Mitch is by far the favourite to win going the extra mile, with his no stone unturned protocol. While it seems Tom is only doing the bare minimum with the typical big lifts like Deadlift and overhead press + a few strongman events.

    • @Dracony234 WSM just has the title. They are running on their legacy but the other comps are definitely passing. WSM doesn't even do a live viewing! Not even PPV! All the other shows you are able to watch live. That alone will lead to the Arnold, Shaw, or Rogue passing it in prestige.

  • The other thing with not announcing the events is it limits how much the athletes can engage with the fan base. Strongman is way more fun in the build up when there's some back and forth between athletes, it can be playful or respectful rather than being "beef" too. The back and forth between Mitch and Evan was great fun for example. Or the athletes being able to publicly speculate about how they think they'll stack up in events. It all helps build hype!

The sport grows when you livestream an event with good quality and coverage. I paid for the Shaw livestream because it was reasonable in price and the quality was pretty good. WSM needs to live stream everything and step up the quality. Doing that will grow the crowds and ticket sales in person. That’s my thoughts.

  • Thanks for the news - though some of them are sad 😓 At this point I feel WSM has nothing going for them other than the WSM-name. The actual world's strongest man is the winner of the Arnold's or Rogue Invitational. Heck, even the Shaw Classic is a much MUCH better show. Even though I hated the whole IFSA-conflict back in the day Rogue should simply make a "World's Strongest Athlete"-competition. It should go five groups of six athletes with 5 qualifying events over two days. No stone-off - just two "lucky losers" so 12 athletes make it to the finals (number #1 and #2 from each group and the two number #3 with the most points). The final should be eight events over two or three days. In general there should be proper facilities and breaks for the athletes in order to avoid freak injuries as much as possible. And make it a public stream like Rogue do with their other events. The sport is evolving so much these years - don't let WSM devolve it again. Sorry for ranting! 😅

  • WSM slowly becoming a second tier comp compared to the Arnold’s and rogue invitational. They need to actually broadcast it, advertise it, book a stadium, not just some field or stretch of beach

  • Agree! Excellent point. Where's Colin Bryce and all the WSM organizers and promoters??! They should be out here every day on KZhead banging the drum to get everyone hyped up for the show. Instead they're as silent as a mouse. Really a poorly run and promoted event.

    @bt2476@bt2476Ай бұрын
    • Afaik, Colin (and Darren) are only responsible for organising the equipment and events on the ground. They dont have anything to do with the promotion, choosing how it's run etc

  • Honestly I think it's good that WSM is not having as much prestige as before. They should not be able to rely on their brand as much as they have so far done. It will be better for the athletes in the long run to be able to focus where the prize money is.

  • Aw damn. I've been waiting patiently for peak Mateusz and Martins to blow us away. Always such terribly bad luck. 😢 I'm no marketing genius, but it's standard practice to announce athletes and events along with a link to ticket sales, and keep reposting that over and over on all major platforms. That's how live shows work. What are they doing? If they don't, someone else who's not under NDA will.

    @espenstoro@espenstoroАй бұрын
    • Sadly I think Martins and Mateusz are both passed their prime. All of their injuries and bad luck just reinforces that for me.

  • I share your frustration for WSM social media presence. Your example here of the playing of the Brian and Derek Poundstone videos lately instead of hyping the upcoming comp was spot on. The repetitive videos, the lack of knowing athlete bios, etc It’s like the person doing the postings is given finite material to work with and no opportunity to grow or think out of the box. Is this really the public face they want to have? Do they have zero budget for marketing? Or do they just have the wrong people managing? Clearly they are doing just enough to warrant their tv contract renewals. So then they have no incentive to make real changes.

  • The moment people don’t go to WSM because they just can’t be asked is the moment it becomes a second rate event. The only thing keeping WSM the top event is the history of the event and the prestige that generates, once people no longer care about that it’s done

  • I'm so incredibly bummed that Mateusz got injured again. I also wonder why he is so injury prone, if he just pushes himself too much, or what. When he doesn't participate, I just lose interest in strongman somewhat. :( Martins missing out on World's is a huge bummer too.

  • I love seeing LOZ get fired up and voice his frustrations with WSM...and as a big fan of said sport, I 100% wholeheartedly agree. WSM need to pull their heads out of their asses and start progressing again, instead of regressing. It's 2024, zero excuse for such crap. They don't livestream it, they don't release events till last minute, they don't do well with invites and handling withdraws, etc etc. They have so much they need to work on and fix; for both the athletes and us fans.

  • I litteraly had a verbal reaction "goddammid" to hearing about Mateusz being injured, i hope he wont be one of those world level athlete's that just through unlucky injuries doesnt become the #1 in their sport, the guy truely deserves a win, but saying that, all the guys that train hard deserve to win, its just this guy is such a hard worker and so hard on himself. Dangid Mateusz, poor lad.
