Wasn’t the best played series. Very sloppy by the Bruins.
This entire postseason deserves a deep rewind in a couple of years
It absolutely does and it's only the first round.
iT WILL BE YEARS AND YEARS BEFORE THE BRUINS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS AGAIN, AND SWEPT AGAIN
Boston blew it. They did not play like they wanted to win. They were playing not to lose. As for Florida, give them credit. They were the hunger team, and they wanted it more. I had a feeling when Florida tied it that Florida was going to win the game.
I feel like A lot of it was over confidence. I feel like they underestimated how good the panthers actually are. I feel like even if bruins did play like they wanted to win then it still would be a tight series not saying the bruins would win. This is also coming from a bruins fan.
Looked like a completely different team out there. They couldn't even complete simple passes to each other...just so many turnovers that led to goals. The defense was god awful this series, looked slow and couldnt get rid of the puck, where was McAvoy and Lindholm?! Just laughable that this historic season ends with 1 minute left in the 3rd....
Yeah something felt a little off with them, not sure if it was just nerves/pressure or if the stomach bug that was going through their lineup was still affecting some of them but they did seem slow and uncoordinated.
The huge problem of being a heavy favorite in the playoffs. The pressure is too heavy. It's infinitely better to be an underdog. You can play loose and enjoy the experience more. My Sharks always underachieved when they were favorites. Then, when they were underdogs in 2016, they went all the way to the Final.
THIS. “they did not play like they wanted to win. they were playing not to lose” is exactly how i’d put it. heartbreaking as a bruins fan

but what for? the team was doing well without him and Krejčí. They were both supposed to be given rest at least for the panthers series. This is completely on Montgomery including benching Grzelczyk and not bringing Swayman after Ullmark imploded.
That was a mistake and might of cost the series. I've had a herniated disc and trust me, there is no way that he was better than someone like Foligno who was heatlhy with that injury.
Went out there banged up to play for his father suffering cancer, only to be in the biggest choke of the decade. Nobody wants to see things fail like that for a player nearing the end of his career. Respect.
Keep in mind that the panthers were president cup winners last year and were bounced early. Playoff hockey is a much different sport that has shown to be more successful for got nothing to lose teams and the pressure of living up to expectations inevitably leads to untimely exits.

Always impresses me the number of bandwagon casuals that hop in at the end of a 1st place season with arrogant playoff predictions for their team, and then end up being super surprised. It's almost always a case of the more talented team facing another that's been playing important games for at least 4 weeks just to extend their season. With the amount of parity in the league these days, the skill advantage of a 1st place finisher is rarely enough to overcome another team that's already been pressure tested.

Everyone seems to agree there are two seasons: the regular season & the Stanley Cup playoffs. Over the course of 82 games we find out who is the best team in hockey (President's Trophy). Of the sixteen teams that make up the playoff contenders one is left standing at the end...could be any one of those. They get to hoist the Cup. Frankly, it's no different than the NFL or MLB. Wildcard teams are spoilers, and often good at it. Few remember Championship winners. 65 wins may be with us a long, long time. Can't deny they choked though.
I said before the series that Boston’s gonna drop off on the first round. My friends laughed at me but playoffs are different than regular season. It’s hard to be a front runner.
Bingo. Playoffs is totally different than the regular season. Just because they were number one in their division don’t mean jack squat come playoff time. Many teams who were number one have been kicked out in the first round. Usually it’s because they get cocky and think that they can’t get eliminated so they play very sloppy. Just look at Colorado. Won the Stanley Cup last year and also got knocked out in the first round. Oh well. I hope my Stars win the cup this year. It’s been too long.
There was one panelist that picked the panther (all the other panelists shook they heads in disbelief of his pick) but he explained his pick & didn’t sound so dumb, now I guess he is a hockey genius
Florida played a really good forecheck and put pressure on their team at every chance they got, florida played the mental game well and thats what ultimately pushed them past the finish line 1st
It's the President's Trophy curse and choke. As a Habs fan, I love it.
We are in a parallel universe rn I’m convinced
Someone asked John Cooper in January what happened when the Lightning set the Record and got swept.Cooper said the problem with them being so dominant in the Regular season was they did not play a meaningful game for 2 months were a wildcard team like Columbus and Now Florida are playing meaningful playoff hockey for 2 months till the last day of the season
Regular season and the playoffs are so different.
Even tho this loss was bitter for me and other bruins fans and the Bruins team, Florida played harder in OT. I’ve been a Bruin fan since 70-71. They had a great year.
This is the year of the underdog. Leafs, Panthers, and now the Kraken. I believe the Leafs will take the cup this year!
The oilers in 82 losing to the kings first round in my mind is a bigger upset Oilers - 111 points including 48 wins 417 goals as a team - 212 pts off of Gretzky including 92 goals and 120 assists Kings- 63 points including just 24 wins 314 goals and a negative differential of -55 while the oilers had a +122 goal differential The series included Edmonton surrending 10 goals in game 1, blowing a 5-0 lead in 23 minutes and losing in game 3 and finally losing 7-4 in game 5 to lose in rd 1
I don’t remember if it was u who said it or someone else but I remember on one video there was a moment that I liked the bruins had the greatest regular seasons but it can’t be complete without winning a Cup and the bruins blew it sadly the reality is slowly downing on them there old time veterans are probably gone this year with new teams or retirements like u said this was probably the last time with this core
The rat Marchand said it…
my roommate is a bruins fan, I’ve been watching basically every bruins game for the past couple years even went to a game, that last goal to tie it up with an empty net was so unacceptable, it was like they just laid down and gave up for no reason. Maybe they were tired, maybe they were unenthusiastic, but they looked like they didn’t want to win bad enough which is odd because they usually dominate.
The Panthers had nothing to lose or prove and had nobody picking them in this series. Your right, Boston let the expectations get to them big time. They were too relaxed, VERY SLOPPY and nonchalant when supposed to be laser focused and sharp in the playoffs.
From a panthers and Bruins perspective that must have felt equal to watching the perfect storm only on ice in Bostons case
The most legit playoff playing panther team ever. Even when they made the cup in the 90's, I feel that this team (with Chucky) has got more BITE!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an NHL team unable to pass the puck to each other. I lost count of how many times in game 7 the bruins passed it so cleanly right to the other team with no one else around for a turnover

