You're never getting that Jeep back from Eva.
My thoughts exactly 😁
Yep, we all know that this will not be a running around and fetching parts car.... It'll be wife's cruisin' car.

That mushroomed driver is for driving metal line "U" fence posts.
Right, those green ones used for 2X4 wire fence

Exactly! We have something similar we use as a paperweight back at where I work even down here in strailia.

Matt & Eva, you both did a bang up job on getting the old Jeep running! I cannot wait to see the Jeep steam cleaned, and all of the services completed! Well done, Matt and Wife!
the odd metal thing is probably a driver head for U type fence posts. By the way Matt, you are very fortunate to have such a lovely assistant willing to dive in and help!!! Congratulations!!!

You means Eva’s cute jeep project. Happy wife happy life
We need a jeep and leaf blower update. I understand that you are probably busy with the new shop build, but I can't wait to see how that is coming along. I like to see your wife help. Your videos are very informative and entertaining. I have never worked on a diesel engine, but from watching you, I think I would have a pretty good chance at getting 1 to run.
It is nice to see your wife taking an interest in your projects.
I think the phrase “ yes, that’s my wife’s blue Jeep “ is something you will be saying VERY often!! Start practicing now! LOL!!
I think you’re right😜

You better let the wife have it. That will get many project credits in your happy wife account. All you will have to do when you drag home Christine's older cousin in the future is look over and say... " Boy that sure is a pretty blue jeep". You have to know there is something in it for them. That works. Sometimes. LOL! Terry from South Carolina
You could see it on her face. The wife’s new.
Please tell your wife, there is almost nothing as beautiful as taking something old, broken, used, unloved and forgotten and then to take that and fix it and give it life again. Thats why we all come here, and im glad she can be part of that with you.

That first item sits on top of a corrugated fence/sign post and you can hammer it without damaging the top of the post. Likely for fence posts as you mention the rest of the stuff in use is for fences in that jeep!
Yep, for driving T-posts

My late next door neighbor's son has one just like it that my neighbor bought him for his first car a half century ago. He just got done overhauling it. As his sister inherited the house when mom and dad died, and now lives next door, he's up here with that old jeep all the time. He absolutely loves that thing. One taillight, no turn signals (never did have), rattles and clanks and bangs, but he is having a blast with it. I think I'd have to turn a leaf blower on that thing first, and get all the mouse mess out of it.
I love how Matt talks to the camera like we're standing there. Its like Dora the explorer for car guys. Plus, I don't know how anyone feels but that excitement is contagious. When you're watching a KZhead vid and are just as excited as the dude making the video.. that's good entertainment!

YES
It could probably use a roof too
I love how she went "Whee" when behind the wheel.
The object you found (the steel hockey puck) is for driving steel fence posts into the ground. It fits over the post top and then you slip a fencepost driver pipe over the top for extra weight. Its purpose is to protect the top of the post from mushing up and distorting when pounding the post in. Without its use, the post top can get so mushed up (upon re-use) that a post pounder will not slip over the post top any more. Pete from Prescott
That object with the mushroomed head is definitely for driving fence fence posts into the ground. They're usually green and they have Metal tabs that are punched into the face of the fence post which is why the kind of V-shaped Is with the broad face
You should've gotten the 8N. Never hurts to have more tractors
Yep the 8N with a loader is worth more than the Jeep in that condition.
The 8N was the very first tractor I drove. I was 13 at the time. When I turned 16 and got my license, I got to mow the sides of the roads in my part of town with the sickle bar. Learned how to replace broken cutting teeth with the tools and parts I carried. Had so much fun I would have done it for free. How did I survive the 60's / 70's? Especially considering I rode on hay wagons, back of pickup trucks, and drank water from a garden hose. YIKES!

Too many projects means you need a bigger shop.

Don’t ever feel a video is too long cause we love watching them! For me, I like the abandoned Church and all the non running things you get running! Good to see your wife helping you too!
A little late on watching this but I can identify (sort of). In 1978 I bought a running 1951 M38A1. That's the military version of the CJ5 (way before the CJ5). I brought it home and pulled the 4 cylinder engine. I bought a running Buick V6 and put in it. Then, I painted it, bought a new top, and ran the heck out of it for years. I loved that Jeep! Good luck with yours. I'd put that diesel in it!
My Dad ordered and bought a 1964 Kaiser/Willys CJ5 same color as this one. I was six years old. I bought it from him in 1977 for $400. Over the years that we owned it, the F Head, Hurricane 4 was rebuilt three times that I can remember. That Jeep could climb like a goat. AWESOME memories...
That 8-N here in Chile in the condition you found it would sell for $7,000. Tractors here are crazy expensive. Nice Jeep find. Jim in Chile
that jeep running with good tires brakes clutch is at least 10k
Even on west coast of US that tractor was $1500, more if you parted it.
impressed your wife likes this project looks like she is a good helper - commented in a previous video of her helping remove the truck cab - please get her safety equipment gloves glasses etc for her when she is helping you - made me cringe when she was under the jeep helping you with the starter without any safety glasses!!!!!!!!
Very cool find!! Always good when your wife is on board and even better helping! Super cool CJ5, revive it from the 💀 dead!!! We are rooting for ya!!!
Also at 40.00 minutes that flutterbye is definitely a good omen!
From an obsessive restorer, how lucky you are to have found an 'original' intact vehicle. I would have removed each part, cleaned, repaired and painted and put aside ready for rebuild. When it comes to the motor, same applies. I get a lot of pleasure out of full resto, (not necessarily to showroom) Will be watching from Australia with great interest.
NO, this one s a survivor, leave it as is as much as possible.
Love the Jeep. I hate to see that old 8n get scrapped though
I agree and it had a loader too
Somebody call Marty T

