And I liked it, because those elements were not present in the original version. In this version Alex didn't even know that he shares his body with a mechanical monster who will not hesitate to kill the target no matter the cost. He didn't know the consequences of his visor going down. Such a shame that they never made a sequel dealing with this problem in further detail. It would be an interesting story if the machine killed someone who Alex wouldn't shoot and then Alex would be convinced that he was the one who pulled the trigger. Robocop fans wanted an emotionless slow moving version of the character like they remember, but instead they got a more emotionally expressive version that could actually move around with dexterity. I don’t like the black design though. I also wish they had gone with the corporate dystopian version of Detroit like the original.

    @Lexyboogie@Lexyboogie8 ай бұрын
    • It wasn't that. The original was a satire of the media, capitalism, and corporate America with the classic who am I/Tin man story with a cyberpunk twist in the middle of it. Set in a dystopian version of the USA behind it, with a hard Rated R with all the blood and guts with it to get its point across. It didn't pull its punches and it became a classic because of that. The remake went political ( Sam Jackson character is basically any host on Fox news) with barely any satire in it, went for a pg-13 rating when in the past it was proven that the Robocop series works best as a TV-MA or rated R movie and last but not least, the director and the producers played it way to safe on the film.

    • @@unknownname8591 It's not that simple sadly. In the original trilogy it is shown that the public of Detroit is complicit of OCP's takeover of the cops and the later the city is do to the incompetence of Detroit's city hall and the the city itself going bankrupt. The public thinks (which in turn is compounded in via the media that OCP owns itself) that OCP is the bright future for Detroit along with its delta city plans. This is shown in the second film where the Mayor tries to raise funds to buy the city back from OCP before they default on the bank loan they took from OPC via a T.V. fundraiser only to raise about 4 grand out of 37.4 million by the end of it. Its only by the end of Robocop 2 when Robocain goes nuts and kill a bunch of people in downtown Detroit and the events of Robocop 3 that the city wakes up so of speak, sees OCP true colors, and starts to fight back. It's the see no evil, hear no evil that the public itself adopted that allowed OPC corruption to grow within the city. And by the way, this is only one side of the story. You got Alex Murphy a.k.a. Robocop's journey in all three films to find his humanity and OCP crazy ass side as well.

How about, instead of a “rogue” electronic monster, it was several agencies, along with all the comm providers working in concert to deal with enemy elements? Pointless, you say. I say, this warning was already too late. Even the late Tom Clancy was brutally interrogated by the CIA, demanding to know where he got the information for the equipment in his first book, “Patriot Games.” Funny thing about interrogations. You can learn a lot as the one being interrogated. He even said, whatever you think you know about what the government trades agencies have is only the tip of the iceberg. They have hundreds of times more than you can possibly imagine. He was probably putting that out on the conservative side. Pointless. SMH.

The original Murphy death scene was so traumatic that it really engaged the audience connecting us to Murphy, I feel this one didn't have that same level of engagement. Should have used more of the original score too. Loved the new suit and also the actor that plays in this one, just felt the story and emotional connection was not as strong as the original.

  • A few things I don't get in this movie: A) Despite knowing he was walking into a bunker, Murphy decided to "Tank" his way into Vallon. Not sure this was brave or stupid. B) The plot about the Chief Officer being corrupt goes nowhere after this scene. It is totally forgotten. C) No info is given why Murphy murder attempt wasn't investigated, or it was closed too soon, other than the implicit information of it being due to corrupt cops. I don't get it, the DA was corrupt too? D) I get that in this version, Murphy wasn't very well like in the precint, his only friend was his partner Jack. But I don't get why no one stood for him when Omnicorp shut him down, especially after that mountain of evidence about corrupt officers. At least Jack should have said no when Omnicorp went to retrieve Murphy.

  • What's brilliant about the original trilogy is, Murphy still has emotions, but they are expressed through a cybernetic filter which at a glance makes Robocop's character sterile and unsettling. Here he's treated like any other masked movie hero: just unmask during dramatic moments and act the hell out of it.

    @tomassoejakto1833@tomassoejakto18338 ай бұрын
    • I know, right? In the original, the underlying point was the soul of the man practically converted into a robot trying to find it's way through the machine, with the unsettling way his body moves adding another layer of dehumanization. Murphy can never have any semblance of normal life again, but his unwavering sense of duty kept him going on despite everything he lost. In the remake on the other hand, 2014 Murphy is just himself, but better, with robotic augmentations sophisticated enough to allow him to do everything a normal human could, and better still (I mean ok, guy lost his dick, but that's nothing compared to what 1987 Murphy lost, he still had a family and was considered human). Even when they attempt to suppress him, he just bounces right back without any struggle, sacrifice or explanation. Robocop 2014 is just a superhero origin movie, he could fit right in a marvel or DC movie.