any player and manager will say the same thing: the playoffs is a new season don't think that the regular season's results or performance can be translated to the playoffs. and we had a great example here about this mantra.
Well, the Boston Bruins now know how it feels like to be the 2012 Vancouver Canucks
I think the Bruins collapse against the Flyers in 2010, and the Lightning being swept by the Blue Jackets in 2019 were bigger chokes than this.
2019 Lightning was worse, 2010 Bruins had massive injury problems (starting goalie was out for the playoffs and many more)
Since Bergeron came back to ice, it went down with Boston during playoff.
Changing of the guard for sure. Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston, Tampa and maybe Colorado... this playoffs is wide open.

Not to say I called it, but I called it. I knew even before the playoffs started that Boston would leave early. The bruins were shut down by Florida on some occasions but Boston eventually ruined themselves and didn’t play with fight like Florida did.
I'd argue that Boston's choke against Philly in '10 was worse, as it was a reverse sweep. Yet, oddly, everyone seems to have forgotten about it in the 13 years since.

As a Leafs fan, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed we won't get to play Boston in the second round. But hey, you take what you get.
I’m not surprised actually. How many times have we seen President Trophy winning teams go out first round before. It’s almost like they use up everything they had in the regular season and when the playoffs come there’s nothing left in the tank mentally and physically. Maybe there’s something to be said about not pushing too hard for wins in the regular season as long as you can make the playoffs. I also think starting on the road is more of an advantage over home ice.

Sergei Bobrovsky has been the goalie for the past two major playoff upsets: 2019 on CLB vs TB 2023 on FLA vs BOS Overall, Bobrovsky has not lived up to his massive contract. His career went downhill almost immediately after joining FLA. That said, if he backstops FLA to a Stanley Cup, FLA fans wouldn't even care about that anymore.
I've said it from the beginning: The Bruins GM and Coaching staff made a major mistake of changing the winning formula of rotating their dynamic duo goaltenders by going with Ullmark as their one and only. You may point out that the B's unraveled as a team in the last three games, but that wouldn't have happened if they had continued their winning formula of shared responsibility, workload, and FUN that the whole team was enjoying going into this ill-fated series. The management and coaching staff lost it by getting too insecure and controlling, which made them go with the "tried and true", which turned out to be the gut punch that took the breath out of the team effort...

I think this is on par, or even a bigger upset than the 1993 Islanders defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins.
That's a tough call. That penguins team was stacked with hall of famers and were coming off 2 straight Stanley cups. I'm pretty sure that's the season Mario lemieux had 160 points in 60 games. And that Islanders team wasn't anywhere near as good as this panthers team. Although in this series you never had a points disparity as large. So this one might be the biggest upset ever.
Here's the thing. Boston was consistal entire season. They were fierce. But what nobody is realizing is that towards the end of the season, the panthers were one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs. And they were the only team to beat the bruins twice I believe. And then there's the presidents trophies curse. I'm not a superstitious guy, but I think that trophy makes a team arrogant and complacent. Panthers were hungry and scrappy. But hands down to both teams, that was one of the best series I've ever witnessed.

The NHL is extremely competitive from top to bottom, every year. You see more upsets in the NHL by much lower seeded teams than any other sport. I know the Panthers barely made the playoffs this year, but again, it's a highly competitive/balanced league and people seem to forget the Panthers won the President's Trophy just last year. It's not like this was some scrub team pulling a 16-1 upset in March Madness. Florida is legit.
