15,000 Mile Review - Triumph Bonneville T120 Black
Check out this video for my thoughts after 15k miles with my 2020 Triumph Bonneville T120 Black. I have loved every minute with this motorcycle - from touring multiple states and serving as a daily commuter, ole Bon is a fantastic motorcycle. Stick around to the end of the video to hear my decision about whether or not the Bonnie stays or goes!

I been riding motorcycles for 50+ years. One thing I learned. I wish I kept them all. that being said for the first time I have 2 bikes in my stable , a 2018 Kawasaki Zed 900, and my dream to own a new Harley... just got a 2023 softtail standard(the only Harley I could buy with cash). Now I will be saving for the Triumph 120 chrome collection bobber. You may want to keep that beauty.
Love me a bonny. Had a 1970 custom chopper. Special place in my heart for a Triumph Bonneville.
I bet that was an awesome bike!
Awesome review and big love from Australia 😊😊😊
I moved from a Street Twin to a T120, and absolutely love everything about it. 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🦶
I have one and absolutely love it… fantastic bike.
awesome- well produced video. Thx!
Thank you for watching!
Hi Gene. I agree with your positive comments on the Bonnie, and completely with the suspension comment, as I wish mine had better also. So glad you enjoyed your Bonnie and understand when it's time to move on. I don't know what would replace your Bonnie but I'm guessing something like maybe the 765 Triumph Triple... Good luck with whatever you get, and be sure to bring us along.
I’m obsessed with the street triple 🤤
What a beautiful bike, great review!
Sweet! My first time to your channel. Sorry I haven't been here sooner. Glad YT finally decided to bring you up on my feed. Always love a good Bonnie review. Love the fresh, original and new presentation. Re your desire for something like what you have and have off road ability....you must know about the 1200 XC. Maybe that's your new bike? I'm subscribed! Cheers!
Higher seating position, more sporty engine, better off-road capabilities ? Seems like you bought the wrong bike 🤔
Scrambler
lol yeah totally! People try to change what the bike was meant to be.
Toxic fan boys
Not sure you meant to come of so smug, but yes those are the things she listed in the video in what she now wants in a bike. I don’t think she bought the wrong bike, like she said ‘ it was the perfect bike’. But she has evolved as a rider and is now looking for different things. It’s cool to see how well the bike performed for her as she pushed her and the bikes comfort zones!
I was thinking the same thing. It’s pretty obvious you wouldn’t contemplate buying this bike if you’re ever going off road, lol. An all round bike would probably be the KTM 790r.
This bike has always appealed to me. Ever since I was a small child I thought it was the coolest look.
I just bought a new speed twin love it. 😀
What a lovely Bonnie and that mileage!! Much respect. Am new to your channel, so dropped a subscribe. I look forward to catching up and seeing what you get. Ride safe, LJ
Thanks, LJ!
Great review on the buttery Smooth ride that is Bonnie! Really liked stealing here a few years back a BRO! Cannot wait to see what your next ride is, even though I KNOW DA SECRET!
Thanks Bethie! Keep yo mouth shut 😂😂🙈
After listening to your video, more ride height, a bit more power, off road capability and still a retro look, the 1200 scrambler is ideal. However, if you don't mind losing the retro looks, another bike that has more power, better off road capability and would be perfect for your long road trips.... a tiger 900 rally would be my pick for you 😊👍
ooh the black is nice too !
Great review, good perspective. I’m on an Africa Twin and a Goldwing right now, and I’m headed in the downsizing direction. I had a great test ride on a Triumph Speedmaster, however I think the T120 will be a better choice overall. After being on such a heavy bike like my Wing and a tall bike (my AT) I’m looking for lighter and smaller all the way around. With the 2024 model Africa Twin, the Adv Sports model being more street oriented now, that may be a good choice for you.
Long live Bonn! Nice review, Gene. Based on what you were saying, I could see you going to something like a Royal Enfield Himalayan. Kind of gives you the best of both worlds with on/off road capability.
The Himi is a really fun bike! Good guess 😆
Comfy bumfy gets you a new subscriber 😂 Love my Harley softail but I can’t say I wouldn’t want a Bonny in my life! I grew up 10 miles from the old Triumph factory in Meridan and when it shut l collected some old roof panels from the factory for my boss’s cow shed! 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
As a T120 owner, I'm surprised by what you said about power. I've had significantly more powerful bikes (taller and offroad capable, too, like the Ducati Multistrada 1200S), and I think the T120's power and torque are just about ideal for the street. More powerful bikes tend to simply force you to ride at
Thanks for watching and for the thoughtful comment! I never felt the bonneville had a lack of power, but I wanted more of a pull when I got on the throttle. A little more torque-feeling. I used to own a Street Triple and loved how jumpy that little thing was. I agree with your sentiment about how more powerful bikes only allow you to ride at 50%. That’s why I had the Street Triple over the Speed Triple
bonny is not made for high pushing power... guess you bought the wrong bike?@@OneDownGeneUp
Thank you 😊
Overall the bike is pretty nice I would say...and being comfortable while you ride is king. Plus great looking too. I was looking to get a Triumph but at the moment the price was a tad high. So ended up getting another brand that surprised me some... I've had huge bikes in the past, and found that a lighter and smaller bike is more( at least for me) moving from California to Europe, Spain was a trip skip and a hop for me, total culture shock😲 but it's heaven for motorcycle riders, the secenery is fantabulous really... As for your new pick, even after you talked about the things you liked, and didn't like, it still will be difficult to try and guess on which bike you are getting. There are so many bikes out there that would be great for you, but I can't think which one🤔 Would love to know the lucky bike that gets such a nice rider😊 Safe riding ✌️ And a big hello from Spain, Europe
You’re quite awesome Gene!! Another win for the KZhead algorithm lol. You’re brilliant and quite lovely too, if I may add 😅 Be well and ride safe out there everyone 😎🔥
Great you had fun on your Bonneville for many years. Sounds like it's going to a good home. I'm guessing as you want the quick throttle response of a sport bike and wanna go off road, maybe the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro. Or BMW 1250 GS or R1250 GS. Ps I've just sold my Kwaka VN900 classic and my boulevard C50T and getting either a Fatboy or Street glide.