Matt: Eva found a "Tee-Post Topper. It fits on top of a Tee post/fence post so you can drive it in without actually damaging the top of the fence post. whilst bashing it into the ground with a sledge hammer. Great new find !
Yes, except that it is for road sign posts, not T fence posts.
Obvious not tpost it is for fence post
Called u channel post for signs or fence
It's for the older style metal posts, they were not the T style we have today. We had several hundred of them on our place in Arkansas.

Warms my heart to see Eva take an interest! She’s a good little helper! Can you try dragging (with good tyres) and letting the drivetrain assist in turning the engine over? I also have had great luck in preserving projects by mixing diesel and ATF 50/50 and spraying EVERYTHING! Seats, glass everything.
KZheadr "Marty T" is a guy in New Zealand who resurrects mostly old tractors and such. He does the spray with diesel. Apparently that used to be pretty standard practice for farm equipment. Derek at "Vice Grip Garage" has a mixture he calls "Shine Juice" that is mostly linseed oil, if I remember correctly, that he swears buy for preserving old finish and preventing rust spread. Vice Grip Garage does mostly old cars and pickups, but occasionally a tractor.
@@MikeDeAngelo yes. Know Marty’s channel very well. Been following him for some time. Thanks for the info.
My first car was a 1974 Datsun 1200. My parents got two of them for 600.00. I got one. My sister got one. My first purchase was the repair manual. Good thing too. My sister kept blowing head gaskets because she didn't know that you couldn't continue to drive when the temp needle reached the red line. I got it down to 15 minutes to change a head gaskets. 45 minutes with wrenches, 15 with air tools. I also learned about helicoils. Ya know that if you turn a head bolt clockwise with a big enough wrench, they will loosen up. ah. yeah. By stripping out the threads. Hence the experience with helicoils. One of the backyard mechanic techniques I learned was called the 30 second tune up. You rev up the engine, and drizzle water down the intake. The engine will run slower so you press the accelerator harder. This exploding water will steam clean the pistons, spark plugs and rings. As soon as you stop drizzling water you let off the throttle. You don't want to over rev the engine. You also don't want to pour the water in to fast or you risk blowing up the engine. lol. Then you stop the engine, swap the number 1 and 4 spark plug wires, and start the engine. (apposing cylinders on a 4 cylinder) It will run real rough, but will backfire a whole lot and blow all the crap out of the carburetor jets. You only need to run the engine for 30 seconds. Swap the wires back and your off and running again. lol. I also learned 3 ways to set the timing. (distributor). 1. Use a timing light. That doesn't work very well with a stretched timing chain. 2. Hook up a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold, the vacuum advance line from the distributor is a good place to place the gauge. Then advance/retard the distributor for max vacuum and minimal bounce of the needle. 3. Advance the timing and pump the throttle, till the engine does not hesitate. Then Lug out the engine, 4th gear at 10mph with full throttle typically works good. If the engine pings, retard the timing a slight bit, tighten down the distributor and your good to go. Method 3 is the simplest and works the best. I am older and wiser now. I love your videos. Great stuff and never boring. I learn new stuff all the time from them. Keep doing what you are doing.
Matt: When you get the little Jeep running well and road worthy, please install a roll bar! I don't want nuthin to happen to you or Miss Eva in the event of a roll over. And yes, I'd like to see you try to knock out the dents as best you can. Congrats on your latest acquisition!

ROFLMAO!
Matt - I looked through the comments, but I didn't see that anyone had an explanation for the item you asked about at 25:06 - It's a device for pounding steel fence posts into the ground! The underside [not the part that's mushroomed] fits over the top of a steel fence post, then you hammer it into the ground using an 8 Lb. sledge hammer. A very useful find! I've never seen one like it. If you ever find it necessary to put in a barbed wire fence, you will be glad to have this little gem!
Being a Jeep guy. This is going to be an awesome series. I loved this video!!!
Dennis Collins would pay top dollar for this he just loves these thing's.
That looks like a post driver. I've usually seen posts like that used with in panel fences or with wide boards to simulate a wooden post.
Looks like to me it goes on top of those channel iron fence posts to drive them in.
It's for U posts. There are two types of steel fence posts. T posts and U posts which are named for their cross section looking at the end of the posts.
This makes the most sense, and they did say the jeep was used on a cattle farm. looks exactly like the right shape for those wire fence posts.
I have a couple OLD U posts from way back. That would fit right on them. They may pre-date the T post of today.
@@bluegrallis They still sell both style of posts today. I recall seeing both styles on my grandparent's farm in the 1950s.
The Mrs is gonna love her new sorta kinda new ride. When she crawled under it and actually turned a wrench that shows me you done lost.
25:23 that is a sign post pounder... or fence post. the metal fence posts that you hang barbed wire on, that is the shape of the pole you drive into the ground.
