!
Love your videos! Thanks for taking us along on your routes!
So glad you like them ❤️
thank you for the beautiful shot of your locomotive and the substation that drops the three phase high voltage supply down to single phase high voltage for the over head cat supply for your train. it is very cool how the rail road just did what it does best, drill and blast two big tunnels right in to the rock to make a large protected space for the step down transformers and oil circuit breakers . i guess your rail road has a power director to monitor and control the sub stations remotely like our rail road has.
Now this was a fun ride RCG. This weather reminds me of driving heavy trucks through the northeast. Snow one min. Sun the next. So yeah my heart is there for sure. Retired now and no do not miss it. Untill next time RCG be safe, stay safe.
Good Morning RCG, from America! 🇺🇲🇳🇴 Stay safe, stay well!
You too :)
This is so ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I also like that you took a few outside shots while waiting for the passing train. And then the changeover from snowy hell into sunshine - WOW!!! I enjoyed every single minute of that trip and I did not speed it up this time. It's a wonder that the line could even be kept free in this weather. Congrats and excellent work!!
Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for your video, let me know the world of snow and ice, because in my hometown of Guangzhou, China, I have never seen a scene of snow, I wish you a happy work! Keep sharing more beautiful things and things in the world, thank you!
El vídeo es una maravilla, como he disfrutado. Enhorabuena desde Madrid
Thank you very much!
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore,.not like they did back in 1954, still get a tear in my eye when I hear an old train in the night.
Yeah, we do! Come to Norway and see for yourself!
They still do here in the US.
Some things were not supposed to change over the years. I’m sad to hear that has changed. May love and joy find out hearts …. May we stay forever young.
Here in the U.S. they do it all the time!
Very nice touch with the exterior snapshots and video. I really enjoy your videos. Have been to Geilo a couple of weeks ago. Nice to see again from the a train drivers seat.
Great views, calming white noise and just a fantastic channel
You do fantastic work thanks
Just what I expected, another superb video, thank you and stay safe
Thanks a lot!
Stunning. Beautiful. Superbly done - a poetic and wonderous trip through an exquisite part of Norway - a place with many exquisite parts. While I love the mountains where I grew up in the American Pacific Northwest (Olympics and Cascades), the vicarious travels via your videos leave me enchanted in a singularly unique way. Seeing a mountain emerge from the mists (left side of the frame at about 2:57, followed shortly by a sunlit mountain in the distance) is sublime. I spoke with one of my colleagues about your videos and mentioned that I'd like to go to a place in the Norwegian mountains to work on current writing projects (Flåm would be nice - albeit probably wishful thinking). He is supportive, claiming (falsely, I believe) that he's been trying to get me out of town for some time. In any event, thank you for the lovely gifts. Press on.
You should absolutely go. Norway is stunningly beautiful, but beware of food costs. Due to heavy import and long road transport food is expensive in Norway
Thanks for sharing, hope you're able to visit Norway sometime :)
This is some smooth rails. they have excellent maintenance. And those electric engines are mighty quite.
Thanks a lot :D
@RailCowGirl Nice Video. It's Nice Seeing Norway From Locomotive Cabs, Especially With The Scenery And Dramatic Views Going From No Snow, To Snow And Then Some Snow. Keep Up The Great Work!!!
Thank you so much! I enjoyed watching it tremendously. I've become addicted to watching the posts on your channel. I'm eagerly awaiting the next upload.
Thank you so much!
Wow. I love all the mountain railway infrastructure! All the tunnels make the journey feel quite exciting and a testimony to just how vulnerable the track can be in the mountain conditions and weather. It makes me quite nervous seeing the train plough through snow and thus the view out of the cab being just white. I guess the plough does its job and the weight of the train on the tracks ensures its stays on course. Question: If a train wheel runs over snow, does that snow turn to ice or simply melt away due to friction or some other phenomenon associated with the extreme pressure?
Oh wow! Have just finished the full nearly 4 hours from woe to go and loved every minute. Especially the super snow around Finse - goodness!!! It seems amazing the trains handle those conditions with such aplomb. Thanks again as always! (And now from someone's comment I've discovered the Finse live cam so am happy to watch and wonder if it's you coming through at the helm of the train!) Thanks thanks thanks 👍👍👍
So glad you enjoyed it! ❤️❤️❤️
@@RailCowGirl Is this the trip that you had to camp out for 5 days? I am so very glad you are well!
