What is your trucks current mpg?
I can’t drive but, my 1990 Toyota Pickup SR5 gets about 11 MPG.
Around 22-24 miles a gallon on my 2019 SR5. I've got stock everything except a camper shell, side steps, reindeer antlers and a red nose!
My stock 2009 TRD Sport gets about 17.5 miles to the gallon 👍
On my 2021 Double Cab TRD Off Road 4X4 gives me 17.5 mpg and I just added a bed rack from Victory 4X4
My 2021 Trd off road Double cab gets 17-20 mpg. I drive mix of city and highway. I think I get pretty good MPG with the amount of traffic and stop and go, then again my Tacoma is stock.
"I'm a little concerned that I don't have enough fuel and we're not gonna make it." Cue scene of balls to the wall acceleration.
Literally exactly what I was going to post. Haha
Lmao no 💩 gotta send iittt!! Lol
That’s what I was thinking. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Do it for Dale...
Anything for the shot you gotta commit
but the narrator. can we just take a moment and appreciate the vibes he gives?
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed Jacks narration
That also the one that narrate for ford
It’s an excellent touch
Matteo: I feel like with the amount of gas I have, we're not gonna make it.. Also Matteo: *flooring it down a dirt road*
🤣🤣🤣
A Toyota normally has 100-180km left on the tank after “0 mileage left”, because the Japanese are very careful.
At one time i was in the middle of no where and my Lexus fSUV fuel gauge was at zero. I still was able to keep driving for a fair distance and found a gas station to fill up.
100-180 km after 0 mileage left????, where did you read that I find that just impossible, I believe cars normally have something less than 30 km, just to give you time to find a gas station
Wow, look at this. A content creator humble enough to admit his miscalculation and error ON CAMERA. Instant sub for me mates. Great content so far, Im loving these Tacoma set-ups
I honestly feel like we aren’t going to make it. Continues to make drive by shots.
😂
Its crazy, cause When I watched pt, I told myself you needed to double that amount of gas that you calculated.. man when youre going on a trip like this, out in the middle of nowhere and all you have is yourself, it pays to double what you logically calculate bc so many variables can pop up. Variables that we'll never think about when planning the trip. When it comes to water and fuel on a trip like this, being a bit overstocked can never hurt imo. But im glad you were able to find a gas station. Imagine doing this is south America.. small towns are way less developed and gas stations are can be rare. Keep that in mind for your future trips. Great video, and great experience tho! Happy holidays fellas!
Yeah we really messed up that part of the planning.
@@HoglundOverland you guys did great. Dont be to hard on yourselves. There will always be variables you cant account for. The good thing about it happening in that butt clenching suspenseful way is that now itll always be in the back of your minds and i doubt youll ever be short of fuel and water on any future trips lol. You guys did great brother! All part of learning, keep up the great work
@@AnthrozoologyTV Thanks for the support, it's definitely something that we are keeping a close eye on for future trips. We have a big trip planned for 2021 and maybe a few shorter ones.
@@HoglundOverland Would it have been realistic for Matteo to carry 45-50 gallons of extra fuel? That doesn't seem realistic. I think you guys did great. going out of your way to get gas once on a trip like that doesn't seem unreasonable. Plus, the fuel "crisis" added some drama to the series! :D
@@mitchhinkle900 hahah love the fuel crisis. It added a bit of miles to the trip but it all worked out.
Freaggin love this series! Do more extended travels like this!!!
Will do 🤘🏼
It’s been a lot of fun to watch the videos and re live the experience all over again.
i think a soccer mom in a subaru would shred that trail....👌
💯
I think we saw a mini van out there right Ken? 😂😂😂
@@tacomabeast yeah right next to the McDonald’s.
