Just don't squeeze them and you'll be fine. I do the same with wasps here in Germany because they're only slightly more trigger happy than honeybees. I used a knife to rescue a wasp that feel into my gravy one day, it just sat there on the table and cleaned itself while I had my lunch and once it was done it just took off and flew away without seeking retaliation for the sticky mess it got into. They will get aggressive and rather stabby if you get too close to their hive though while you can stand right next to a beehive and all the bees do is come check you out unless you actively attack the hive.

Once they pollinate the trees, the bees are shipped back to the east coast. I haven’t seen a butterfly in California for a very long time too. Once our pollinators are gone, we’re going to have a problem.

Honeybees are one of the gentlest creatures on the planet. You have to REALLY eff up to make them mad at you. Being a stranger and stealing their food can do it. But, my hives don't do it to me, because I give them food and water, and help clean their hives... And they think I'm just another bee from their hive Kind of like how cats think we're "One of them.".

I had a bee land on my lip last week and was crawling around when it bit me! I thought it stung me at first, but it just bit me! It was weird! It didn't really hurt as much as shock and scare me that it had stung me. Certainly a unique experience that I had not previously experienced and probably never will again.

That's because it was their queen in the first place. You're not likely to find a swarm without a queen. They follow the queen to a new location from the previous hive. She was in the ball under the table at the start that's why they were all right there instead of spread out across the bottom.

I’ve had bees swarm after their queen was killed when a freak powerful storm damaged the hive & they didn’t know what else to do, so they left to find safety somewhere else. I’ve also been called to relocate at least 2 swarms that didn’t have a Queen, but I have no idea why because i don’t know where they came from. Once, I started finding Queen cells on the frames in one of my hives, so I knew something was going on….one day half the hive just vanished, took off…the queen was still in the hive, but she was 4 years old & definitely preparing to retire forever, which is why they were making a new queen. I don’t know why half the hive chose to swarm without a queen, but the half that stayed ended up creating a very strong colony without them. These things do sometimes happen. This colony is very small, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t have a queen with them. I don’t know why she’d randomly carry a queen in a queen cage on her just in case, but maybe she does. Usually she puts queens in clips, which isn’t too difficult to do in the field, but I really don’t know how she would get a wild Queen into a Queen cage under those circumstances. It doesn’t make sense to find the Queen & get her into a cage, when she always has a Queen clip with her.

They don’t really accept her right away. Queens produce pheromones that are unique to them, so having a queen present is accepted by the hive. There are usually 2 holes in a Queen cage, one on either end….we usually leave cork in one hole, and put fondant, or marshmallow in the other hole. Queens are larger than the workers, so she can’t escape the cage, but attendants can get to her to feed her & clean her until she’s out of the cage. Once the colony has accepted their Queen, the bees begin to eat the Candy & once it’s been eaten, the queen can exit the cage through that hole. After about 5 to 7 days, if the bees haven’t been able to release her, we can just pop off the cork on the other side & let her out. Once I had overly attentive bees build comb over the hole with the candy, so she couldn’t get out…I had to let her out, but everything was fine & she was mated, so she started laying immediately. So, basically she stays in the cage that you see her in here….the whole cage is secured to a frame in the hive, for her own safety & to allow the bees to acclimate. They decide when to release her. That’s when she’s been accepted. ❤ bees are freaking amazing

Just don't squeeze them and you'll be fine. I do the same with wasps here in Germany because they're only slightly more trigger happy than honeybees. I used a knife to rescue a wasp that feel into my gravy one day, it just sat there on the table and cleaned itself while I had my lunch and once it was done it just took off and flew away without seeking retaliation for the sticky mess it got into. They will get aggressive and rather stabby if you get too close to their hive though while you can stand right next to a beehive and all the bees do is come check you out unless you actively attack the hive.
The European honeybees she "saves" though are terrible. They're an invasive species that causes the mass extinction of native pollinators and insects, and spread parasites like wildfire.

@@Ruby-yn5fp you’re not really accurate when you say that. In California we have to import bees to pollinate the almond trees in the Central Valley. Once they pollinate the trees, the bees are shipped back to the east coast. I haven’t seen a butterfly in California for a very long time too. Once our pollinators are gone, we’re going to have a problem.

Honeybees are one of the gentlest creatures on the planet. You have to REALLY eff up to make them mad at you. Being a stranger and stealing their food can do it. But, my hives don't do it to me, because I give them food and water, and help clean their hives... And they think I'm just another bee from their hive Kind of like how cats think we're "One of them.".

@@AZ-cq3us Bees don't confine themselves to JUST the frames, when they're making Brood or Honey. They will start building Comb on any flat surface. This can become problematic, when they start cementing the lid of the hive in place.
@@richaaamishra You pop the top and scrape out all the Comb that the beeeees have built where we don't want them to. Like, virtually any flat surface. It's important to do this, because... when the beees do start doing that, it means they're feeling crowded and need more frames to store more honey..

That's because it was their queen in the first place. You're not likely to find a swarm without a queen. They follow the queen to a new location from the previous hive. She was in the ball under the table at the start that's why they were all right there instead of spread out across the bottom.
@@adirtymuppet- That’s not always true. I’ve had bees swarm after their queen was killed when a freak powerful storm damaged the hive & they didn’t know what else to do, so they left to find safety somewhere else. I’ve also been called to relocate at least 2 swarms that didn’t have a Queen, but I have no idea why because i don’t know where they came from. Once, I started finding Queen cells on the frames in one of my hives, so I knew something was going on….one day half the hive just vanished, took off…the queen was still in the hive, but she was 4 years old & definitely preparing to retire forever, which is why they were making a new queen. I don’t know why half the hive chose to swarm without a queen, but the half that stayed ended up creating a very strong colony without them. These things do sometimes happen. This colony is very small, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t have a queen with them. I don’t know why she’d randomly carry a queen in a queen cage on her just in case, but maybe she does. Usually she puts queens in clips, which isn’t too difficult to do in the field, but I really don’t know how she would get a wild Queen into a Queen cage under those circumstances. It doesn’t make sense to find the Queen & get her into a cage, when she always has a Queen clip with her.
They don’t really accept her right away. Queens produce pheromones that are unique to them, so having a queen present is accepted by the hive. There are usually 2 holes in a Queen cage, one on either end….we usually leave cork in one hole, and put fondant, or marshmallow in the other hole. Queens are larger than the workers, so she can’t escape the cage, but attendants can get to her to feed her & clean her until she’s out of the cage. Once the colony has accepted their Queen, the bees begin to eat the Candy & once it’s been eaten, the queen can exit the cage through that hole. After about 5 to 7 days, if the bees haven’t been able to release her, we can just pop off the cork on the other side & let her out. Once I had overly attentive bees build comb over the hole with the candy, so she couldn’t get out…I had to let her out, but everything was fine & she was mated, so she started laying immediately. So, basically she stays in the cage that you see her in here….the whole cage is secured to a frame in the hive, for her own safety & to allow the bees to acclimate. They decide when to release her. That’s when she’s been accepted. ❤ bees are freaking amazing
