    • ​@@pex1111Because varnish doesn't go on metal. So instead of needing to clean it all off of the metal afterwards, just varnish it before installing the bits and pieces. Saves time and looks cleaner. Also some varnishes can hurt some metals.

    • As a hobby blacksmith for nearly a decade, those look handmade...and incredibly simple to make. I forged a traditional socket handled woodworking bevel back chisel with laminated construction (mild steel with an old file for the cutting end). Never thought to forge simple carving chisels but then again I don't do much carving.

    • Probably just a stiff species of reed. That's what most of the world used until modern materials were made. It mostly Europeans & East Asians that needed heavier arrows because of their need to shoot through plates of metal. Reeds and are literally the only thing in nature of the right size & shape that doesn't need to be straightened before getting made into an arrow.

  • i really enjoyed watching this video. the wood used is gorgeous there are a few folks saying what type it is but would really love to know 100%. the minute he started applying stuff to the woods finish i though, well i wouldn’t have done that… but once he was done it looked amazing! still wood look great unfinished too❤

    • 100% purpleheart, it'll turn brown over time though and many are very sensitive to the dust. Tough wood too.

    • My best guess is that the geometry & dimensions were something he pulled out of his derriere. Good a way as any of designing something like this

  • Neat design, though could be made far more powerful by making the handle longer so that longer elastic bands could be used and pre tensioning them so that they continue accelerating the projectile over an extended distance. A brace similar to a wrist rocket would allow for greater tension to be applied.

    • Im gonna guess bloodwood. It’s the only one I’m finding that matches the before and after of the wood in the video, and is found on non-English speaking countries. (Figure they don’t speak English, since I haven’t found any actual reply to this question by the artist, just likes, lol) Someone else guessed Rengas (tiger wood)- but i don’t see the color variation Rengas has. Just google dark red wood- there are quite a few varieties worldwide.

    • You have to go to a lumber mill to get specialty wood. Alternatively you could find someone who specializes in exotic woods called a lumber distributor. It's the easiest to find wood like this online but you'll have to specify how much wood you'd want. Just go to google and type in exotic hardwood near me I am sure tons of results will show up for you!
