Hi, I’m John Schultz, owner of JDS Home Inspection Services in Denver, Colorado. I’ve produced several videos on home-related subjects, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to talk about something I’m very passionate about. I love being a home inspector, but I also love spending time in my garden. Many new homeowners have never had a lawn before, let alone a garden, and starting from scratch can be a daunting prospect.
Great video! You cover so much in a straight forward and quick video. I’m a first time homeowner in Loveland, and I’m so excited to get a small backyard garden going!
Thanks for this. I've been wanting to get my garden started for ages and I think this is the year.
A lot of great info thank you! We live 7800 ft up CO.I would have used potting soil to mix in oooopss.
Your tips are extremely helpful for me as a beginner and a new resident to Colorado. Thank you!
You should make a gardening channel.
Totally!!
Great tips! Took me a few years to realize I could overwinter my peppers -- saves so much time! Would love to see an update of this year's garden.
I had no idea! I’m so excited about this!
Thank you. Any tips for dealing with the hail season?
Thanks for making this video
Great tips! I love to garden too!
I like your recommendation of growing flowers with your veggies. The problem with beekeeping is that it can put competitive pressure on our essential native pollinators, plus honeybees can be an expensive nuisance. One of my neighbors had to pay $3k to have them gingerly removed from a structure on his property, which seems silly, but he was threatened with fines otherwise.
We keep leaf-cutter bees from Crown Bees. Super easy. Nothing like honeybees. I believe they’re also native.
I'm really interested to see your greenhouse, great video!
MMM you should plant some mozzarella between those tomato and basil!
Keep it in your pocket :)
Nice video! I believe cross-pollination is only an issue if you're harvesting the seeds (exception is corn). Shouldn't affect that year's harvest, right?
I walk past the house with the raised metal beds everyday on the way to the park/tot lot! Beautiful garden. I like they they also have chickens like we do. What a surprise to see this!
Always good when you learn something new, like potting your peppers to bring in over the winter. Also like setting a day for fertilization. I know I tend to forget after a few weeks.
Getting so excited to garden in colorado! We just bought 35 acres of Colorado mountain top 😎. Now just waiting to sell our place in texas and GTFO 😆🤣
Grasshoppers have annihilated my veggies in CO this year.
I’m sorry to hear that, this was indeed a rough year for gardening, that late snowfall in May then a string of hot dry days wreaked havoc. Unfortunately these were perfect conditions for grasshoppers. Try again next year.
