Watch live as Russia stages its annual Victory Day parade on Moscow’s Red Square, marking victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.
President Vladimir Putin is due to make a speech on Tuesday (9 May) amid tight security following a series of drone attacks, including on the Kremlin citadel itself, that Moscow has blamed on Kyiv.
One of the most important public holidays in Russia, Victory Day commemorates the huge sacrifices made by the Soviet Union during WWII, in which around 27 million citizens perished.
This anniversary is even more emotionally charged as Russia mourns thousands of soldiers killed in the nearly 15-month war in Ukraine, which shows no sign of ending.
Mr Putin has repeatedly likened the war - which he casts as a battle against "Nazi"-inspired nationalists - to the challenge the Soviet Union faced when Hitler invaded in 1941.

My father who immigrated to Canada from Haiti in 1970 always told me from a young age about the symbolic day of May 9 and how the world should honor the sacrifice the Red Army and the Russian people made during WW2. Although I have no family who were directly affected by this war, I have made sure to start speaking to my 9 year old son about this just like my father did to me back in the 70's. Russians acted like an animals. There was no “liberation” by red army, they did even worse things to civilians than Nazi. My polish and ukrainian great-grandfathers were fighting on the soviet side in this war and they used to reminisce that people of “liberated countries” were so terribly scared of Russians that they were hiding wherever they could, because soviet frontline soldiers that have just left this place, were raping and killing whoever they wanted. After war, Stalin have created the greatest lie of all, which is called “liberation by Soviet Army”. It was not liberation. Communism destroyed evil of nazism and continued the same thing, using similar methods. And people here in Central Europe still remember that, that’s why we don’t like Russians so much.

Мой покойный отец закончил войну 11 мая в Австрии, почти ничего не говорил нам о войне, тк это было очень больно снова возвращаться в ТО ВРЕМЯ... Потом закончил военно-морское училище им. Дзержинского в Ленинграде и отслужил в подводном флоте до выхода в запас. Но ещё и потом работал в штабе Черноморского флота в Севастополе. На войне, молодым мальчиком, командовал взводом пулемётчиков и всегда вспоминал о том, каких разных национальностей были его бойцы... Последние годы был капитаном 1 ранга и уже инвалидом войны... Вечная им память и слава!!!
Мой дед не воевал! На крыше был пулемёт и целился на Москву!Андропов знал... в 2014 году пулемёт выстрелил и ГИРКИН сбежал из Славянска! Мой дед герой! Защитник от русских фашистов!

Lieutenant Kellner got out of the burning car with a rifle in his hands. His leg was torn off. A few minutes later he died from blood loss. He was married. He was 26 years old. I think this American deserves a good memory from the Russian people. He carried out the same mission - to destroy the Nazis.

We see them marching through Red Square with all their different uniforms on, and it's so satisfying to watch but can anyone please explain to me which branch of the Russian Army wears what uniform in the parade? For example the Russian soldiers with the green uniforms with red berets and red shoulder patches, the same once but with green berets, the soldiers with the black uniforms and white hats, the soldiers with dark blue uniforms and blue berrets, the soldiers with blue uniforms and blue hats, the soldiers with the cyaan hats, the soldiers in light brown uniforms with red berets, the soldiers in dark blue uniforms with red berets.

We have a VERY good memory and hope we pass this tradition of parades to our children and grandchildren. As we say" No one is forgotten. Nothing is forgotten !" There is not a single family in post- Soviet countries that was not affected by the war. The USSR lost over 24,000, 000! people half of which were civilians. It was a genocide of Slavic population whom the Nazis considered subhuman. We won against all the odds. I believe that we have all the right to celebrate this day our way whether the rest of the world likes it or dislikes it.

My dad told me that when he was a boy my grandad would often scream and cry, I never knew my grandad he passed away when I was a baby. Basically he said the following: “Comrade defence minister of Russian Federation, the troops of Moscow garrison are formed for the parade commemorating 78th anniversary of victory in Great Patriotic war. Commander of the parade General of the army Salyukov reporting”. Just a ceremonial thing.
