tbf, they are last in the final, they weren't last in all the previous acts of the contest. They managed to be first in national selection, pass a first selection between countries, pass the semi finals and then come last in the last evening. It's still the 26th best of the possible competitors of that year

It takes a lot of talent to do what she is doing, but you still need to be to do it all live with at least some kind of stage presence. With that said I hope she will come back for the next ESC's nfs and maybe learn from 2023.

Croatia's song was such a banger. Perfect mix of aggression and fun, and most importantly, it was catchy. Norway's song had no hook imo, and the band sounded like they were riding the wave of Sempiternal by BMTH, which is 11 years old at this point. Stale. From someone who was completely new to both acts, there was no competition. Sorry if that sounds harsh 😂 Just my opinion.
@@Chris_Tinacan oh yeah don’t get me wrong Norway’s performance didn’t touch Croatia. Maybe it’s because I like seeing alternative acts in Eurovision clouding my ears but personally I can think of at least 5 acts off the top of my head that weren’t close to Norway. I found it quite fun, the last minute was beautiful to me, vocals were wailing a little too much which is why I don’t rate it all that highly. The climax carried the song for me, obviously didn’t carry it very far but you know what I mean 😂

Norway's track had a serious weak point. The chorus... It was very "empty".
The old ones are so classical. No weird staging, uniforms, just a signer and their voice

UK should've been last this year. Lord of the Lost is climbing my rankings of this year and is currently sitting in my top 15 (including songs that didnt make it to the finals).

As a German I don't care that we got last. This besides 2018 was the first time in 10 years that we got to be exited for our result as unlike the last couple years our last place this year was much more unexpected! I am very proud of Lord of the Lost! Not only did they bring an excellent performance on stage but they also showed so much love and engagement for the contest! They really couldn't have done a better job! Sure, the last place stinks, but at the end it's just a number and it doesn't change how much they slayed!
And they’re touring with Iron Maiden as well! There is clearly plenty of demand for them! I personally love them too.

Eurovision is seriously weird because the vast majority of these songs are actually really good! Especially the ones before the early 2000s.
The very early stuff I didn't care about, because it's entirely outside of my taste in music. That phase from 2000 to 2014 was downright painful at times though.

What great songs and great singers. And the fantastic orchestrations, especially in the early years when everything was still played live. You mustn't forget that just taking part in this competition requires a lot of skill. And behind every singer is a large group that has chosen them to be there.

It was so robbed tho. Don’t get why it did so badly, as with many of their earlier entries. It really seemed like juries had a bias against Portugal 🇵🇹 at the time because songs like that performed by other countries would do so much better. It is actually kind of amazing now they are such a jury powerhouse seeing that they keep doing similar things to what they have pretty much always done. They used to be so underrated, glad they aren’t any more. They are honestly among my fave countries in Eurovision as they are so genuinely themselves and do so the best quality consistently (unlike others).

So many of the last place songs are some of my favourite ESC songs ever. Most are so undeserved! There are so many I listen to regularly! I wasn’t alive to watch the majority of them, but if I had the ability to do so at the time, I would 100% have voted for them 😭 Some of them I love so much that even as a native English speaker I have memorised their lyrics to sing along, such as Kun kello käy and Sarkim Sevgi Üstüne. Literally underrated as hell.

I was there in Latvia when UK got zero in 2003 - I met them. She was coked up to her eyeballs. He tried to save the performance but she was so off key it stood out so much!
Certainly one of the worst performances ever. Only Madonna was more off key.

1974 Paulo de carvalho - E depois do Adeus. This last place is an anthem for the 74 Portuguese Revolution. The song is beautiful with an unbelievable number of covers. One of your best all-time songs.

Lord of the Lost is one of the most growing bands in metal right now. It goes to show Eurovision has no idea about good music.
Eurovision did award Lordi 1st place in 2006. They are super metal, but I get your point. They mainly vote for pop and singer/song writer stuff, at least when it comes to straight music acts.

One song that became last but is important in a historical context is: Paulo de Carvalho's song “E Depois do Adeus” - "The song's airing on 24 April 1974 at 10:55 p.m. on Emissores Associados de Lisboa Radio Station, was one of the two secret signals which alerted the rebel captains and soldiers to begin the Carnation Revolution.". Brandenburger Tor by Ketil Stokkan didn't deserve to be last because it did reference in its lyrics the fall of the Berin Wall. Aside from these two, the other songs from the old era pre-1968 are all pretty and aftet that, beside a few novety songs, most were OK. So I think they didn't get many points because they were all a little forgettable. It's still a mystery to me what Embers by James Newman does there.
I went to the Blood and glitter tour, that was a great concert. Love that German industrial vibe with a cabaret touch.

Because everything was quality back then. Nobody would send an entry that didn’t aspire to the songbook standards of the day. It’s noticable how it started to change during the later 60s when it turned more towards light hearted, poppy, boom boom stuff.
In the first place: someone has to end last even if there are only a few countries in the competitian In the second place: singers were singing in their home language which is a problem when you are norwegian, dutch/Belgian or (shortly after the war) German or Austrian. In the third place: some of the best songs ever did not win: Volare (Nel blu...), Gente di mare, I trene di tozeur just to mention a few. Abba's ring ring did not even qualify!

Belgium 1993, Finland 1996, Portugal 1997, Belgium 2000, Norway 2001 and 2012, France 2014, Germany 2015, 2016 and 2023 all good songs in my opinion.

Vesa-Matti Loiri might've losen eurovision, but he wasn't hated. He died loved. He enjoyed his life, althought he had bad moments too. He isn't forgotten. In Finland there is still news about him sometimes. Vesku was one of best finnish singers of all the time.

The 1957-1998 ones are truly gold. But I do like to listen to the 2022 as well, the vibe of the song is somehow very nostalgic and therefore enjoyable.

It's a shame because a lot of the time the lowest scoring song isn't bad, far from it. It just ends up being overshadowed by other songs and fan-favorites that year. The fact these songs even made it to the final is an achievement in itself and I hope they felt proud regardless

Omg 2018 Portugal! I dont remember that song, but man I was intrigued, when I heard it now. It sounds amazing to me ❤ Sometimes I think good songs drowns in the overwhelm of songs! There are fare more songs that I kinda like, then dislike on this list! Maybe they were to similar to known songs, at the time, or not getting enough of our attebtion. But most of these songs I really don't hate!

Wie geil! Hab mir das Video mal genau angeschaut (Danke für deine grandiose Arbeit, dies zusammen zu stellen) und man kann zusammenfassend sagen: Ab 2015 hat Deutschland der Welt irgendwas getan! Seit 2015 steht Deutschland IMMER auf einem der hinteren drei Ränge (Ausnahme 2018). Oft sogar ganz unten. Und dabei ist es völlig schnuppe, ob Soft-Pop, Ballade oder Goth-Rock hingeschickt wird. Es funktioniert absolut NICHTS mehr! (Dabei war gerade der Act aus 2023 jetzt nicht so schlecht) Stellt sich mir jetzt die Frage: Warum? Warum wird Deutschland vom Rest Europas so abgewatscht?

How could I have forgotten about the 1973 Belgian entry, and those purple outfits? Hadn’t realised Finland, Belgium and Sweden came last so often, we seem to remember Norway doing it most. Singing in a language few can understand has seldom worked. Did all the last place songs “deserve” it? Certainly not. Did Jemini? Absolutely.
