Oh my goodness I can’t believe you just posted this because I have spent three days looking at Sony cameras, wondering why there are so many models to choose from!
😂 what a coincidence!
More alternatives is better for consumers and for all budgets 😂. Hey Sony make more new câmeras this year .
@@rcdhi1gwhich will be very awful? Like most of their models already only differ slightly.. also more new series mean older model never updated to get important features despite similar internal hardware?
@@rcdhi1g but it also makes the choice much harder when certain models are very similar in both price and functionality. And also makes them update firmware much less due to having so many models to support.
learn about glass first, It can halve or double the performance from the camera.
Sony owe you some $$ for this upload. Video is superb! Weldone Jason 👍
Thank you so much for the video! This was exactly what I needed. You guys are awesome!
Am i buying a new camera anytime soon? Nah. Do i still like watching Jason explain and break down all the different models? You betcha. 🤣
Same! I still take photos in my OG Fuji x100!
Great video - very informative. I’ve had 4 of them. RX100vii, a7iii, a7iv, and a7cii. All great hybrid cameras.
Exactly the information and comparison I have been looking for. Thank you!!!
Extensively helpful video! Thanks Jason
Jason, you're the BEST Presenter and Explainer on KZhead. I've watched many videos complaining about the confusion of Sony camera models. However, those videos tell an incomplete picture , don't have enough illustrations and they are presented as more of a rant than an official presentation. On the contrary, yours have beautiful, easy-to-read illustrations, is better organized, more visual, and complete. After watching yours, I now have a complete grasp of those models and know exactly what I should buy. Long live Jason!
Really appreciate your comment 🙇🏻♂️ I’ve been meaning to make this video for awhile now simply because I was getting confused myself. Clarifying what each models are meant for would help me with my future reviews as well. But I also figured people who know nothing about Sony will be overwhelmed so I decide to put together this resource!
Too annoying for me, always happy and smiling.
Just when I was thinking to upgrade to Sony full frame this comes out, glorious!!!! Thanks Jason!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hey man. Great video. Thanks for the content. ❤
Thanks for this Jason! I’m new to cameras and let me tell you, Best Buy isn’t my friend by any means. I returned 4 cameras and ended up sticking with the a6700. Your video will save a lot of folks from the heartburn I went through in a span of 4 months. Very well put together!!!
Hey man!!! I really love all these explanation about Sony. Great Job Jason. Your did a great work. I have been using Sony since August 2019 a7R III Then I bought a a7II later on I will try buy the a7R V. Your explanations are potential
That was the clearest product summary every. Great Job! ONE QUESTION: Why doesn’t the A1 overheat?
the eevee analogy got me
Brilliantly explained, well done, thank a mil!
I grabbed the a7riv at a great price and paired it with the 70-200 OSS mark II lens. I’m searching for a second body. This was very informative thank you!
Love your content! Do you think you could do an in depth video on the current sony a7iv firmware update v3.00? Including the liscense custom gridline purchase/install. Leading specifically to a "how to" instructions/tutorial on how to create/find/purchase custom gridlines (PNG Files) and tranfer thm onto sd card and into camera? I feel newbies such as myself will find the custom gridline feature a plus - not minus - could benefit alot with framing and workflow if i helpful/informative video like this was made. Keep doing what you do !!!
Dude, what a great video! Super informative, to the point, and engaging to watch! The Eevee reference was freaking hilarious... Because it's true! Thank you for this!
The final breakdown I needed! Wanted something smaller than my a73 to carry and debated a point and shoot but may just get a7c2 with one of the small G lenses. Thanks Jason!
thank you so much for this video, it helps a lot 😭😭😭
Thanks for thatJason at 85 years old, I have been buying Sony cameras for 5 years second hand and new and could never get a clear answer what the difference was other than the pixels when I went into a camera shop. thanks for that.
Very happy to hear that, Leslie! thank you!
Great video! Helped me make my decision to get the 7cii. Upgrading from a canon 7D 😀
Love the info and content; helped narrow down what camera I should get next. I currently have the sony a6000 with kit lens for about 8 years, and recently got the sigma 10-18mm f2.8 and sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I mainly use it during travels and landscape photography; don't really use it for videography. Would you recommend the sony a6700 or sony a7cii? Thanks in advance
So when can we expect the FX3 follow up?? Good video btw, seems you put in a lot of work🔥
Great video Jason! I am upgrading from my Canon 7D. I need a full frame/ also full manual for doing journalism photos, some travel and selling photos to various online magazines and websites. Which one do you recommend? I have a good Tamron lens which is E-mount all rounder and I believe fits the Sony range. Thank you!
