The first World War was depressing, "lost childhood" as is often described. Nobody who came back from that war was ever the same, much less be able to settle into normality. Both Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" and Peaky Blinders' "Thomas Shelby" - capture the depiction. The tool it took on the people, class division, and the PTSD that they all suffered. As Cillian Murphy mentioned, Thomas was a child before the war and during it his childhood was taken from it; glances of that child we see when he was with Grace, he smiled and found peace. Taken away from him once more. A haunting portrayal of tragedy. A fascinating character study.

I'm 55 yrs old. I grew up watching The Godfather trilogy. The Godfather (especially I & II) are in my opinion the greatest cinematographic art works in hystory. Peaky Blinders achieve the same level. And that's incredible, for being a tv series. Thomas Shelby and Michael Corleone have many similarities, and both became tragic figures. Both lost The One Woman they truly loved (Michael's 1st wife, Apollonia, was blewn up in Sicilly by a car bomb). This reinforced their tragedy.

This actor is incredible you can feel his pain sometimes when I see him I want to cry I don’t know why but I think the reason why we love him so much is because he’s one of the most human characters ever made you can identify with him in many ways maybe you haven’t experienced the same things as he did because times changed and we live in a different world but we all suffered for something or someone and we see our pain in his pain that’s why it’s so heartbreaking
ikrrr.
You've been through world war 1 And the burden of killing ?
@@karimaljammal4221 of course not the experiences are different but the feelings are the same.
You can't kill a man who's already dead inside.
that hit..
damn can relate and that line is so obviously transparently thomas.
@@marouu_x omg step sis are you stuck
i literally finished the show like not even a week ago and this video portrays the main idea of the entire series so well, it's mindblowing ✨
same...
“ May you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you’re dead”. Grace
For the devil, himself is waiting to give him a firm handshake and say, "Hello, Mr Shelby"
Kwihidimondi DelBosque exactly what i was thinking about Michael corleone
yup...
@@dhruvsbeloved you should watch also Boardwalk Empire

Cillian Murphy is so underrated :(
ikrrr
The ideology of this video is so amazing it starts with calmness goes through fury and again end with silence its so beautifully described each and everything about thomas shelby eacha nd evry scene describes him the best
"I'm in a room. And they're all coming to get me. It's ok, I want them to. The last thing I want is silence. Standing there in silence and someone says: "sorry about all that noise. Sorry about all that dust. Sorry about all that mud. And all the fucking blood." And you say: "is alright. Don't be sorry, don't be sorry". It's all I am now."
"In the Bleak Midwinter..." I have been waiting for this video for years... finally, the time has come.
He will make me smoke ciggs one day I tell you guys.
Hahaha Same. Never thought about before i saw how Thomas smoke 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣guys
Cillian/Tommy smoked over 3000 herbal cigarettes (not weed) during the series
I started amoking because of him lol But i will never be that stylish
I know I wasn't the only one 😂😂 I almost started smoking
1:11 _i can't believe this guy is not true italian_ *I mean, LOOK AT HIS FACE* *THATS THE MOST ITALIAN FACE I'VE EVER SEEN*
And yet his Italian is awful
IKR LIKE WTF
C'est quand même Adrian Brody !!!! Un monstre d'acteur!!! ✡️😘
2:31 hands down for Tom Hardy. His acting is astonishing
I’m never getting tired of watching that first scene. “Ahh there’s a woman” DAMN!
"Dangerous,my beautiful horse. Couldn't stick the peace and quiet... Gave up on life."
I belive he's gonna be completley mad by the end of the show
Yes, I believe that too
Lmao si
I don't think he'll be alive by the end of the show.

This is absolutely GORGEOUS! Thank you for making an amazing edit that depicts everything Tommy is, and all that he has gone through during the show - and season 5 alone. You're incredible!
This was absolutely beautiful, so much rage and so much love all in the same being.
Diabolical Laughter ensues!! Love you David! Thank you for spotlighting our favorites for all these years!
And there is a woman , these words always arises a whole story inside me.

I just started last week, binge watched everything, and now i'm thirsty for more! This vid is great.
Wow! I've seen these episodes multiple times and I think I've come to terms with Tommy's characters, but this video just gave me goosebumps. I'm going to see it again and again, for sure! Thanks 💫
This is literally the best edit out there about Tommy Shelby.. amazingly put out clips showing his traumas, pain, loss.. just awesome! 👌👏
A nihilist asks : "Why? " But Tommy Shelby asks : "Why not?"
This is an absolute masterpiece, David! I love how you edited Tommy's character and giving him an emotional side exploring every aspect of his psychology.
So perfectly elborated just touched my heart the first scene shows tommy falling with a sound of him on the earth shows how much pain there is just so deep so much pain so much of burden over one single guy
This is brilliant, made me cry ❤️
This is the best Thomas Shelby edit I’ve come across. I come back to listen to it almost every week since it came out. Thank you so much for your work.
This is such an amazing video; the way you portray Tommy in this omg it's just brilliant, it's just him and his devils. Brilliant.

this is heartbreaking but so beautiful at the same time.
Dude love your stuff. It's very to the characters and emotional about the connections we make with them as viewers. Absolutely brilliant. Hats off to you dude.👍
Thomas Shelby reminds me of Max Payne , calm , observant ,smart , broken heart , cold
Max fucking Payne!!
@@msmohit515 Max fookin* Payne
That's me in a nutshell. 😎
Spectacular edit, has all of the most important scenes considering Tommy in it, those that make him the man he is. The only scene i would have included as well is after John criticizes him for making him a toy soldier and Tommy responds by saying that Grace took a bullet meant for him. Makes a lot of difference on how he portrays her death and his struggle to deal with it. Besides that, it's glorious!
I was looking for this video every day . Now its back . Thank you

This series is a masterpiece, and so is this video.

Well, it seems I’ll have to watch all over again. Just because. ... What a show! And you editing is perfect, what a portrait of Mr Shelby!
~ Thomas Shelby . ~ Thank you , this is perfection .
Thomas fookin Shelby
Thomas Shelby is my favorite character in entire movie/tv universe. Also Ragnar Lothbrok, Jamie lannister, Light Yagami, Michael Corleone, Ryan Gosling in the movie Drive, Tyler Durden, Francis Underwood, I am forgetting some but these are all are my favorites too. Beating them all, Thomas became number one for me.
