I can't be the only one that can just smell that freshly turned dirt, right? 🤠
😂👍
I can relate 😊
Why do Americans ( even farmers, who should know better ) refer to soil as dirt ? Dirt means filth, waste, something nasty and useless. Soil might make you dirty but it is NOT dirt
It looks like great soil for sure!
That was a satisfying 10-20 minutes Thank you
I can smell the dirt and feel it between my bare toes. Makes me dream of home after being gone these 50 years. I can even hear mom calling us to dinner. Thank you, sir, for taking me back in time.
Great memories. Thank you for sharing.
Designed and Manufactured with Ingenuity is what it said on my DMI plow. The hitch on mine lacked 'Integrity' so the local welding shop/ part time farmer rebuilt it to withstand 300 hp (5 bottom) No reason to have to fix things more than once was his motto.
We pulled a DMI 12 bottom with our 300hp or so 8550. What we had they called "over engineered," it was huge, really overly heavy duty. It was a site to behold. Hard to imagine something didn't go wrong during production of yours for a hitch of all things to need welding. That must have been a big job
@@heatmoon 8-18s was a good match for our 8650 in our soils. There were a lot of older (white) small ones that the front end ripped out, center beam was butted up against a much thicker flat plate and welded on.The hitch offset and pulling from below not hard to see why some failed. The welding shop had just finished doing another one before mine. Had a 4440 on it when it let go. Flat steel where 2 large angled pieces tying it together made it much stronger.
Very well designed plow crab streering. Turning distance in design from start, great designer.
Long way from the 2x16 I started with and an H international
DMI had the plow game down. That’s a beautiful plow!
Keep 'em comin' ! Love the Big Horsepower, BIG TRACTOR videos!
Thank you for watching. This was a fun day in the field.
Grew up ploughing fields and sowing wheat with a Case 930 loved the smell of fresh ploughed dirt and diesel.Thank you for the video and the memories
Very nice. I like the 30 series Case tractors. I grew up watching a Case 2470 plowing. I miss the days of seeing plowing.
Thanks for sharing the video Jason. That's a huge plow. I still like to plow and believe it is still a good way to farm.
I remember when DMI tested this plow in a field in Washington.IL, I was in grade school when they ran it.
Very very cool. We’re they testing it on the Steiger Tiger III?
I think so, I was focused on that plow!@@bigtractorpower
I love the smell of freshly plowed dirt.
I grew up farming in the 70's and would'nt even think about plowing when the ground was that wet! I also worked for a farmer that had a 10 bottom Dmi plow.
Nice on the DMI. The reason is so wet is this was a plow day planned for the last weekend in July on the Saturday and it rained 3 inches the night before so it was postponed until the next day and it was just about dry enough to run out there. People traveled from all over the country to be there and they wanted to try to run surprisingly they ran a Degelman pro-till right behind the plows and the ground melted out pretty good with just one pass
Everyone loves plowing videos. There is just something extra special about it that everyone enjoys watching or doing. Seems like a lot more farmers are starting to go back to moldboard plowing the last several years too. We have driven through North Adams MI and the surrounding area several times. Never saw this tractor, but would have been cool to. What does the 50 suffix stand for in Big Bud tractor model designations?
I think in some areas you need to turn the ground over. probably more in potato ground.
50 stands for being equipped with a Twin Disc transmission. They were first manufactured in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area.
@@user-jp7rk1uf2n Thank you!
I do love a ploughing video, if it's done right.
My Dad said his older brother would plow using Grandpa's MM 5 Star with a mounted 4 bottom and he would follow with a MM U and 3 bottom plow. 7 bottoms in on pass, they were getting fields done. 😁
Just imagine if that DMI 21 bottom plow was a rollover plow-!
I can’t imagine how heavy it would be
Cool video and listening to the history on this DMI plow.
Very neat to see this big bud at work.
We plow with IH 3 bottom hooked to a 42 hp Ford 3600, We can turn 10 acres in about 5 hrs!
That's massive iron all the way around. Detroit power🤘
I would like to see the new Case Quadtrac 715 pull this.
My thoughts exactly
Omg amazing exellent video bigtractorpower greeting from burley Idaho
Thanks for this video @bigtractorpower I rode in the Steiger Tiger III that pulled this plow back in 1978.
Wow that is very cool. A Tiger and a DMI are an impressive tillage team.
That plowing combo deserves the accolade of "Awesome!"
It is cool.
That is an impressive plow😁👍 it would be pretty neat to see the big roy pull it, but I'm fine with a big bud too😁💪
Simple yet very effective design. Nothing like good ole Detroit Muscle pulling that 21 bottom.
👍👍
Very cool, we don't moldbord plow much anymore, we use a 24' Krause chisel plow for deep tillage most of the time, but sometimes we pull a 6 bottom with the ole D6 still.
Very cool.
Another "AWESOME" Video!
Such a cool team. Big Buds are awesome but the Big Roy was a beast. 21 bottom 77 ft long
It would be great if Big Roy was put back in the field for an event.
