  • Excellent work! As a tech nerd and audio engineer, I'd highly recommend the newer "Tesla style" head units with UIS (or equivalent) chipsets. Avoid the old PX6 units. They are much faster, but also offer digital audio outs, which allows proper DSP and compliment of amps to suit audio upgrades. They should also receive more support for longer as they aren't outdated like the old PX6 / Rockchip based units. Anyway, excellent videos! You sold me on the Redarc Redvision. I was going to do a DIY thing with an Auxbeam Switchpros knockoff, but by the time I factor in a DC to DC charger, MPPT, shore power option, time and hassle of wiring these all up and making them work together, combined with less features (no external triggers, water level and temp monitors, other cool features on the Redarc), AND the fact that the Redarc will almost certainly last much longer and be more reliable than the aforementioned, the Redarc really makes the most sense. I'm a cheap, cheap, penny pinching sonofabitch, but I've done enough of this DIY stuff with cheapo junk to know that sometimes (often?) the cheapest option is the most expensive. Thanks again for the great videos!

  • On the FTM-400XDR the radio is capable of being programmed via a laptop and speeds things up quite well if you want to add in multiple frequencies. If you are only adding one though then thru the head unit is just as fast. Great radio pic though the 400 rocks.

  • At 12:30, please add a "Sunglasses Recommend" warning. Great video. As an ex-sailboat cruiser with a dual 350 AH banks (2 x 6v each), I am really surprised a single 100 AH battery get the job done. But we had a 3/4 hp motor to pull down 2 big cold plates in the freezer/frig. Plus, this was in the 90's before LEDs really changed the DC landscape. In a couple years I'll be land cruising :)

  • Good stuff , did you change out the alternator to a higher amp one ? or do you supplement that with solar ? I have 4Runner but it is mostly stock and since I don't do a lot of things that use power since I don't make videos but I do have a 54L Kalamera compressor fridge that does eat power when in hot places like last summer in south Texas . I will be adding some ground lighting like what you have for camp . I have a few different types of lanterns all USB rechargeable and my favorite ones are the bug zapper lights that are really small but work pretty darn good but adding lights under the 4Runner will make pulling into camp at night way better .

    @syntrax-og@syntrax-og2 жыл бұрын
    • The Jackery will work fine for a few days of use but needs a system of recharging after that. The system Kevin has installed here is way at the upper end of cost and need in my opinion. The advantages he gets is a system that recharges through solar or through the vehicles alternator. Other systems are available. I suggest looking into Will Prowse’s YT channel. Dude knows his stuff and isn’t beholden to a brand.

Why couldn’t you just buy a Bluetti Jackery type solar generator at a fraction of that charging the same way (vehicle) and run all the stuff off of that? Is it an amp hour situation or what?
