I Applied HIGH VOLTAGE to Electric Toys! #3 (DANGEROUS)
In this video, I connected some electric toys to the WANPTEK DC power supply using wires. I continuously applied increasing voltage to the toys, starting from 5V and going up to 30V. Increasing voltage results in the generation of larger current in the motor, leading to an increase in torque and speed. The resulting effects were both exaggerated and humorous. (Easter Egg at the End)

  • I love how the audio circuits of most toys predictably die once applied double the voltage they were designed for. The moving parts keep going till up to 6 times the voltage though. 😂

    • Makes sense - note the much higher current while powering on? If a child holds the arm fixed, which kids often do, the entire motor stops moving and becomes ohmic. And the toy sure should not blow up in flames and smoke when that happens. So yes, the motors in such toys are quite surely designed for higher load than what is used in the toy. Thus, double or triple voltage is just fine for the motor as long as nobody blocks it, just the mechanical parts may start giving up.

    • I think it's probably because most toys like these are most likely built with pretty cheap speakers that were never designed to withstand such a voltage.

    • @@user-zh2wl2sl2u Speakers can too. if Voltage goes up and the current goes up, the Wattage goes up and if it exceeds it's rated wattage it can burn out the speaker. The Chips will go before the Speaker does though

    • It depends if the toy is supposed to run on 4 AA batteries. A standard AA battery runs at 1.2V so 4 would usually run at 4.8V at full charge. This would lower as the batteries lose charge. I'd guess some of the toys are designed to be run at 5V.

  • This video reminded me: when I was younger, my brothers and I would try to fit a smaller battery/less batteries than required into toys with voice boxes. This would provide less electricity than needed, and usually made the toy sound weird and funny. We would do this all the time, usually with hilarious results! It would be fun to see a series like that, or to under-supply the toys before you blow out the voice box if you do another video!

    • Our favorite was a singing Christmas ornament. If it sensed someone going by, it would say something like "hey, you! Over here! Somebody hung me up here, and now I'm, well:" then sing Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. When we put smaller batteries in it, the voice went from high and squeaky to sounding like darth vader. It also had flashing red and green lights in it's eyes and mouth, making it all the more creepy. As a prank, we would usually hang it up in a dark room at night and wait for a victim to walk by. Good, fun memories :-)

    • Sadly, that would no longer work. Older toys used analog media, which did mean that lower voltages resulted in slower playback speeds and lower pitch (and vice-versa); these digital toys just play whatever digital files they have stored in there, as long as those circuits don’t get fried (which they quickly and inevitably do).

    • They're past the age when noise boxes were made with tiny record players or magnetic tapes. Nowadays it's usually some fixed clockspeed voice chip connected to a speaker.

  • As amazing as the skeleton getting flung into the void was, I have to comment how the jump rope toy has to be the smartest toy in the experiment, and I'm not saying that a Peppa Pig jump roping to some weird remix of Witch Doctor in itself is a smart toy, but more so the fact it knows to try to pull off the wires or tangle itself up to stop, it's self aware enough to try to end the experiment lol
