A sinkhole opened up on the Spring River near Sadler Falls on Dead Mans Curve. The sinkhole was the site of a drowning on Saturday when a kayaker capsized in the whirlpool and drowned. Here is a release from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission:
AGFC asks boaters to use caution on Spring River
MAMMOTH SPRING - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is asking anyone floating the Spring River in Fulton County to avoid the area near Sadler Falls. A sinkhole has opened below the falls near Dead Man’s Curve. Around noon Saturday, the resulting whirlpool was the location of a fatal boating accident.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Fulton County, along with the AGFC, have installed buoys and roped off the area where the whirlpool is located. The river is still open, but the barricaded area should not be breached. Engineers will be on site this week to assess the area and look for a solution.
That flip-flop is a terrifying reminder for everyone from the person that died that fateful day
Could have just been trash or forgotten. I don't think kayakers wear flip flops.
@@MisterHeroman Yep. Keen Sandals maybe, but no flipflops. Absolutely not. No control.
what a stupid conclusion
I wonder if this is authorized for broadcast?
Bad Vlad 🤔🤔🤔
Seems possible......🙄👏👏😁⚜
Mhh idk
Bad Vlad Way do you care.
Can't tell, Bad Vlad--I'll just go ahead and broadcast and see what happens.
The water is going in the "Sinkhole" and coming out where the bushes are, Very nice video!
Excellent footage, kudos. Drones are such an amazing tool.
Bo Gardiner yeah I've been watching you all day, scary right? Think!
In whitewater kayaking terms it's called a sieve... I've encountered a few, happens at old dam sites alot when the top deck or wall, depending on design, of the dam deteriorates or erodes thru.
I have lived on Spring river since 1983 every year somebody dies in these spots this is not the only spot on Spring River they're places that will suck you to the bottom and hold you there rather you have a lifejacket jacket on or not people get lost in the beauty of the river and don't pay attention to their surroundings
Jerry Brantley no, dont make the hole bigger, that would let water flow freely and could drain the deeper parts above it, just plug the hole and let it go back to the way it was b4 the hole. Not a sinkhole.
Jerry Brantley Wow. But all is ok. Right. Lol. What did we do to it. Take water out earth puts it back. Maybe one day you will wake up and the water will not be there. All under the ground .. Never know.
just to clarify, this isn't Deadman's Curve where the kayaker drowned on Saturday. this is a sinkhole upriver from Saddler Falls. the one that they are showing in the local state newscasts is down river about 1/4 mile from Saddler Falls. The one at Deadman's Curve is out in the "soft water" section below the three foot falls and on the West side of the river.
333widowmaker thanks very much for clarifying that. Do you know of a link with a video of the actual sinkhole that killed that poor guy? If so I’d appreciate it if you posted the link here. Thanks again. Take care
All the pictures that I have seen have been on either local broadcasts or on the AGFC site. Apparently there were two men sucked into the hole by Deadman's Curve but one was spit out 30 feet downriver unharmed.
deadmans curve and sadler falls are the same thing. it's been sadler falls for over 22 years, I dont know who started calling it deadmans curve, but i know it was a drunken idiot that doesnt know how to kayak or canoe like most of them on the river. people just started calling it deadmans curve 5 yrs ago or so. It's an easy class II rapid unless your stupid and drunk.
this is the video of the sinkhole, you dont need a link, you just watched it. the current and the rapid is on river left. the sinkhole is on river right where it is a series of small ledges & flatwater pools. i've heard theyre going to blast it out this week. its a very popular river in the summer. I've seen these on the chattooga river, and "no" i did not squeal like a pig or hear banjo's
Todd Buh deleted
Is this the spring river? I hope not, its my favorite river to kayak for an easy day.
It looks like part of that rock wall has finally worn away under the bushes and the water is going through there instead of over the top.
gayle525 That's exactly what I was thinking as well.. Great observation 👍 Now just blow up some ground between the hole and the ocean (I assume) Fix the water fall later.
Just airlift a bolder into it. Plug it.

Lost more than one canoe here. Easier than you would think. Not really difficult float but there are areas that usually get a someone a couple times a year.
It just comes out the other side? Sinkhole?
About as real as Trump
My thoughts to....its just running through the rock. Not a sinkhole. 🤣🤣🤣
Passhole! Hahaha
It goes underneath the terrain and comes up on the other side!!! But the passageway could be to narrow for a person to fit through, and then there are tree branches, jagged rocks, and all kinds of things a person can get caught on!!! It's hardly a sinkhole, but it still shoves a person underground!!! If you think that that looks so harmless, why don't YOU dive in!!! After all, Mr. Smartypants, you'll just pop right up on the other side!!! Right, Mr. Smartypants???
@@redredmane5544 yo chill tf out he’s just saying it’s not a real sinkhole nobody said they wanna swim in it💀

