I learned this method from my dad when redoing the sparkplug wires on my ford ranger when the wiring harness broke
Mechanics have been doing this with spark plug wires for years.
Its just a tip but a good one

But why separate them
So they don't get tangled up :>
You don't really need that in most cases. Separation is "must do" when cables are gonna work under heavy load. Unseparated may overheat and cause fire.