Hey everyone, I'm Michael, a Vongaholic, yes the one Jason is always talking about, of course I watch every video on this channel. Hi, I'm a Vongaholic, of course I liked this video. Hi, I'm a Vongaholic, of course I checked out........ "The links in the description box." hahaha. On another note, I'm still rocking the A6000, thinking about the upgrade, I'm between the A67000 or the A7iv. What toooo dooooo.....
What a great breakdown!! Brilliant
Gracias, necesitaba este video para decidir cual camara comprar. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
FX3 for video and A7R5 for photography here! Boom!
omfg thank you so much. I was straining my eyebrows/eyes so hard trying to figure out what to start and grow with that I got a tension headache!
Amazing video! Legit saved me haha thank you 🙏
Wicked video & I now have a much better understanding, ThanQ.. 🙏🏾
Thank you man!!!
Keep up the good work Jason. Watching your videos made me appreciate the Sony lineup and workflow more. Currently rocking an A7 II for portrait and street photography and a ZV-1F for travel videography. Hopefully getting the A6700 to complete the trio series cameras.
Thought you should have had a7s III. Why you went for that.
@@boxoffisa for travel, not everyone needs a full sized gear, especially if you are going out for a vacation and no professional work is involved. although the a7s3 is undoubted the best in class for video, the size of the thing just screams attention, unlike going with a zv that is very compact but can do a lot (including 4k30 hlg / slog3)
@@trevourlance27 I get your point. It’s good for me to learn a few things from interactions. I wanted a camera that can go for work and still also go for my hobbies without screaming attention. Though I had a list of needs I hadn’t thought about the effect of size. Now I gotta go hybrid.
@@boxoffisa that's why the 3rd cam im investing is the A6700 .. its not as thick as a full frame body, but has more flexibility than a ZV.
@@trevourlance27 a6700 could fit my needs. Not sure if it takes good stills. I shot 50% photos, 50% photos.
I love this video, but just feel like it needs a part 2, that answers the question, “what do I do with all this video footage I have from my new camera?” I don’t want to spend time editing video, so I need a dead simple workflow that take my video clips (that I somehow get into Apple photos, why does Sony make this so hard to access your video clips?) and makes an automatically generated video from a day/week/trip etc.
Hey! Im a photographer and videographer for just about 1yr-ish already. And this made me completely understand the whole SONY CAMERA family and its BRANCHES. LOL. It was really hard to understand when my friends explained SONY Fx series, Sony A7s, ZVs yada3x. HAHAHA Thanks Jason! Ps. Love the voice effects on this Video HAHAHAHA Kudos!
i've considered the A7C line a lot for its compact size and full frame sensor. But at the same time i feel like needing the bigger bulkier full frame lenses kinda defeat the purpose of having a smaller body
Great rundown of the different models, though one omission that provides huge value is the Sony ZV-E1, which offers FX3 quality in the ZV line and is a phenomenal B camera and travel camera. The ZV-E1 doesn't get a lot of mentions, but it's easily the most fun Sony camera I've used with incredible picture quality.
I did mention it around 10:55 😏
Unfortunately, it appears the RX100 series is dead now. I don't think Sony has said anything officially, but nobody seems to have them in stock.
Seriously, wish this video was out during holiday sales last year. I spent days trying understanding the camera lineups. 😅 None the less, still awesome knowledgeable video. Thanks!
im sorry im late 🫣
This video is EPIC and it’s an incredible achievement to cover all those differences so well. I bow, I thank and I’ll go save some money now ✌️
Very informative video!
Finally. Someone put it together.
Yeah this is also hard for me. I do want to thank you for putting out this video cause I think I may be able to make a decision within the next month on the camera I want. I have a A7 III but I would love to upgrade. I'm a wildlife photographer with a little bit of landscape. I'm stuck between the A7IV, A7RV and maybe the A9 III. 33 megapixels is just enough for me and I don't need high fps since I take photos of large stationary animals but I really like the 4 axis screen that the A7RV and A9 III have lol
I'm pretty sure the 6100 is still officially available also - and it might have been worth a mention that the NEX line and a5X00 line exist but morphed into the a6X00 line. If buying used the a6100, a5100 or even the NEX7 still get you a 24MP entry point to E-mount.
Best info. Best editing. Best voice overs. Sony-send this man some money!
this is SOOOO USEFUL
to Late! I got the A7r V .Also some great lenses reviewed by you sir. The Pokémon analogy was spot on Lol
hahah i need this video 4 months ago ! .. but I LOVE the explanation of each of the Sony', so thank you !
im sorry im late
How many of you were confused with all the different Sony models??