I love the street glide! Wish I’d have filmed the last time I rode one.
New subscriber...great video! I have a T120 Ace Cafe Edition and love it too.
Gene, you broke my heart! I've told you several times when you're ready to sell, I'm your man! I was hoping to move up from my 2020 Street Twin, but I AM glad you said you sold it to a friend! Now, if you don't purchase another Triumph, I may have to stop watching your videos. 😂
Came here to your channel for the first time to see what you think of the T120 after 15,000 miles.... So curious to see what you're getting next!
Thanks for stopping by, Mark! If you’re considering one, I think you’re gonna love it.
The Bonneville T120 is definitely a "forever motorcycle" I want in my stable.... But not the only bike!
Trying to work that out myself, after a long time off got back in to riding a couple of years ago with a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro and whilst I really like the bike, it doesn’t give me that classic feeling that I used to like, so considering a T120 also, as you say though it seems it will need to be an AND scenario rather than an OR..
Great review. May I ask how tall you are? Moving forward it would be good if you got into the riding position and let people know your height so they get a feel of how they might fit on the bike.
nice video, is this bike good enough and usually commutingfriendly? foor daily use and weekend Turing? Any way great video Be safe & God bless
It is nice, might look for something like this at some point in the future, what did you replace it with?
i have nearly 20k km on my t120 bonnie, and i gotta agree with you on the height. it sits a bit too low for my liking but everything else is just perfect especially swapping for those fox rear shocks.
The Fox shocks were on mine when I bought it! I love them. Thanks for watching!
I was riding off-road the other day and came across a motorcycle that would be great for you to experience. The Harley Davidson Pan-American 1250 in all black. It was a very impressive bike off-road while I was riding my Moto Guzzi on the same terrain.
That’s a great suggestion!! Thanks for watching the channel!
I haven't read any of the comments but I know you got a scrambler 1200. good for you! enjoy🌞
May I ask if the cargo net came with the luggage rack? Is that a triumph brand or after market grab bar? 🌹
Great review. What’s the new bike?
It's gotta be the speed twin for sure. It's all on your list. I'd like a T 100 black but I don't think they make one!
Good video. The bonneville such nice bike. You might be getting a Triumph Tiger of some sort or the 1200 scrambler triumph would be my guess.
Great to see more girls on bikes : ) that bike looks lovely
Where’s the next video?! What bike?
Please tell me where you found that headlight cover that fits the Bonnie T120.
Beautiful!!!!
Thanks for watching!
@@OneDownGeneUp my pleasure
Triumph Scrambler 1200 next perhaps? Sounds like that might cover your needs and wants.
My guess as well! Love my 2019 Scrambler 1200 XC
I love the Scrambler! Such a mean bike 😈
As a taller fella myself im eying up the T120 as its the bigger bonnie choice. I am however curious to see what you went for as im also looat the scrambler 1200XE. WHERES THAT UPDATE
I think it’s a beautiful Bike. I’m considering buying one myself.
You need a 39 rear gear to get more torque and a usable 6th gear. Makes a big difference when touring.
I am only 5" 7" and was always worried the seat height might be too high. Do you think it would be comfortable for me?
It is a sharp bike for sure. I can see why u like it
Thanks for watching!
Nice video...looking forward to you unvieling your new TRIUMPH SCRAMBLER
That T120 Black looks fantastic! If you want bags of power and torque then Triumph Rocket TFC (a phenomenal machine). Practicality with performance, Triumph Tiger GT 1200 (outstanding do everything bike). Anyway, Triumph's suit you.
We actually used to own a Rocket 3! kzhead.info/sun/odJ7laaLiaCLm58/bejne.html
has to be the triumph scrambler
Has the gearbox/gear selector problem ever been sorted out on the bonneville models?
Where you been? That was sorted out in 1978!
Just wrote here a few hours ago but forgot to say, altho I do so love long hair on women I must say that your new short hair style sure does suit you good.
Maybe the Speed Twin 1200 scrambler or go the full ADV Tiger?
Triumph Scrambler XC 1200, sad to see the T120 go though.
