  • Congratulations! There once was a farmer who won the lottery and not a little lottery but THE lottery. The local news sent a reporter to interview him and he was asked "what was he going to do now?". He thought for a while and said that he was going to continue farming until the money ran out.

    @hamdude2109@hamdude2109 Жыл бұрын
    • So you could deduce from that answer that maybe he wasn't such a good farmer. These days farming is not really a lifestyle as it may have been, rather it requires considerable business acumen.

      @chrispy104k@chrispy104k Жыл бұрын
    • And with all the business knowledge in the world you could still wake up one morning broke as a joke. A farmer is the only business that doesn’t have a set price on what they produce. Way too many other folks taking profit between the farmer and consumer.

    • Yes I know that. Need to be a broker to play the Board. An ex boss was waiting for cattle to go up one more penny and just before closing they dropped a dollar. Millions of dollars were lost that day and they ended up selling a lot of property to get back on stable ground. Either way the broker made their money with no worries You can still lose big.

  • Congrats on your new property.Those two raised areas that you mentioned appear to be the ground work for railroad tracks running through the woods. I had the same configuration at a property I lived on twenty years ago. With some research, found out that they actual had planned on running auxiliary tracks to a final destination to save time for commuters, although they abandoned the project. Again, congrats on your new acquisition! Also, really like your vision for what the areas will become!

  • Congratz on the new property! It's nice to have a new clean canvas on which to paint another portrait! As for the oak - we call them Black Jack Oaks here in Texas. I have a few on my property and I've done everything I can to clear around them and clean them up to promote more growth. Enjoy and I look forward to seeing how you turn your ideas into reality.

  • Wonderful! How exciting to have finally gotten your dream farm! I know you've been doing KZhead for a long time, and it's nice to see how some of that income can be converted into long-term income via rental units, etc. You're young right now, but before you know it, you'll be old like me! If you set everything up right, you can have a comfortable work life and retirement without having to work 80 hours each week. You're smart and a hard worker -- I can't think of anyone who deserves this more than you!

  • Congrats on getting that land! Great investment and plans. That is indeed a Water Oak (a red oak species with spoon-shaped leaves) that is good for lumber but southern oak grows fast so the grains are wider than most red oak.

    @xoxo2008oxox@xoxo2008oxox Жыл бұрын
    • Congratulations Chris! Good news is the Water Oak likes wet areas like the edges of ponds, streams or swamps. Bad news is the have a shorter life span compared to other oaks of only 60 to 80 years. In my neighborhood and others around us in Tampa, FL many of them are having to be cut down because they are EOL and starting to rot from the inside out. That makes them a danger if we were to be hit by a hurricane and given the home insurance situation in Florida the last thing you need is a claim denied because they claim you knew the tree was a hazard and should have been removed. Probably good idea have them checked out when you start clearing.

  • That roadbed is possibly a tram rail put in by one of the original timber companies logging the virgin timber. These tram rail systems were installed in the lower or lowest areas when mules were used to skid the logs downhill. After the timber was hauled out, the rails were then taken up and moved to another site. I live in Louisiana and have even found some of the old rails buried nearby. You may find some yourself as the area is cleaned up. Love your videos.

Best thing is that you won't need to feed them, free land management and doing the work whilst your getting ready for the bigger stuff. No fuel costs!
