It's an Alpha hot air engine. The Alphas have a 90° phase, and the displace or cold cylinder runs in a separate cylinder.........as the video shows..... The Beta type have the hot piston and displacer in the same barrel.....

Why hasn't someone scaled this up to something that can power a home? Perhaps with a battery inverter system as I imagine rpm control could be tricky. Combine it with a rocket mass heater so you can burn scrap wood and paper to power a home. That kind of burner can be made very efficient and relatively clean because it burns very hot.

Thanks for the advice, maybe someone will read here and take advantage. Actually RPM could be bigger, but I made the fire small. I did this because with a large flame the temperature was higher and the plastic tube melted and the chamber was depressurized. I did not find material to make a nozzle on a hot syringe.

Thanks. Yes, I rubbed the glass pistons with a pencil. It improves gliding and tightness as well. This is the analogy of dry lubricant.

I made pistons from the plunger of the same syringes. I cut them and glued pieces of thermoelastic connecting rods inside. For better sliding of the pistons, it is worth covering them with pencil graphite.

But this is a lot of work, you need to cut the pistons and also cut the syringes (chambers). And most importantly, if I shorten the syringes for example 2 times, then the attachment will be more difficult to do. The fastening must be rigid and at the same time it is necessary not to break the glass and besides this there should be a place for heating. In short, things get very complicated. And the main question is what is it for? The goal was not to make the most efficient engine. The task was to show how to make the Stirling engine with minimal difficulty.