That's amazing... 3 passes and my corn field would be done.... Lol
Wow that big bud is pulling through soft ground! Amazing! The detroit 2 stroke has me ❤
The 650/50 is a monster. 👍
A+ video Jason!!
Thank you Mark. This was a fun day in the field.
That's an absolute monster
That is one big plow thank you for this video
I had a 12 bottom plough with a 450hp steiger I thought that was big set up as the plough was 50 foot long it was a Grigorie bension but what a awesome set up love the big bud I am a huge fan of these tractors
Another top quality video big T 👍👍👍 That plough is in a league of its own....
Thank you Craig. It is a monster.
Have used a 6 bottom dmi hydra-wide for fall plowing, really great was when doing fields after picking corn if started to plug from stalks would just open a little bit, let the plug go through, then close it back up, the farmer worked for had added a stop at 18 inches so wouldn't close any farther after opening for plugs
Very nice. What did you pull your DMI with? I just shared an IH 1566 with a DMI 6 bottom on a KZhead short at kzhead.infoshosA_jSaZE?si=6HT9wy9huCjNLqP-
When I was a kid tillage, plowing and discing was every year. Nowadays it's rare to see. Doesn't tilling the ground potentially help with more yield?
Greatly depends on the ground and the crop. Organic crops are getting more popular and those farmers use tillage to help control weeds.
Basically tillage is expensive... just with diesel alone....no till saves a ton of diesel cost...that being said....I don't know the current cost benefit of till vs no till.
So much depends on the soil, the climate, and the values of the farmer. Tillage is easy, and does a good job of covering up mistakes. On level ground, it may not be too detrimental, especially in more northern areas. On lighter, more rolling soils, properly done no till will do a better job of maintaining soil health and gives good yields, but it take more intensive management and it is harder to hide mistakes.
Awesome vid 😀 Greetings from Sweden
That,s auwsome.
Using modern agricultural machinery helps reduce negative environmental impacts, such as reducing the use of chemicals.😊😮❤
Like to see DMI Tillage tools. This plow is Awesome is all i can say.
DMI tillage was the top seller in the 80’ and 90’s.
Endless tractor engine power 💪😉👍
V12 power 👍👍
I love the sound of the Detroit engine
V12 power 😁👍👍
Com um conjunto desse da prazer arar a terra 👏👏👏🤠👍
We plow with a 7120 Case Ih magnum, with the pump turned up, and an international 720 5 bottom.
I grew up in the farm equipment business. IH. Biggest plow I ever put together was a 8 bottom plow. Thought that was huge. This was 1972.
The 875 disk ripper shown in this video is $241,000. Prices have gone up a bunch since 1978.
Farm machinery really grew up in the 1970s from the start to finish of the decade.
I love videos like that ‼️
Thank you for watching. This was a cool event to film.
Good video.
Turned alot of dirt with a 5bottom Hydra Wide. Good Plow
Very cool. What tractor did you run with it?
Good work 👍
I seen this plow in 1976 at Farmfest 76 Lake Crystal Minnesota. It plowed there hooked to a 2+2 Panther Steiger 640 Hp
Very cool to have seen the Panther Twin.
That plow is somehow crazier than big bud.
So how do they plow the headlands ? Do they use a smaller tractor and plow for the bits that the 21 bottom plow is unable to do ?
I have a picture of that steiger at the farm progress show. I was there. Great.
That is very cool. It must have been a sight to see in 1978. Thank you for sharing.
Would love to know how deep he's plowing. There's nothing like a Detroit for turning fuel into noise. I had a 4-53 N in a Dynahoe 190-4 and I got it near the redline once and thought I was going to rip a hole in spacetime. It was a great engine though. It could sit for 6 months and would be running within 5 seconds of hitting the starter.
I like this video especially because you included a look at the other tractors owners had use to pull this plow. They were debating how much horsepower the current Big Bud needed to pull the plow. A rule of thumb for handling a plow is one draw bar horsepower for every inch of plow width. If this plow can be widened to plow a swath 40 feet wide (480 inches) at minimum the tractor pulling it would need 500 hp at the draw bar. Likely 650 engine horsepower. That's a lot of tractor and power to put on the ground.
Great video
I plough with a 6 furrow reversible kverneland plough pulled by a new holland T7.270.
*That's an impressive plow! 😁👍 It would be awesome to witness the mighty roy pulling it, but I'm also content with a big bud.*
I sure hope some day the Big Roy returns to the field for at least some kind of tillage demonstration.
@@bigtractorpower how about getting some footage of some Log Skidders and Bulldozers pulling Rome Plow bush & bog disk harrows in the process of converting clear cut forest land into new farming fields ?
👋 hi 👋 From Dexter👁️😎👁️Missouri My friend. Super awesome video. As always. Have a super amazein🌉night weekend. Be safe on🛣️🚛roads🛣️
Thank you James.
