  • for those who dont know, the umbrella scene has more meaning than what you think. in asia, two people sharing an umbrella is a sign of true romance or love, thats why people that have feelings fo each other draw an umbrella with their names under it similar as what we do in the west with a heart and arrow. so they sharing the umbrella while high signifies they are "meant for each other". she still wanting to share the umbrella and he rejecting to do it (when he sobered up) signifies he is rejecting his true feelings or the realization of them, what makes him nervous and insecure because he had never had those feelings before. thats why he also ghost her right after. edit: to answer some comments and to clarify: the writing your name under an umbrella drawing is a thing from japan, but the relation of "love" and umbrellas have ancient history in china (which has influenced many cultures in asia, like japan), specially the classic paper ones. they were usually offered as wedding gifts for good pregnancy, as dowry, etc. with time these practices stopped, but the love allegory sticked to this day. specially in literature and as a cinematic tool, more noticable in the show how i met your mother, and in this movie.

An old couple lived there years ago and their love made a huge impression on both of them. The older couple would sit every night, on the balcony, to watch the sunset. You have it wrong. The movie is about what money can’t buy. It’s a beautiful movie and I hope more people watch it. I loved it!

  • I see a lot of comments mentioning the "as long as you're rich you will literally always get your way." And I'm as cynical as the rest of you so I'm not going to deny that entirely. The entire plot of the movie depends on him being so wealthy that he can drive absurd plot points forward singlehandedly. But if I were to be a romantic for a second, the love story works because he was the only person that could recognize and appreciate the full depths of her talent and skill. And yes, he had the money and power to bend the entire story around his insane appreciation of her talent.

  • The movie is kinda cute but the drama between the two feels too manufactured :/ She loved him and enjoyed spending time with him but then randomly all of a sudden hated him and refused to see him just because he had food cooked by his personal chef like ??? It wouldve felt a lot more real if he did something wrong OR if she actually felt creeped out by him just coming to her home... I feel like realistically if this super rich dude found an incredibly gifted working class chef then he should just hire her as his second personal chef and it wouldn't be that deep lol
