Inside of his book, adventurous Harold (Zachary Levi) can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After he grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, Harold finds he has a lot to learn about real life-and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible. When the power of unlimited imagination falls into the wrong hands, it will take all of Harold and his friends’ creativity to save both the real world and his own. Harold and the Purple Crayon is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic that has captivated young readers for decades.
Directed by Carlos Saldanha and produced by John Davis, the live-action hybrid family adventure/comedy stars Zachary Levi, Lil Rel Howery, Benjamin Bottani, Jemaine Clement, Tanya Reynolds with Alfred Molina and Zooey Deschanel. The film’s screenplay is written by David Guion & Michael Handelman, based on the book by Crockett Johnson.

  • So I have a theory. The trailer says that those who write a story “creates a whole another world”. Well I believe this world has two layers to it. One is its “real world”, where its people live and what not. The other is its “fake world”, the void Harold is in as a child and as an adult. Since Harold is still wearing an adult fitted version of his pajamas that he had as a child, I believe Harold got trapped in the second layer and grew up there. That’s why he drew the “real world” door. Although one wonders why he didn’t drew it earlier (“I don’t do a lot of thinking indeed!)

  • Okay, this looks better than I thought. I had my hesitations when I heard Harold was going to be an adult but I like it when a film adaptation can work with the source material and make its own story out of it. What would happen in Harold grew up and came to our world with his magic crayon? Thats sounds interesting. Worst case scenario it could just end up feeling like a 2000s style comedy but just based on this trailer...it doesn't look that bad.

  • Harold and the Purple Crayon was my FAVORITE story when I was a kid (clear back in the late 80s/early 90s). One of the first books I ever read on my own (although my mom had read it to me countless times before I learned to read). I just saw a movie poster for this just before Easter and I freaked out because it never in my wildest imagination thought that this story would be made into a movie. The movie comes out August 2, and then 2 days later on August 4 is my 38th birthday. Best believe I'll be sitting in the audience with my purple crayon and a huge dumb grin on my face. I am SO excited for this.

  • Being a late 80s and 90s kid, seeing this trailer brings back memories. They're going really old school with this nostalgia piece. Gen Z probably have no idea what this is. This could be the earliest concept from my lifetime that is getting a modern treatment. Sonic and Mario have had several iterations before their movies. This, however, the last time I saw this name was in 3rd grade. I have to see it just out of moral obligation.

  • I see a lot of comments complaining about it? Here are my thoughts. this is NOT your book made live action, the book exists within this world, and somehow the crayon gets out. this is not changing the book, or pretending to be a movie of the book, it just found a way to use the powers of the book. I think that's the only right way to DO a live action of this. It's not a remake, its something new. Its a tribute to the original book and a new way for kids to enjoy it, and will probably introduce many more people to the original. A good thing, right?

    @Ash_Wynn@Ash_WynnАй бұрын

Tho' also watching the HBO show of Harold and The Purple Crayon when I was a kid growing up did kinda make me inspire me to make a trio of magic crayon users kinda like Harold but with the same color as one of my favorite trios Huey,Dewey, and Louie as the magic crayons would be Red,Blue, and Green, best part is that I can even probably imagine my magic Red,Blue, and Green crayon user trio drawing Vehicles and Mechs too😆

The helicopter completely goes out of control after desperate attempts by parents and good Samaritans to subdue it. It crashes directly into the glass doors that hold the milks and explodes. The police come to question Harold, but he draws a door to escape them. The movie takes a dark turn here; Harold now has ti cope with the inner psychological stress with which he endures from accidentally taking a life.