Scramblers are incredible machines!! Definitely sad to see Bonnie go.
I think you would like one of the Tiger 900 series.
Who wouldn’t! :) they’re so cool Thanks for watching, Yang !
The Scrambler, of course!
Nice. So you're getting a Vespa?
Did you end up going for the triumph speed twin 1200 or perhaps the thruxton?
I’ve never ridden a Thruxton, but I really want to! Thanks for watching Luke!
Great comments on the bike! This is one of my dream bikes, a T120 could be my next purchase! My guess for your next bike would be, the Triumph Scrambler? Or maybe something a bit more powerful.. sub'd to discover!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!!
How tall are you? I have a T120 Black as well and I'm on tippy-toes (at 5'9").
Easy - 1200 Scrambler ticks all of your boxes.. I changed that way for all the same reasons. T120B is definitely a cool looking bike though, and no doubt 👍🏻
It sure would…! Thanks for watching!
In the end, what replaced the Bonn?
I think you are going for the Tiger 900 Rally pro
An incredible bike for sure!
I can see you comfortably riding a Scrambler 900 as the perfect road and off road bike. You don’t need more power for sure.
Why's everyone's bike so damn clean
Helps the resale value ;) thanks for watching Bobby!
If my bike was regulary on YT, i'm sure it would be (and stay) a lot cleaner than it does!!
They clean it!!🤔
Hi there, Hope you’re doing well. We haven’t seen you for 9 months. What happened to the new bike reveal?
sending ❤ from 🇵🇭 gene!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
So what new bike did you get?
Higher seating position, more power, off road capable? Sounds like you need a Triumph Scrambler XC
It's soooo costly in India but the new Triumph 400s launched in India are attractive af!
Oof those are beautiful bikes 😍 I think I like the scrambler more than the street one. What do you think?
@@OneDownGeneUp for my height I think the scrambler is much more suitable, that extra 35 mm seat hight will help a lot in maneuverability. And you know, a scrambler is really the ideal bike for Indian potholes😂😂
Are you sticking with Triumph? Going with the Scrambler?
she looks beautiful...Indeed.👍👍👍
Scrambler or a speed twin perhaps?
Tall gal Triumph 1200 scrambler!
Such a beautiful bike! 😍
hmm thinking it might be the transalp honda fantastic engine and fantastic value , enjoyed your video , theres no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing ya right however come up with that one know,s nothing 😄they,er wasting there money putting rain mode on my bikes
That’s a great guess! The Transalp is such a cool bike. I might disagree with ya there 😂 I have been through some very terrible weather with great clothing 😂🌧️
I guess you´ll problably get a big trail, hahahahahaha. I had a Speed Twin 1200, and I agree with all the things you said about the Bonneville, but classics bikes, RULES!
Speed Twin 1200 is such a great sounding bike! Classic bikes *do* rule; thanks for watching!
Scramblerr❤❤
😍
💯
It’s a Tiger! The next bike ;)
have you experienced a flat in these 15k miles, if yes, how did you handle it?
How about the DUCATI Desert X 937
Those are some good lookin motorcycles!
It's been THREE MONTHS! where's the new bike???
Sounds like the triumph 1200, scrambler XE or XC is in your future.
Could be!
Sounds like a Tiger 900/1200 might be your next bike.
That would be sick! Thanks for watching
Hey, looking forward to the update? Where are the new videos?
who makes that rear grab bar/luggage rack? can you share the part number? Thank you!
Hey! I actually got it off of eBay, but I think Motone Customs makes one that looks identical.
@@OneDownGeneUp thank you! I have one on my T120 but mine doesn't have the grab bar portion.
@samsungtaco11 oh, sorry I misunderstood! Grab rail/luggage rack is from triumph. I don’t know the part number because it came on the bike when I bought it. Straight from triumph though
Did you stick with Triumph and buy a Tiger 900?
It is crucial that you are able to life it up in case you drop it. If the bike is heavy as Bonneville, chances are you never get your bike back up. Imagine you are in that situation in the middle of a trail.
You're choices would be Z900rs Triumph Tiger Pan America
You want a magic machine ha. One day it's a speed triple, the next a scrambler . Nice
Having owned both of those bikes, I’d say you’re right, Dave! 😁 Thanks for watching!
What's the T120's year?
You want the Scrambler 😅
Gene Dawg =Tiger 900GT 💯✌️🤟🤘
That’s a great bike!
Try the scrambler XE 1200
A beautiful bike 😍
You should get yourself a Scrambler 1200 XC
Sorry Gene I didn’t read your full description of the bikes you have ridden. Z out the Moto Guzzi. How about a BMW R1250GS?
Ooo that’s a good guess! Maybe!
Sounds like the bike you need is a triumph 1200 xe scrambler. Higher seat, off road and touring capable.
Sounds like you want the new Scrambler 1200
I think if you are as faithful to Triumph as I reckon you are, the Bonnie replacement will be Triumphs 1200 Scrambler! Please don't dissapoint me as I came to "One Down Two Up" and stayed here, coz of your Triumph affinity. There are not many of you Tri. folk here on YT.
Triumph has my heart ❤️ thanks for watching!