Beautiful
Thank you
Thank you very much for the video. I absolutely loved it and enjoyed it very much.
Thank you so much!
I am stunned RCG! I agree with others here that this is among the best (if not THE BEST) cabride i have ever seen on YT, and trust me; I have seen MANY!! Keep up the good work!
Wow, thanks! ❤️❤️❤️🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for these videos, it's wonderful to see the country my great grandma and ancestors were from. I am half Norwegian with main of the family from Kragero Telemark area.
Ooooh Nice! :D Hopefully I will be running the South Line again in the near future, then I'll be running through Telemark :)
Thank you for the fine photos of your locomotive and consist while waiting on track 2
Thank you, glad you liked it! :D
One word: Fantastic! Thank you for sharing with us. Without a doubt, the Bergen Line is one of the most beautiful and spectacular railway line in the world. But there is another - and in my opinion - very unterrated line in Norway. The "Sørlandet Line to Kristiansand and Stavanger. And you mentioned in another comment, that maybe one day you will visit Telemark. I guess as a train driver? 😉 And that gives me hope, you can bring us this part of Norway to youtube too. Of course, that would just be a great bonus because your channel is also the best without it. 🙂
Thank you for the ride, from start to finish.. Be well. Till the next one..
Thank you!
A glide through white is nice with music - Terry Riley’s “In ‘C’”. I watch with pieces by Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Brian Eno, “Discreet Music” as ‘shut in therapy’. Thank you very much! I rode this route decades ago - after having ridden the other way by bicycle…. In June.
Thanks for watching, glad you like it!
The engine drivers of the Bergen Railway deserve a lot of respect !!!
Thank you so much!
I'm only watching in 1080p, but I feel as if I'm standing outside on the front of the locomotive and riding! Another all time great!
🇧🇷 BRAZIL PRESENT 🇧🇷 I LOVE IT 🇧🇷
Wow, another awesome video, Thank You. Also, It looks like more & more stations are becoming wheelchair accessible, that's a great thing btw. I love the snow sheds, tunnels not so much , but also I've gotten into looking for the signs & enjoy looking fornthe little crossings where you honk (before 10pm) Hugs & I hope you are doing great!
Thank you very much!
Thank you. I have run out of superlatives. Superb, Magnificent, Unbelievable, Most Wonderful.
Love your videos! It was cool seeing someone filming you as you came through Finse.
Thank you so much!
Nice update Tony...hate to have the pigs escape. :)
Thanks for another awesome video, please keep them coming. You and Trainthor make some amazing videos in this beautiful and rugged country but what has happend to Trainthor's youtube channel, all his videos are gone. Hope everything is ok.
Thank you so much!
Enda en fantastisk togtur ❤👍
Tusen takk :D
Video was very relaxing. Very beautiful country as well.
Thank you very much!
Winter wonder land 🙂 Hope you were out driving in the storm for the next episode.
Fabulous Video RCG and to much snow in Finse right now.
Wow! no trains parked at Voss, that unusual.
Very nice ride!
Another great ride. You guys certainly know how to handle snow -- lots of practice, I guess. I was surprised to see in some old footage from Finse that rotary ploughs were in use 100 years ago (well 99 anyway). I was sorry to see that the old goods loading shed just outside Trengereid has been demolished.
Thanks for watching :)
Wow! 😱 The scenic views are amazing 😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩. 👌
It really is!
as always a very good vdeo in a fantastic country
Thank you very much!
We have followed RAILCOWGIRL for several years, amazing videos of her home country at its best. Thank you for the enjoyment you have presented for us. At one time we played (worked in the big snows), memories, just memories now. 👍👍👍. 6-15-2023
Why are they just memories? :)
Spectacular winter trip
Thank you!
I like it. Another perfect ride. ❄👍
Thanks a lot!
Soooooo beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Thank you for the video! ☺👍♥
Thank you!