I'm gonna buy zv-e10 current one with sigma 18-50 for travel and street photography. I think new zv-e10 will be quite expensive so old one will be enough for me
Sony denies firmware upgrades to add backwards featured to some cameras to force u to buy another expensive camera. Therefore if someone isn't a pro who can just write stuff off. Sony is simply ridiculous. And their quality Sony lenses are insanely expensive But in all fairness, Sony software helps alot, lenses are incredible, cameras are simply divine. Just can't afford it all
Any rumors on the fx3 mark ii ?
Could you do something like this for Fuji? I feel their lineup is even more confusing since most of them use ASP-C sensors.
Thank you!
A canon version of this would be cool! I hope you make one. The other videos on youtube don't cut it for me 😂
What did you use for the side voice?
Very well done. With so many models coming out, especially the video models, this is very timely. However, despite the A7RIII having my favorite Sony sensor, I would recommend the A7RIV over the A7RIII, for experienced photographers for the following reasons (I own and use both). The A7RIV has: better focus and tracking capabilities, more cropability (especially significant for wildlife and sports), 26 megapixel APS-C mode (vs 20 megapixel for the A7RIII), noticeably better button design and ergonomics, Continuous AF (auto focus) up to f/11 (vs only f/8 for the A7RIII), improved tracking notification in the viewfinder, 16 shot pixel shift (instead of 4 shot for the A7RIII), and compatibility with Sony’s small Bluetooth remote (not compatible with the A7RIII), and more remote controls with Sony’s phone app. All that said, the A7RIII has: a quieter shutter, and is more forgiving when the settings are not correct, and may be better for less experienced photographers. The 60 megapixel of the A7RIV shows motion blur much easier than the 42 megapixel sensor, so the shutter speed must be higher. The image is more susceptible to noise, especially in shadow areas when under exposed, and the depth of field is effectively shallower because you can see out of focus areas easier when zoomed into 100%.
I’m running the 6400 and 6700 love them
Thanks for this, I thought I knew the sony lines, but this was educational!
well done Comparisson - thank you!
I bought S5iiX as my first camera for hybrid shooting, maybe 60% video. I choose Lumix mostly because of big discounts and a free gift. I got 50, 85mm f1.8 + 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 lenses and camera body brand new for just £2389. My previous considerations for the camera was Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2, Sony A7 IV, A6700, ZV-E1. Choosing my firstt camera WAS SO FREAKING HARD. I went up the budget, because initially I was expecting to spend £1500...
Congrats. The Lumix S5IIx is amazing and was something I considered for upgrading after 9 years of A7RII (though I ended up with the Nikon Z8) - the excellent stabilization and video features (eg: open gate), combined with good stills makes the Lumix it a relative steal at $1200 USD in my personal opinion.
Hi, I have a Sony A7iv camera and I use two SD cards on my A7iv, slot 1 for videos and slot 2 for photos. How to switch SD cards to view my videos and photos on the camera? I won’t be able to view my photos if I shoot videos and the same goes when I shoot photos. Thanks!
Great overview Jason! Doesn’t make the choice easier, but at least everyone knows which model stands for 😅 Like you and a lot of other people I’m waiting for the RX1RIII and based on the X100 and Leica Q lineup and high demand, that RX would sell well even at 4000$. But my guess is that Sony somehow fears that camera could cannibalize their lens sales, specifically the GM sales 🤔 And an even more unicorn wish would be a retro camera like Nikon Zf, Fujifilm etc. 😅. Sony bought Minolta back then, but that won’t happen i guess.
For a normal budget person like me. I personally think 33 megapixel is enough for photography shoot out for client and event support. Even wedding photos, because no one will be printing a large billboard print size. All be viewing it on mobile devices and tablets. So a7IV is good to go, and I pair it with a ZV-E1 for low light video. Short video shot for social media only. It's all about tiktok, reals, and stories now. Else can pair with a7RIV for photos 61 megapixel and ZV-E1 for low light video shoot. That's me :)
I own the old Fuji X-T10 and want to switch to Sony full frame, but my wife doesn’t allow me. She told me to go all the way to Leica. Either I should be happy because she wants the best camera (I mostly shoot photos of her), or should I be frustrated because those Leica cameras are still out of reach for my budget. 😅
Very well explained since I'm a Sony fan.. the a1's priced was insane 😳 can buy second hand civic low model with add some extra cash😂
Go for the Lumix 5sIIx
What's the small red/black disk attached to the cameras?
Do you think a6000 is a good first buy on a budget?
Hi, I'm starting to takes sports photos, I'm taking them with a A6400 because that's what I have at this moment. I want to upgrade to full frame, but I don't have the budget for an A1 or A9. Which camera would you recommend?
If you don’t mind pre own gear, look into a used a9 the original one. It’s about 1500 on KEH and they have a great return policy if you don’t like it!
