2004 was one major year in the footballing world. From the Invincibles to Porto winning the Champions League, but nothing was greater than Greece winning the Euros. Afterthoughts: My mic was very 'poppy' in this video. This will be rectified in the next. The Story of Turkey's journey to hosting Euro 2032 is next Let me know what your thoughts were on this video ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Oooooo……I wonder what kind of theme and culture of the Euro 2032 would bring especially Turkey. Because I know little to nothing of this country. The only thing I know is that the clubs rivalries in the Turkish League is insanely nuts. But I’m curious for this tournament and how football keep on evolving as time goes on.
I still have my official review DVD. Ricardo still amazes me to this day, to save a penalty bare handed then have the balls to take the winning penalty. What a year 2004 was.
The memes would be unbelievable if he did that in 2024. He really epitomised the whole 'goalkeepers are crazy' narrative!
Brings back memories of playing FIFA Euro 2004onk the PS2. Maybe its nostalgia but this is probably my favourite ever EURO's.
Just a beautiful time in life. Perfect
i'm too young to remember EC 2004. but it sounds like it was an interesting tournament. interesting that the young talents of that time eventually became legends
iam from Denmark and iam big lover of anything greek. i was at greece for holidays when they won the euro cup.was one of my best moments of my life.i was so happy for them like my country won the trophy. greeks are very good people and they deserved that title not for their football talents or anything of that but because the trophy was boosted the greek morale. greece is a athletic country anyway they love sports, sea activities etc.i am very proud for the greeks and also i love greece because is my top destination every summer i been there and i will do that until i close my eyes.
What a tournament to watch and a tournament that should not be forgotten. IDK why but I like seeing the underdog team going all out and win the tournament. It just added the extra spice for this tournament. I hope that this year for the Euro 2024, Copa America 2024, and the Men’s Football Olympics (I know people don’t care this tournament but they are some upset that needs to have a shine like Cameroon 2000 or Mexico 2012) will have some upset and have at least one underdog story of making to the semifinals or the finals. The atmosphere of not knowing who’s gonna win the tournament is something special to see and watch.
David Vs Goliath!

wish i was born to see football in 2004, events like these are probably never going to happen again.
Great video. This tournament is looked upon with a lot of nostalgia in Portugal. The mobilization (you should see the scenes of the Portuguese bus arriving to Estádio da Luz, they were being followed by people on horses, planes, boats etc...), Nelly Furtado's song, Scolari's appeal for every balcony to have a Portuguese flag on it, which increased the flag sales so much in Portugal that stores turned to sketchy manufacturers that substituted the castles on the crest for synagoghes (true story). The loss at the end was a very bitter pill to swallow. Most of it was forgotten in 2016, after we out-Greeked the Greek and spoiled the French party (which was so much fun). And to think that we were managed by Fernando Santos, an ex-Greek national team and Panathinaikos/AEK and PAOK coach. It almost makes you believe in destiny (or Fado, to introduce Portuguese vernacular).
Thank you so much and for sharing your memories of the tournament. Really interesting. Deserved victory!
I think this was England's tournament to win. Rooney, Owen, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Beckham, just ridiculous. Beckham missing his penalty against France and then conceding 2 late goals. They should have topped the group, then would have been on a weak side of the draw. Or if the goal had stood against Portugal late on, or Beckham doesn't miss in the shootout after the penalty spot had been scuffed up. I believe they then would have beaten the Netherlands in the semi-final and then against Greece in the final. It just goes to show how tiny things going wrong can cost a team.
International football is about bottles and nerves more than outright skill
Another smashing video mate. The level of research put into these videos, coupled with the quality and you delivery makes it a thoroughly entertaining viewng experience. Made me remember what a good tournament this was; it was actually the first one that I was old enough to watch completely. 😂
You're too kind mate, thank you so much. Exactly the same for me in regards to watching, which definitely adds to the rose tinted view on it!
Just found your channel about a month or two ago mate. Love the content. Can't believe you have less than 10k subs! Keep grinding boyo.
Thank you mate, really appreciate that!
Beautifully made video.
Thank you!
Great video, thank you!
Legend thank you
Again very informative, and great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video. Looking forward to the next. Keep up the amazing work.
I was so looking forward to this video. For one, this was the first tournament I remember watching, and also I just arrived in Portugal 2h ago ❤
I hope you enjoyed. Where are you in Portugal?
@@intothefray12 fantastic videos as usual, would be great for world cup 2006 as well. I'm just on a business trip 😁
@@thescreengeek8915 thank you mate! 2006 definitely coming, but no idea when! Enjoy your trip my man
Except for the usual England bottlejob, this tournament had quite a few good matches such Czechs beating Netherlands, Germany, Latvia and Denmark to reach the semis. The Greeks did what they had to do, but the Czechs played the best football. A real shame they couldn't add to their Euro 1976 win nor their Euro 1996 final appearance. I know the Czechs have a peculiar habit of qualifying for the Euros, but often missing the World Cups. Yet that Euro 04 side of Baros, Rosicky, Nedved, Koller, Cech, Berger and others were irresistible.
Honestly what a Czech team. I think the Nedved injury was the turning point. He stays on, they win the whole tournament I think. Honestly might have to make a 'streets will never forget' video about some classic international lineups!
All I remember from euro 04 was Totti playing with his hair.
Great video as usual. Fun tidbit, well not so fun for me. Between 1996 and 2008 Germany didn't win a single Euro's game before nearly going all the way in 2008. God I miss the first half Löw days.
Thanks man! That's a great stat I didn't know. How do you feel about Germany heading into Euro 2004?
Denmark was biggest shock since they never even qualified.
Absolutely, although with that team, how did they not qualify!
It was great tournament, but unfortunately I was not able to watch it since in USA all the EURO 2004 games were shown on cable TV and I couldn't afford cable TV at that time 😢
Big sad :(
I don’t know what you meant when talking about Bulgaria and their major competition appearances but it is wrong and even relatively recently before the Euro 2004 finished 4th in the World Cup in 1994
I'm not sure the exact part you are referencing, but I think I was only referring to previous Euros appearances, but unsure
@@intothefray125:53
@@user-ny1sc1ys4o fair enough I misspoke. I meant second euros appearance
@@intothefray12 👍keep up the work I enjoy your videos after recently seeing your channel
@@user-ny1sc1ys4o thanks! 🙏🏽
If England's so called golden generation were ever going to win anything, this is definitely the one that got away.
Agree. They played well at this tournament. Decisions went against them. Nevermind.
I mean the Czechs did technically had won the title as Czechoslovakia and the association holds the honour 🤷🏻♂️
You are correct. UEFA classifies it in a strange way in that sometimes it counts the Czechoslovakian triumph as a Czech win and sometimes it doesn't. I decided to go as if they had never won, maybe incorrectly. Hope you enjoyed!
dear @intothefray12 can you do a look back at the last time germany hosted a major tournament, the 2006 world cup please?
Definitely coming. Not sure when yet, but I assure you it will happen! Thanks for watching
With the Greek economy down the whole they set this up to WIN so they could be happy about something and they could forget about their horrible position and they could sing and dance around the EU flag
What a conspiracy!
At the time the greek economy was in a boom, changing very rapidly and there was a lot of hope for the future. Similar "nothing can happen to us" spirit to what you see in Poland today :) The problems came later.
