Electronic Music was all about sampling back in the 50s, decade before first commercial synthesizers hit the market. I'm into Electronic Music for a while, and never heard that Yello did some actual impact on the genre (apart from being great musicians). The only artists who build foundations for electronic dance music were Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder (and Yellow Magic Orchestra to smaller scale). These were the ones whos tracks made in the 70s, later inspired Electro, House and Techno pioneering artists. I know that not just from wikipedia but also from interviews of such guys like Afrika Bambaataa or Juan Atkins (who debuted in the industry around same time as Yello). BTW You know who also were masters of sampling in the 80s? Art Of Noise, Herbie Hancock and Frank fuckin Zappa. Yello wasn't only one.

You cant make a jazz, dance, rap pop song Yello: hold my toblerone
Also featuring a light-hearted comedic music video featuring footage of real car crashes.
It's the Swiss Army Knife of songs
Generally, you just dump all the genres and call it "crossover". See modern bands like Kontrust for other examples of such delightfully blended genres.
Okay, but I bet you can't incorporate Hawaiian-style slide guitar into that song. Yello: hold my fondue
@@skiing43degreesnorth The most accurate comment on YT.
One of the musical masterpieces to come out of the '80s. Yello was years ahead of their time since this sounds like something Fat Boy Slim would make in the late '90s or early '00s.
Fatboy Slim literally said (in an interview) Yello influenced his music, A LOT
Way, far away ahead ! 20 years at least !
'80s
I am agreed
This track is still a masterpiece. All well ballanced, bass line, sax, vocals and drums. Not to mention the genius who directed that awsome videoclip.
Not to mention the screaming V8s!
The long version from the album is even better!

These guys weren't just light years ahead of the industry when this was made, they will always be lightyears ahead of anything coming. The genre of this song is hard to describe. A mix of pop, jazz, electronic, elevated to the form of art. Also humorous video
Fuck genre its music beautiful music

When I was a kid we had an old VHS with a bunch of Yello music videos.. I used to watch it over and over to get lost in that world... In my 20s now and I can't believe so few people of my generation know about this band who were completely influential on modern music!!
This song was my childhood cause my dad would listen to this while driving and basically whenever he had time and threw a video I watched I got reminded of this masterpiece and had the best and most wholesome flashback ever
I have exactly the same memory. I remember myself watching that VHS over and over again :) Greetings from Turkey!
Todd In The Shadows has just done a "One Hit Wonderland" video essay on them s hopefully they'll get the props they deserve.
And you can still see this band occasionally. I popped over to Hamburg to see a Yello concert a few Decembers ago. I also actually met Dieter Meier in Camden in north London a few years before then, when he was performing a few jazz numbers at a venue there. Nice guy.

These guys were'nt just muscians, they were artists and the work and visuals they create are solid in history.
You could say they're history's solid pleasure.

+GuildF40 This is the first Electronica/Rave
You're joking right? At the time Rave music already existed. It was called Acid House.
B1SCOOP BTW I know Yellow were not he only one. Thanks for the reply. Chill the fuck out
I haven't saw so passive-agressive comment in a while:)
I used to work at a horse racetrack where this song was the build up before every race. Suddenly at my dads 50 year anniversary I realized it was made by his favorite band.
Thanks dad for showing me this when I was a kid!

love the story behind this band. A keyboardist singer guy Boris and his recording dude Carlos were all like "we need a singer" and then they were all like "how about a millionaire industrialist gambler?" and that's how THE Dieter Meier got into electronic instrumental music.
Yello, the most creative, eclectic and funny band. You can find multiple styles on their songs, even Hawaiian music at 1:22.

Years ago (early 90's) it was used as a jingle in Eurosport, mostly when they show what will come next hour by hour.

First time I heard this was in Nuns on the Run
This track was used for the skating sequences in the movie The Cutting Edge
How has this not been in my life until now?
I am really happy that i was a kid when MTV had the good shit like this.
That guy with the moustache is a fucking don
+BoboDoboRobo He's actually a millionare
It's a joke: "Millionaire Industrialist". Refer to any adventure film/radio show/comic book from 1930's-1960's.
The one with the suit and the biggest Whitworth spanner I have ever seen is certainly doing a good Graham Hill impression
BoboDoboRobo Dieter Meier
no Dieter Meier (the one with the larger mustache) really was a millionaire business man before he joined Yello. I don't think he had any musical background. Unless what I've read is wrong. The other one is Borris Blank
This song scared the shit out of me when I was a little kid.
The one I was scared of was "In the army now" Status Quo lol

I heard this mixed in a club a few years ago. It blew peoples minds. No one except me he heard it before.
These guys don't look at all like you're typical singer/songwriters. Damn they write some cool shit.
Really ahead of their time - basically created EDM
@Freddie faulig EDM ist just any Electronic Music you can dance to. It's an umbrella term and literally means electronic dance Music. Since this electronic music and you can dance to it it's EDM. I just hate when people reduce EDM to commercial radio music, it's so much more than that and comes in many flavours, some you might hate, some you might love. That's personal preference.
This is still lightyears ahead of modern EDM
Edm was around before this
I love the song 2020
