Kosem WAS still innocent at this point. Everyone who was punished because of her was guilty of a crime. It's not till later that she's just power hungry and cruel.
The reason why I still watched this, until this episode is because of Iskender. He's so handsome, I'm waiting for Safiye to discover the truth that Iskender is his lost prince.

True. There was this scene where she spoke so disrespectfully ordering Kosem to go to her chambers. Even Ahmed looked appalled at Handan's tone when she spoke to Kosem. To be honest Kosem had no issue with Handan. It was Handan wanting to control everything and everyone including her son like a puppet. She couldn't stand that he listened to kosem. She basically wanted all the influence. Which is why she was so stricken when Ahmed put his foot down and emphasized that Kosem was important and not to be disrespected either. Kosem is no saint but I like that Ahmed made it clear to his mom. Life would be easy if in the real world most men would support their wives rather than allow their mothers run their home and leave their wives open to disregard from their mothers
Something about Handan being heartbroken that Ahmed loves Kosem more than her just creeps me out. It's also really sad to see how compassionate Kosem started out when she was still just Anastasia and what a lack of compassion she had at the end. You can already see her starting to lose it in these episodes.

And after the death of Valide Nurbanu Sultana in 1583, Murad brought his favourite concubine "Haseki Safiya Sultana" back to Topkapi Palace and made her the custodian of the harem... After Nurbanu Sultana, Safiya Sultana became the most powerful woman. After Murad's death in 1595, Safia Sultana's son Mehmet became Sultan. In this way, she emerged from Haseki Safia Sultana as Valida Safia Sultana in power and cruelty. Then after Mehmet III' death in 1603, his son Ahmad I ascended the throne. Among the first major political decisions, Ahmad deprived his grandmother of power and then, according to Ottoman tradition, a few months later in 1604, his grandmother Safiya Sultana was sent to the Eski Saray (old palace). This was the end of Safiya's reign which continued for 19 years through her husband and son. Safiya began construction of the Yeni Mosque, the "New Mosque" Istanbul in 1597, but after Mehmet's death, Safiya Sultana lost power and was permanently exiled to the old palace, leading to the construction of the mosque stopped and no Sultan paid attention to this mosque. Finally, it was completed in 1665 by the Valida Turhan Hatice Sultana. Safia Sultana died in 1619 in old palace during the reign of her great-grandson Sultan Osman II and was buried in the tomb of Murad III in Hagia Sophia Mosque. In 1563, at the age of 13, safiya was gifted by late Prince Mehmet's daughter Hamasah Sultana as a concubine named "Safiya Hatun" to her cousin Prince Murad, who later became Prince Murad's favorite concubine. Prince Murad was the son of Selim II and Nurbanu Sultana. But there is some difference in history According to some historians, it was Princess Mihrimah Sultana who presented Safiya as a gift to her nephew. Both the names are found in history, then the authors mentioned Humasah Sultana and some agree on Mihrimah Sultana. Safiye Sultana also one of the eminent figures during the era known as the "Sultanate of Women". She lived in the Ottoman Empire as a courtier during the reigns of 7 sultans: Safiya Sultana also had good relations with the international level, especially with England. Shee persuaded Mehmet III to allow the English ambassador to accompany him on his campaign in Hungary. A unique aspect of Safiya's power is that Safiya corresponded personally with Queen Elizabeth I of England, and history also mentions these two women exchanging gifts .... Many sons and daughters of Haski Safiya Sultana were born from Murad III Humasah Sultana (1564/65-1649) Ayse Sultana (1570-1605 Mehmet III (1566-1603) Shahzade Selim (before 1567-1580) Shahzade Mahmud (1568 to 1580) Fatima Sultana (1573-1620) Mihrimah Sultana (1578-1625) she was born shortly after the death of Mihrimah Sultana daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, in whose honor she was named. Fahriye Sultana (approximate 1579-1656) Mihrimah and Fahria Sultana Probably Safiya Sultana's daughter but there are some doubts in the history. All these things are based on reality which is found in history books, now you can imagine how much history is shown in the drama "Magnificent Century" ????

It’s so painful seeing Handan struggle with her duties as Valide sultan. Everything she touches fails, I just can’t understand how she is so bad at carrying out the duties she’s been preparing for since Ahmed was a child. It’s embarrassing that Humasha sultan has just arrived at the palace and has already been more productive then Handan. Even Kosem as a new sultana would do a better job as Valide compared to Handan.

Dervish pasha has already failed. He has not been Grand Viser a week and hes already Entwined with power. Just like Ibrahim. Not going to lie i see massive similaritys between Kosem and Hurrem's storylines. the current main factor is Suleyman has more willpower than Ahmed. Thus Kosem is more able to control Ahmed and the government then Hurrem could. Since Suleyman was strong willed since the Beginning.
Yes. In the beginning, the fact that Ahmed is very young and kinda 'weak' is a bit of a disappointment, because you can't help compare him to Süleyman. But really... that's kinda the point of the story. It's the story of a Sultanate, without a strong, experienced ruler. Surrounded by absolute hyenas. And with another potential heir left alive. I wasn't so sure about this series in the beginning, but now I'm hooked, actually. And not because I'm rooting for any particular character (Beren Saat as Kosem doesn't really work for me all that well, I have to admit), but because I want to see, how the story plays out.
