Trudeau says budget will include new benefits for renters
The Liberals are promising to create a 15-million dollar Tenant Protection Fund.
It would provide money to legal aid organizations to help defend renters against unfair payment hikes and renovictions.
The government says it will also introduce a Renters' Bill of Rights and amend the Canadian Mortgage Charter so tenants get credit for paying their rent on time by having their rental history count toward their credit score.

It’s not just credit score but the eligibility to qualify for the mortgage (many factors are involved), he is saying that rent will be also considered as one of the factors to qualify for the mortgage. So, if you are a long term renter then you might have good chance of getting the mortgage but then again we don’t know the full details yet!

Seniors are struggling who are paying for rent , groceries and all other expenses are struggling to survive on daily basis. Fixed income is not enough at all. They can't own or buy homes anymore. Some of them have applied for low income housing for more than eight to ten years but still waiting. It's embarrassing for Canadians and our government. Seniors are not even getting two thousands a month. Very sad !!

As a professional student property manager, I can assure everyone that this kind of policy will hurt landlords and young people. This will only benefit young people who have their rent covered by their parents, who are always homeowners. That accounts for 50-70% of post secondary students. The other 30% that pay for themselves and are prone to missing or being late on payments, and have zero chance affording a home on their own volition - might as well put a foot on their head and push them under the water. Get real- Stop the ridiculous immigration for Christ sakes!

Emphasis should be put on affordability by increasing supply. The rental subsidy will not increase either supply or reduce demand. The property owners will exploit the situation and continue to boost the rents. More measures should be taken to dampen demand by increasing the supply of rental units for a long-term solution.
If you're investing in rental housing, you have no intention of making home ownership affordable.

Rent increases should be across the same across the board. In fact newer properties built after 2018 typically have minimal repairs and maintenance so it should be controlled.

About eight years ago I had $23,000 in my bank account and I went to buy a house actually was an apartment and the bank says no you have to come up with $60,000 cash because I was self-employed. Well I told the bank if I have $60,000 on my bank account right now, I will just go in a different country and leave there for much cheaper so conclusion is never gonna happen in Canada