Has drone videography revolutionized documentary, or what?
Absolutely.
Syd Moran entire hole*
No sound. What's the point.
ZionHillCalling yep, every time there’s a disaster or anything, there’s always some fuckhead with a drone. It makes sense with a lot of things but I’m so tired of seeing the same basic looking drone footage EVERY DAY on the news!
@@TheMW2informer they also use drones in construction and demolition of buildings... that’s more exciting
*_I bet. The flip-flop is still spinning right now _*
It's a whirlpool not a sinkhole.
On the island of Kauai a tourist stood over the Spouting Horn the incoming wave threw him up into the air. When he came down went into the hole never to be recovered. The state then blew the hole open so it would not spray up!
Technically a sink hole but there's an outlet , so is it?
From the air it "looks like" it flows down and out right there next to the whirlpool. just a little bit of explosive would open up that obstruction and make it safe.
a backhoe will do it better. Just dig out the section between the hole and where it comes out.
@@rolloverriderpgr I wouldn’t want to be operating the machine. Explosive would be safer.

I fully agree.
How American of you. "Slight inconvenience? BLOW IT UP!

Boy are you dumb
It's just a seive, water runs underneath the land. If you got sucked in you could pop out the other side as long as the tunnel is big enough for you to fit. Very deadly though usually.
its “just” a sieve, very deadly though. Ig u dunno how to use words my friend
Weird how something I wrote 4 years ago makes no sense to me now. Glad you put in the effort to make a useless comment just like me
@@loganc339 lmao
I was wondering where my flip flop went. Just happy that I found it
Looks like a sieve not a sink hole.
Its neither of those...its a whirlpool
A whirlpool is a sinkhole forming
I guess they don't call it dead man's curve for nothing. Sad but true
Did u get autorisation to broadcast this?!
When I was a kid this appeared in the river where I lived, and unfortunately three people died . Two teenagers who were pulled in then an adult man who'd been fishing just up river who tried to save them. Long story short the state diverted the river and filled it in with concrete, 3 trucks worth. Alot of limestone quarries in the area ,two are flooded.
No pfds apparently, eh?
This reminds me of my toilet. It won't flush worth a shit either!
It's been called dead mans curve for alot longer than that sinkhole has been there. I lived in the area for most of my life. I've floated that area of the river.
THAT'S NOT A SINKHOLE YOU STUPID INBRED FUCK....
Of course. I'd expect you ArKansas boys to be crazy like that. I served with a couple of ArKansas boys. Guts!

It's a wonder the person didn't get spewed out the other end. It appears that the hole is very short, unless the person got wedged inside. Awful tragedy, but very unwise to be in the water here, with that risk.
you just look for fights... keyboard fights at that what a LOOSER. Boooooo! Hisssssss! Booooooo!

So the bottom of the sinkhole is on the other side of those rocks? Looks like water taking the easiest rout to me, take one end of a rope tie it off and toss the other end in the spinning vortex of death and see where it comes out.
*legend say that 1 shoe and stick are still going in circles to this day*
To whoever said blow it up, in this situation I think that's the best idea. Remove the hazard if possible.
Is that why it’s named dead mans curve?
Been in dead mans curve and it's always been swirly. I sure hope the people who's flip flop is going down did not go with the shoes.
Someone drowned on it. Someone in a kyak.
Mrs mart pants kayak*.
Bet he got hung up on drift wood in there. Or just stuck against the wall due to hydraulics?
I didn't see any sinkhole. I seen a whirlpool caused by water draining into a hole in the rock and was coming out beneath it.
Exactly!
Quick, some scientist send a camera down there see where it ends up. Should have put a chip on the flip flop
maria13corvette you can see where it comes out. It goes down the hole, and out just feet away on the other side of the drop
That sucks!
Obviously its just undermined to the lower end of the falls, its kinda what they're showing in the video, dude was either physically infirm,or fucking loaded. But probably prone to panicked and a shitty swimmer.I ain't armchair quarterbacking,I've had a lot of bad whitewater experience.
Your an idiot...it goes 4 feet away on the other side of the grass
Dude seriously? A chip on the sandle that wont go down it? Lol look 4 feet you might get a clue
Hope there's an update. It's almost 1 years.
Update:- The water is flowing in opposite direction now.😄
I think someone is still attached to that flip-flop!!!
I took your watermark off and broadcasted this on the news without paying you
I don't in the water anymore can't trust no save
That is not a sinkhole, that is a whirlpool. it never sinks, the flip flop continues to circle as you panned out.
Shame on you, to show a man being killed!!
This is not a sinkhole. The water is coming out like 4 feet away
There are some classic comedians gathering here. I'm in tears lmao. Thank you each and everyone XXX

Rip to the old Asian lady who went through it.
I wouldn't call it a whirlpool. Slips my mind the actual name. Also, no reference in the vid. Was it a small child or a very very large adult? No pfd?
From one side gose down & comes out the other side but not save for people is dangers
Not a sinkhole. It's a whrilpool, created by the rock outcroppings from the flow of the water.
No guy It's a sink hole in the river. You can see where the water rushed out under the ledge. It's incredible actually. I've been all over different kinds of rivers kayaking for 20 years and haven't quite seen one like that. If you didn't know better you would think it was an Eddie line like you did. Look again. It's a great video.
@@jamieharr4459 definitely a whirlpool.