I took a Ford Taurus over the first part of that trail a week ago. It would get sketchy for me though on that mountain section in Nevada...if the doors were still on after endless washboard. LOL Kinda hard to air down car tires too much on 18s.
as a subaru owner, I wholeheartedly agree
I told my wife that this is what I need my truck to be like. Her response was, "thats not really camping." I responded with "lady! The only difference is the tents not on the ground and in 5 minutes, we can pickup camp, move on, and set camp up again."
Who doesn't want to be off the ground? hahah
Could definitely save gas by running in 2WD and keeping your tires aired up. Oh yeah, and driving conservatively...
Hahaha but what fun would that have been? On a serious note you are 100% correct.
Production value on this series is just top notch! Very inspiring!
The exhilaration of getting a bit off course, the challenge of route finding when hitting barriers, and gas anxiety when traveling the desert southwest is what makes the ordinary turn into an adventure. Nice work boys... From a dude that's twice your age and a lifetime of experience in desert exploration. And I still love doin' it...
Exploring the desert never gets old, thanks for watching our adventure!
I immediately clicked play, as soon as I saw part 3, but then I had to pause and play it on my 65” TV to appreciate it to the fullest. Both my wife and I enjoy watching this mini serie together for the 3 Sunday in a row. Great content Mateo 🤙🏼
That’s awesome. I’m sure it looked great on the 65”
Francisco, we are so happy to hear this. 🙏🏼
@@HoglundOverland it sure did! Just as if you were watching a Discovery or National Geographic documentary
I’m Australian and got a bit tired of watching videos of Aussies on tracks I have already done or seen on YT. I came across this Pony Express series and thoroughly enjoyed it. Driving out into desolate desert type places is my thing. The scenery and videography was great. Just subscribed. Cheers from down under!
Welcome aboard! You should check out our Baja series if you like desert scenery 🤙
Thanks for following along the adventure.
I initially thought their truck was overkill for this journey, but I take it back lol.
😂😂
Did he really killed it? Everything tastes better when you’re hungry in the outdoors haha
Haha you got that right. That steak wasn’t the best. I don’t think I let the grill heat up enough so I didn’t sear in the flavors as much as I would have liked. Having said that it was still pretty great!!
I like the idea of how the history is being narrated. Giving us extra knowledge with this amazing video.. Great job guys
That deep-voiced narrator is just the right mix to this piece @1:23👌🤌👏
That camera work at 4:49 was awesome! Rewatched a couple times
I wish I could have this type of adventure in South Africa. Its so amazing. Keep it up guys
U guys got me into Overlanding!!! Owe it to u all!! Don’t settle, u want? U make that happen. Overlanding brought me an my 10 yr old daughter even closer than we already were. Atheena an I watch u guys daily when we are not on the trail. Keep it up we see u
Cheers. Glad you found overlanding and you’re able to take your daughter. It’s fun taking in the experience with the kids.
Hybrid Rav4 would smoke this trail
Beautiful content ❤️❤️❤️ , great videos and editing is amazing 😍😍 keep creating content like this 📷❤️
definitely getting the learning curve of a long trip overland experience from this content.
“We need to find a Gas station and quick!!” Yeah…. On the pony express? I think I see one up ahead of you by that Car wash!! Lmao 🤣🤣👍
😂😂😂😂
Ur trails are so smooth , here u have potholes size of 3 basketball very 10 km and u can’t go beyond 100km on the freaking national highway ,it’s that rough . It’s India.
Production is great, your videos are awesome...keep kicking ass guys!
This is now officially my favorite KZhead channel.
Seeing pony express series 4 th time just loved it
Hell yeah! 🙌
amazing production quality in these videos. top notch guys, I love it.
Its getting more more interesting 🔥🔥🔥 THAT MASS BASS VOICE really 🔥
And here I’m stuck with friends that just want to play ball at the school by my house. Where do I find this kind of friends 😂 . Awesome video guys.
