      @tukanovarit@tukanovarit Жыл бұрын
    • Yes, a modern one starts even better. But DO NEVER DOUBLE OR TRIPLE GLOW! That kills glow plugs and - Dang! you are in trouble because next time the engine won't fire up in all cylinders and that will cause you hard and rough cold starts with lots of cranking, smoke etc. And when the weather is even colder, no start at all, only cranking til your battery dies. The 2nd car in this vid was a typical example. Very bad start at 2 or 3 cylinders. The owner was lucky it started at the end. Cold diesel engines need all cylinders (and glow plugs) for a smooth and safe start as well as a strong healthy battery.

  • Until the early 90's, Mercedes engineers stood above the accountants. As a result, no costs were spared in the designs.go to any middle eastern craphole, and you still see 60's era mercs happily chucking along with 3 million miles on the clock on the original engine. If you look at anything past the W124 /W140 etc era and you'll notice the drastic difference in quality.

    • My father had a turbocharged diesel sedan from the late 70’s/early 80’s and he ran it on an approx 4:1 ratio of used restaurant cooking oil-to-petroleum diesel fuel and he got over 700,000 miles out of it without ever touching the engine or manual transmission (other than changing oil). The only reason it was gotten rid of was because everything else started dying. They were like the Lexus of their day.

    • nostalgia bias. Ever tried to buy a brand new mercedes benz in that era? They cost three times more than they do today. Go ahead, imagine a standard diesel C class you buy for 120 000e today.

    • @DublinDutch - Of course the accountants don´t stand above the engineers and vice versa. However, if you build cars that you don´t earn anything on, then - as a company - you will seize to exist in the medium to long run.

For the Price.. My w204 was 53k Euros back in 2011 and my w206 was 55k Euros at the end of 2021.. so they didnt really got up in price... If u pump them full with all shit.. yea u can pay easly 70k Euros.... But anyways.. I like to drive my cars a long time when i buy them.. doesnt matter if they are new or old.. but after almost 11 years i just wanted something new and i saved money for it.. so

      @BoatLoadOfSeaMen@BoatLoadOfSeaMen Жыл бұрын
    • @@BoatLoadOfSeaMen sure. First, If it’s a manual transmission you’ll need to put the vehicle in neutral and also press the clutch to the floor. From there you’ll want to glow the plugs probably two or three times in a row. Before you turn the key you’re going to press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there. Now mind you this is for extreme cold. You’re finally ready to turn the key to start. You’re going to hold the key in the start position with the pedal all the way on the floor and let it crank. With a gas engine as soon as there is the initial fire you would let go of the key. But that’s not the case with the diesels, you have to stay on the starter while the engine fires roughly. There does come a point where you can let off the starter after the engine appears to be moving past starter speed. That’s the nuance of a cold diesel start, knowing to stay on the starter, and when to release the key. The next piece is bringing the accelerator pedal off of the floor, if you do it too quickly the car will die. If you do not do it quickly enough in the engine will race. That’s the second nuance of getting a cold diesel to start. Good luck!!

    • ECU is shit ...... for /8 Diesel your electrical measurement equipment is a 12 V light bulb with soldered leads. You can conect the glowplugs parallel instaed serial or even start in deep cold with 2 batteries in series. Unfortunately, they rusted quickly even though they were thick sheet metal. A lot of salt has been spread where I live. everything mechanical..... once the diesel was running, you couldn't stop it with an electromagnetic autostop system, even if the alternator burned out.

That means its going to drop dead without warning soon. If it dies on the road I don't have to pay installation but it might take some hours. I have a booster so it would still be cheating. I'm curious how long it will hold on.

  • 3:39 Bravissimo, great way to compare the individual types of Mercedes Benz diesel vehicles in terms of their starting behavior at sub-zero temperatures. At / until minute 3:38 you can see an oil pressure gauge in the cockpit. This shows the oil pressure build-up during the starting process and when the engine is running. An oil pressure gauge is what is known as a wear indicator....this is how you can tell in what good or bad condition the engine is....after these almost 190,000 kilometers. For the aforementioned reason, oil pressure gauges are no longer installed in today's passenger vehicles. Am I correct with these statements?

  • I think you can improve the video by adding the Merc. year of production or some basic info like this. Regardless, I do like watching how they start although I do not know why. :)

      @leckercidre160@leckercidre1602 жыл бұрын
    • The pump already has a cold advance and if it's electronic the pedal is ignored while starting anyway. So no you don't need to unless it's an old carbed gasser.