Это самый крутой трактор который я только видал в жизни❤😊. супер
👍👍👍
Ground compaction at it's finest!!!!
Full speed ahead 👍👍
How do they transport the plow?
Mm the legendary KTA 1150 19L of fun! ❤
👍👍
I remember the panther tractors they would pull a load too just like the big buds
I have a 2 Bottom Ford 101 mold board plow that I pull with a Ford 3930, 4 wheel drive Tractor. .......... ....Thats Kind of the Same??? Isn't it? Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
we use a 24' Krause chisel plow for deep tillage most of the time,
Very good
Covering a lot of ground quickly, but that one field was much too wet to be plowing in, surprised the tractor did not spin down and get stuck.
Very Nice!!👍👍
Thank you for watching. This was a fun day in the field.
That makes sense with big roy now! Just a trench in soft ground, more flotation with duals or triples
It would be neat to see the Big Roy in the field.
@@bigtractorpower i would love to see big roy in action! The biggest tractor I’ve found around my area is a yellow beast, i think a rike Id love to see big bud, big roy in person!!
I kind of like jimmies but after watching that J D copycat 10 X with that v 12 cat the cat is much easier on the ears. 👍
Where exactly is this located Jason I'm from south west Ohio???
I would love to see the new john deere 9rx830 hooked to that plow
That would be very cool to see.
Haven't plowed in 10 years. Have a white/Ford 508 plow.
Nothing like that has ever been seen on the African soil
This little tractor 🚜 plow 100 acres in 10 hours 😅😅😅 ❤
Them ol screamin detroits sound like they gonna come apart😂! Nice setup though👍👍
V12 power 😁
Very impressive
It’s a monster. Thank you for watching.
@@bigtractorpower yeah, its a monster... for sure.... espacially für an Austrian Guy ;-) here the most Traktors have 200 bhp ;-)
I wanna see the new big bud hooked to this being tested
It would be neat to see the 700 plowing.
If it ever gets completed😂😂😂😂
Then the classic detriot is singing away lol ❤❤
👍👍
That big
Great video. How do you find farms where you can watch farmers working their fields?
This was filmed at a plow day open to the public. That is why there are so many people watching. In my other videos I just ask the farmer if I can film them at work. So far I have not been turned away.
@@bigtractorpower Thanks for the update. Great videos man. Keep them coming!
Oh, thats more than half of what the Case 150 steamengine can pull.
I'd like to see a newer Case Ih stiger or John Deere track articulated tractor pull that plow
There’s a pretty good restaurant in Goodfield if anyone ever finds themself there.
👍👍
Happy Thanksgiving All!
Happy Thanksgiving.
You might want to mic up the interviewee next time. And maybe a wind screen. Otherwise good video.
Yes the wind was unfortunate for the sound as the walk around went on. It was also a big plus to see the plow run. I drive 6 hours on a Saturday morning leaving at 2:00 am to see the plow and it rained 3 inches on the field just as I arrived. The interview was conducted trying to show the plow and navigate the pool of mud around it. Luckily the wind dried the field and by Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm field was mostly dry enough to plow.
You definitely work harder than I would. The only time that I'm up at 2am is if I haven't been to bed yet. They do need to get some drainage tile in that field.
yup no computers or engineering teams......just a genius stuck in the house with pencil, ruler n notepads, where the engineering mantra "keep it simple stupid" comes from
Usally plow with a 6588 and 720 5x20 with dished coulter. Only run a 863 with knife rolls.
Very very cool.
Oi ❤️🚜
...und dabei ist das Feld gar nicht mal so groß....das wäre eher für Kanada etwas...
That bigbud needs a diff locker
The 650/50 has 75,000 pound axles. They were not set up for a differential. Even if they were the tractor has so much power you would run a great risk of just tearing up the axle. The best bet is to just power through the mud. This field had 3 inches rain on it the day before.
38k in 1978 is 180k now
It’s amazing how the costs have risen. The 875 show in this video lists for $241,000.
Das ist kein Pflügen, dass ist rumkratzen
Do we not use large (oversized) tractor and attachment like the Big Bud/ DMI 21 bottom? What would be the reason for not building Big Bud/ and other large attachments for it? -Cost? -Maintenance difficulty? - weight/ material stresses? Sorry if foolish question? Richmond, VA
Good question. In the 1970’s farm equipment was getting bigger and bigger. Plowing was the main form of tillage. By the early 1980’s tractors reached a peak in horse power as crop prices fell, drought reduced yields and high interest rates hurt sales. Plowing quickly gave way to faster paced conservation chisel plows and no-till. By 1985 the 500-600 hp tractors all ceased production. 380 hp became top end for a decade until the mid 90’s.
Think my 1025R could handle this plow?
That's not plowing ,more like skimming the trash isn't getting buried
This is a demonstration at a plow day. This is purely just for that and fun.
👍👍👏👏🚜🚜👌👌🙏🙏🇧🇷
Sure bears plowing with a old ford 8n 😂
Just a little bit faster. The 8N is a great tractors.