I’m really loving this series
Wow boys the episodes keep getting better!! Really enjoying being along for the journey with you!! Thanks again for sharing your adventure with us, can't wait for next week
Thanks Bruce, one more episode to go and I can't wait to see how David and Mateo finish the series. I saw the first draft a few months ago but they hadn't ended the video. Obviously I was there and now how it ends but I can't wait to see how the narration plays into it.
“Not gonna make it” yet still rips it and burns a ton of gas. Love it but crazy!
Omg! it’s 4 am and I wont sleep until i finish all daily eps. I love it!!!
Dude Mateo, i love this series. Keep it up!! Good work! Beautiful shots and story telling!!
Mateo and David have really done an amazing job compiling the videos.
Love the sound of Narrator, got Death Race vibes!
Right?!
@@tacomabeast 🤟🏼🤟🏼
Upload the last 2 videos!!! The suspens is killing me 🤣🤘
At this point you guys have more interesting overlanding content than XO
XO is a huge inspiration I've been a big fan of theirs for a long time and have met most of them. I've enjoyed following along the solo trips but in all very different from what we're trying to make.
XO's current SOLO series is really family oriented bringing 3 kids in tow. The one prior with the Arctic series seemed like they were thrown off b/c they headed into Canada literally right before the pandemic shutdowns. I believe they were rushing as Canada gave them a month to stay. I still stay tune to see whats in store for the next SOLO series with Crofts.
"tank average fuel economy: 9 MPG" lmao
Awesome journey, awesome videos taking us along 🤙🏼
Thanks for following along. One more episode to go. 👏🏻👏🏻
I'm loving this series. I live near Sacramento CA. Might do it with my overlanding family next summer! We love history. Probably wouldn't do the full route at all once. Want to see if my 89 year old Dad is up for 1 more epic trip. I will go over the other videos for information.
Let us know if you make it happen. We wish you the best! 🤘🏼
Man that'd be amazing trip with your dad! I hope you can make that memory with him.
New to the channel and I’m loving it.
I never leave home without an MRE, in an adventure like this, MRE will be essential. Fuel wise, he should have calculated idling time and uphill driving where he needs more fuel. Nonetheless, it looks like an awesome adventure and I wish i could do it too. Lol.
Yeah we didn’t consider idle time from making stops and uphill driving. Really good points.
I got lost there at night it was a nightmare. These are. the best adventure days you'll remember in your life
getting lost sucks and not being able to follow the intended route was a bummer.
Great series guys!
I'm enjoying this. Making sure to watch all the episodes.
The one thing I did when I bought my Tacoma was not worry about scratches or pin-striping. I call them love marks.
Love marks or as I call them badges of honor. 🤣🤣 they usually buff out.
Tacomas out there representing! Nice video brother!
Thank you 👊🏻
I enjoy watching from Qld Australia. I love it
Epic 👌. A journey you will remember forever.
Absolutely.
Awesome video... wish I can own a similar truck when I go back to the stateside( love from China, currently quarantine)
Be safe out there
Excellent video, every thing you guys have done on this trip, just lived my dream, I feel intrigued to watch.
Thanks for following along.
great video! man that looks like a blast!
It's definitely a high level content. I watched ur one video and got addicted bro. I also want to do these adventures but don't know what will happen. Love from INDIA bro ❤️❤️
trip mapping sounds cool! woohoo...
Those drone shots are epic..🔥
Drones really add an amazing perspective to the video. Hard to take it all in.
You know my 15 f350 6.7 diesel have a 37 tank and at 600 miles on one tank I think I’d be ok gas wise but since I’m on 22’s I’d have trouble in the mountain area. Love y’all’s builds! 🙏🏽🔥
OMG I almost eat my phone when you were doing the BBQ.. Next time you could try one the best side dishes the Arepa with that beef... Yummy yummy... Nice job, epic trail , badass rigs btw.
Completely agree. Arepas would have been great. Our cameraman grew up eating them and he should have made some for us.
This is awesome adventure. I am planning on pimping up a SUV and doing the same in the near future.
