Hanoi authorities started banning tourists from a popular railway lined with bars and cafes on October 10, 2019, after a train had to make an emergency stop to avoid hitting visitors accused of taking too many risks in pursuit of “perfect selfies”.Citing safety concerns, officials in the Vietnamese capital have set an October 12 deadline for the closure of dozens of cafes and shops that have gradually been built too close to the railway.

  • I live in Arizona, USA. At the Grand Canyon the edge drops almost straight down about 100m to the next 10cm ledge, then another 100 - 300m. Thousands of tourists visit the canyon. Most of them don't fall off into it. Quite possibly the drive to see it is the most dangerous part of the journey. However, because it COULD happen means it WILL happen someday, obviously.

    @bisbeejim@bisbeejim4 жыл бұрын
  • You know it's dangerous because kids are very impressionable. No thanks to technology and social media, young kids would do the same risk without being aware completely of their surroundings. Even a child no less than 4 yrs old nowadays can fully understand and operate basic social media. But they're minds are easily corrupted.

Vietnam has a chance to make something of itself economically now with all the foreign investment coming in, so don't reduce yourself to a mere tourist attraction.