Well, glad to hear that Bitching Betty sounds like she is in good health. It is going to take me awhile to get used to just blasting straight thru Voss. Hey, aren't we supposed to stop here?
It feels kind of weird, but also pretty great! LOL.
@@RailCowGirl I've never been able to comprehend what she says. Ompa? -- Like: Don't forget to put on some ompa-ompa music like it's afterski in Ischgl. Compared to other trains and situations, I believe it is a heads-up for automatic brake control being activated, but that's not even a qualified guess. And what that should have in common with Apres-ski in Austria is anyones guess.
@@rhkavli I think she says "sifa" which I believe is a driver vigilance device. I might be wrong though!
its beautiful to obsaerve how the over head electrical line goes zig zag when in a tunnel. it does everywhere but herei it is really visible. oh for those who donbt know its so that the graphite connectors in the pantograph gets uniformly connected and does not get worn down in one line.
I see that most cabview videos use a GoPro and suddenly here a BlackMagic Pocket 6k with a cinema lens, just when I thought I've seen everything. I wish I had such gear for my video work :) Keep up the great content!
It all started with a GoPro 4 😂 and all the way up to 8, and I decided: «let’s go PRO» ;)
Except for the white out at the end of every tunnel 🥴🤭🤭🤭🤭
@@richardscathouse this is a semi-proffesional camera which actually has some drawbacks when used as a camera for cabview, when you don't have time for changing ISO/f.stops manually
Another excellent video!!
Thank you! :D
WOW what a trip. I was going to say i'm suffering from snow blindness and tunnel vision, but decided not too🤣
LOL!
Oh, man, did I ever pick the wrong career!! I just looked up what a train locomotive driver makes in Canada - FAR more than I expected! RCG, you are in the right place at the right time! Enjoy your career! :-0
Thanks! The salary depends on many variables.
RailCowGirl love your videos!
Thank you!
Another exciting video from RCG! Thanks so much for all your work posting videos and setting up your website. Wow! It really gets nasty on the mountain! Is it fun to play "snow plow"? Thanks again. Please stay safe. 😷
I freaking love it! :)
Great vid💜!
Thanks a lot!
In bed with Covid watching some of this and feeling nice and comforted even though my body is feeling horrible
I hope that you are feeling better by now. Sorry to hear.
@@RailCowGirl yes I'm good ta x
I love this channel. The horn blowing seems random to me but i am sure there are procedures for this. 👍🏼
Not random at all: = General warning of apporaching train = leve crossing (without full gates, lights and sound) = Halt = Halt and level crossing at the same place
@@RailCowGirl thanks!
@@wannabetrucker7475 If you watch for the level crossing sign she lists above, then around 15 to 20 seconds later you can often see the crossing. Many of them are lanes between two fields and can be hard to see in the snow, though in a few cases in this video you can spot footprints in the snow going across the tracks.
Great trip after three seasons! With the transition to the next weight category, the quality of shooting only grows! I wish you the best, HeavyRCG! Thank you!
Thanks.
Thank you very much i love it
Thank you, that's awesome!!
As a train driver, I really appreciate your work in this conditions. Congratulations 👏. Nice video, nice landscapes! Greetings from a warmer climate 😅
Thank you very much!
Wow that is a lot of snow drive safely in the snowstorm and stay safe! ❄️ 🥶
Thank you so much!
If I ever visit Norway, you've taught me to a) Come in summer and b) sightsee the mountains on the rail
Woohoo! you know it! :D
Excellent Video! Big-LIKE!!! 👍
That was and excellent cab ride... I liked at the end where you showed the whole train that you had been operating leaving AL...:):):)
Thank you, glad you liked it :D
it's so cool
Nice finish - blue/cuan sky.
make that cyan sky. and probably really cold outside

WAHOO!! It took me a few days to get all the way through it. But, it was a fun ride! Well done.... :)
Thank you so much!
wow such great footage...thumbs up!!
Thank you so much!
Have not started to watch the video yet, but I have been looking in on the Finse cam and they really have a lot of snow up there. Looking forward to your passing it to see how it looks from your cab.
This video was recorded before the weather went completely crazy, so there isn't THAT much snow in the video, but there is enough. LOL :D