That’s gonna be sick!
Guys, good video. You should map out all the gas stations (Champs is in Austin) and be sure of the miles (you got that right, about 400 miles to Austin)
Thanks for the tip!
Nice video, nice trail, nice travel.
I love your vids. I wish i could experience that kind of adventure. It was great. I hope someday i will be there to. Love from the philippines! Godbless
We’ll be here waiting for that day! 🙌
If you guys do more road trip like this. I would watch it everyday
We hope to do more trips this year.
Very nice cinematography..!
Its so good to watch. Really find interesting here bro... Stay safe..!!
Thank you 👊🏻
these videos are amazing what an experience
Was a really fun trip.
Cant wait for Day4
great for the trip
It’s Awesome trip, I really like it😍😍
Dope dope dope.. you guys score🎯 no corona virus love it 😁🔥🙌👍
Ehm....it’s a scam sir
Nice getting away from it all and relaxing. Nice not having the news throughout the trip.
@@crowbrocaw no scam👀 trust me bro real sheeeeet cali is🔥😷
the juxtaposition between 12:45 and 12:48 is hysterical
😂
Theas videos are awesome!!
Awesome series! I’m still waiting for your review on the Eibach pro lift kit.
We will have this video premier 2021
@@tacomabeast oh, how did you get lost were you using Apple Maps? :P
I love this channel the drama like the gas makes me laugh bits still awesome
😂😂
when you made that 12 mpg estimate I was like “Noooo, calculate it for 10!” and THAT was still too high
Yeah really poor planning on our part.
The amount of bro power in this video is staggering.
Wow... great production
Thanks! 🔥
You guys are awesome 👏 the cars are very nice and the food omg you guys had mean ass food 😂💪
Thanks bro! 🙌
DAY4! yeaaah!!! National Geographic (ft. TCM)
👏🏻👏🏻
Oh man. I'm dying by watching this. So so so cinematic! What kind of camera did you guys use to capture these episodes? Seems like the entire footage was captured in RAW!
Was shot with the Mavic Pro 2 and the Canon EOS R, pretty amazing what these guys were able to capture from our trip!
@@HoglundOverland Seriously? Just with an EOS R? I'm so impressed by the dynamic range! The filmmaker guy has done one hell of a job same as you guys have!
@@Kira.raw. David with Mateo both did an amazing job with the colors!
New subscriber. Great content keep it up
El pana de la Tacoma gris es un duro cocinando en la parrilla 😂, me recuerda los viajes por vnzla
😂😂😂
dude, the natrator is insane
Love That 40 serious Land cruiser T-shirt
Yeah nice tshirt from cruiser outfitters.
Excellent voice over class edit 👌 from kerala INDIA ✅️
From Karnataka India 😁
this is epic! how about another 500 miles going back?
That would have been awesome, now that we saw the trail we could have chosen incredible camp spots.
I've dreamed of making this trip again.
1:22 This voice is powerful
i loveeeee ur vidsss aaaa lotttttt, plssss briinnggg mooooreeeee ❤️
Thanks! 🙌
"You got your snorkel ready" "Hold on" - pulls out a hole saw and a dryer hose.
🤣🤣🤣
It must have been a luxury adventure with all that hardware.
That was the plan 😎
Missing you guys i this i will with you
Should have had trail narrator narrate the raunchy BO from tents at the end.
That's a very big big water crossing 😂😂😂😂😂😂 big fan from India brother
Osm video bro.. I like it
Hey brotha love the videos series and your Tacoma! I was curious if you think a Tundra would be able to do these trails? I’m looking to get a truck and am stuck between the Tundra and Tacoma, I love the Tacoma and have always wanted one but the v8 in Tundra is tempting. I’m just worried about it being too big to do off-road trails.
A tundra would be perfect for the pony express. Just make sure you take the right amount of gas if you plan to make it the entire way
Awesome