I wonder how many things people thrown into that pool from the side banks?
why is the sink hole dead do they come alive
that's not a sink hole. the water is clearly exiting the other side having tunneled under the obstructions.
It's not really a sink hole. It's a river which goes underground snd discharge a few feet away. I see no corvettes or buildings falling into this
My water level in my well came up 35ft nice!!!
Id say its possibly near where tetonic plates have shifted.....usually helps cause sink holes....displacement of water....earthquakes....volcanoes to erupt more frequent.
Well, Missouri is right on the New Madrid fault line, so you're partially right, but this isn't a sinkhole, it's a whirlpool, created by erosion of rock formations... it's more like a sink drain, lol
That's where my paycheck goes when wifey feels frugal
Apparently Live Storms media thinks News Channel 5 (and every other news corporation who MIGHT be interested in this footage) doesn't own their own drone.
Someone died, or just saying it's deadly? 😯
sunny days Someone passed away.
I live here in Arkansas kinda scary if you think about it
We sent someone into a river like this to measure the depth not knowing, there was no indication. 10 minutes later we came back and saw the whirlpool where he had been standing. An hour later the river was gone and there was just a big hole in the ground
"Won't come back from Dead Man's curve"...Jan & Dean.
Nobody gonna talk about that body pushed under against those rocks
Oh my goodness
Thats not a sink hole. Its where water has eroded a hole under a rock formation. I really hope noone is stuck in there and thats just someones flipflop got away.
Is this authorized for broadcast? Lol 😂
that's a bit terrifying
thats no sinkhole at all!
there"s that damn flip flop my daughter can never find
Not a sinkhole. Dirt has been washed out in the rocks/bolders at the edge and water is coming out on other side. JMO
sinkhole or not, its still dangerous. anything that sucks you under is dangerous
It's fucked up but there's 0 chance of getting out. Best option at one point is to swim into and hope it shoots you out the other end if there is one, which there was. If there's not, well it wasn't going to work out for you anyways.
No real flip flops were harmed making this video.
Just cuz there's a flip flop doesn't mean it's owner died, they most likely threw it in to see it pop out the other side.
Soo... The flip flop died, or...?
No the flip flop did not die. A courageous green activist, jumped in to pull it out. Both cameout just fine. And the flip flop was sent to a recycling center.
Is that dude in there i cant tell!?!?
the flip flops are trapped in there just like my dad's ex wife.

Looks like a whirlpool
That! Is not a sink hole , why say it is so .🤷♂️
Oh, how sad! What a horrible way to die.😢
so, it misn't forbroadcast? Why the fuck is it on KZhead?
Maybe a little idea for some people that video this and old waterproof video camera y'all should throw in a sinkhole just to see where it goes
Name of the place says it all!
Maybe could put some massive rocks on outskirts of sinkhole so people don't get sucked in also or just don't allow people to go down that river temporarily....
Hey there’s my flip flop can you reach it 4 me ?
You shoulda thrown something huge in it to plug it up. Somebody said Rosie O'Donnell, well that'd be a great start. Stick her brother/doppelganger Michael Moore in there with it and it's sure to stop.
Good God mann do you really want to toxify the entire river system. Which just one alone can do. Imagine throwing both of them in.
Actually Chris, is @Mag wouldn't happen to be. One of those Michael Moore types. Would he?
Peta wouldn't be to happy about throwing rhinos till there death.....
or write down one third of trumps lies on a large piece of cardboard...but that would damn up the whole river

so that's how those big arches were formed...lots lots more water though
rather than rope it off and worry about it just take a damn pick and knock that little spot out. 20 minutes and it goes from a whirlpool to a nice channel for a kayak.
Nice video, but it's not really a sink hole it's coming out just on the other side of the land bridge. If you got sucked in you would die unless the opening is large enough for you to flush through like a turd.
Did someone really drown there? It looks way too small to suck a person under......
Maybe this is how water is disappearing around world
That's messed up!......" Gulp!..Excuse me, Ma'am...but does this flip flop belongs to your daughter?"....says the cop to the missing kid , mother!..
Just normal wear and tear of limestone rock (well any rock) with water flowing over it.
That's a big gulp
A bit of well placed tnt would sort that out
This reminds me I need to throw my workshirts in the washer
So thats where my sandal went
tsssss sinklhole??? no way :D
Plug it with Rosey O'Donnell before someone gets hurt lol
Underrated comment haha!
Lol why’s there an onion it the sink hole?
So did they exit to the bottom after being stuck in the tunnel or whatever or did it just pull them into the whirlpool and drown them? The same kind of whirlpool that I believe created Mammoth springs. They claim it's from surrounding hills draining into the earth and then emerging and being the springs. I believe it's from the lake of the ozarks whirlpools feeding them.