I got a nex 5 any suggestions for me to upgrade?
The most amazing and clear description of the Sony cameras
I still have my A7III and I think it still for me. The only think I don't like is the flexibility of the monitor
I love how NOW the line is "The a7RIV wasn't a significant update over the a7RIII" but back then most reviews were like "The a7RIII is now a USELESS BRICK, get the a7RIV!!! MOAR MEGAPIXELS!!!!!!1!!!!!" I mean, I get it, gotta push sales for Sony, it still makes me laugh though.
This is a master piece.
i bought not one but two different A7R 5's thsi past week, both came out of the box from sony with dead pixels in the sensors. i DO NOT recommend a7r v to ANYONE. (at least not until they figure that out)
What happen to the sony a7CR in the thumbnail of the video🤣🤣
3:52 - cit. "Bigger sensor means we get more background blur" Could you please explain why this is true? Thank you
Because of longer focal length compared to smaller sensor cameras.
@@cameraprepper7938 Thank you for your answer. It is still not really clear to me how that is physically possible. TLDR; It seems that this sentence is misleading as it will require other parameters to be affected, and sensor size alone would not make a difference. Here is my analysis, please let me know if I am missing something: Background blur depends on depth of fields (the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects giving a focused image) which depends on focal lenght. Focal lenght is the distance between the centre of a lens (or curved mirror) and its focus, therefore it does not depend on sensor size. Altought in Photography it is often said that using smaller sensor increases the focal lenght, it does not seems to be the truth physically, as we are just applying a crop to what would be the full-size sensor. We are not actually changing the focal length (50mm lens remains a 50mm lens even on a APS-C sensor, we are just adding a crop to its image result). Here is an interesting article that talks about this (in photography terms): fstoppers.com/education/understanding-how-sensor-size-affects-depth-field-312599
The Evee analogy 🤣
But I’ve already bought so many before I watched this!! Can I still watch this?
😂😂😂 you're a pro, you don't need to watch this clip!
No, get out! 🚪
@@JasonVong 😎
the fx30 is waaaay on sale right now. like 200$ off list price
Sony a7 cii ?
The way you said "trust me" about picking the A7CR over the A7Cii makes it sound like the Cii isn't very good?
Ah! Not my intention to downplay the a7C II. It's great! I just meant if anyone's got the budget for the a7C R to just get that over the a7C II. Less crop in 4K60p and more MP. I dove into more details in my review video.
@@JasonVong I have the Cii, but I've been second guessing my choice over the CR ever since. And this made me wonder if I really am missing out! Thanks for replying
Hopefully they unlock hdmi so Sony cameras can export higher than 4k60 over hdmi to an atomos etc. Sucks owning an A1 and it can’t export 8k. :/ Oh yeah… and it’d be great if Sony did more firmware updates to add features, fix issues rather than holding off and trying to sell us the next version.
this is so so helpful! i’ve been thinking of switching to song for a while now so this made it super easy to figure out what works for me! i think i’m going to get the zv-10!😊
ah, was hoping you would cover the zv-e1
I did though
please do this but for fujifilm
lol I can only do this because i've used sony for years. Fuji. I only know X100VI 🫣 but maybe I can partner with someone to make a fuji one
that Sony A7s is out in 2013, DXO mark don't rate it higher than other ASPC cameras such as the 2015 Nikon D7200 24 mpix ( I think that has a sony sensor and slightly better performance ) all this camera stuff is confusing WE NEED YOU!
What a great video
There's so many!
rx1r ii my dream camera, i coudn't justify the astronomical price
Here i am with ol x3000r when everyone got expensive ones 😢
Get the a7iv 🤞🏽
why is the FX 3 titled as FX 9 in the Thumbnail?
🤭
Thank you very much Jason for a brief but very informative video on SONY cameras. I'm a Nikon man and started taking photos since long. I used Nikon FM2 film camera along with two other, one is Pentax K1000, a SLR and Yashica Electro 35. Then I switched over to Nikon DSLR. My first Nikon DSLR was D80, then D300s and at present I use D810. with six good lenses. Now I want to switchover to SONY mirrorless. Which model of SONY would be best for me? Thanks.
Where is a7c ?
The flagship camera can’t do animal-eye AF in video when the entry level cameras can lol
Jus want to settle with an a74 but need to buy a new MacBook m3pro😢
Evee analogy is solid
Gotta buy them 'all.
very nice, but why don't you discus image quality, as they are actually taking images. flip screens touch screens etc are not so relevant as picture quality.
13:57 - For a moment there, I thought I saw SIMP before realizing it was 51 MP.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to make a mention 😂😂
