ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Kestrels of Fotherdale
Filmed using cameras hidden inside their owl box, known as Sycamore Stump and situated in my garden at Fotherdale, Yorkshire, this film takes you through their breeding year as they court and raise chicks.
The fight for survival
Watch this kestrel pair fight brutal battles to secure their nest site --and their eggs - and see them fight for the survival of all six chicks in this heart-warming tale of falcon survival.
To raise six healthy chicks
And watch as the kestrel chicks grow and find their wings, eventually flying free to begin a life independently in the wild.

I love the part when, confronted with these new creatures, the dad lays the food on his babies like, "I know this is for you. Somehow. Do you...do you eat it? WHERE IS YOUR MOTHER?"
That's exactly what happened I think
Bless that poor male’s heart He had no idea how to feed his kids but he tried
More then my bio dad ever did for me. Lol
It's the equivalent to saying: Dad - Here's some canned corned beef for you yougins' Baby - Goo Goo Gaa Gaa Dad - Yep enjoy lul 🤣
I mean at least he’s trying his best so I can’t blame him
And then the next season he learned how to feed them all by himself after his mate disappeared. RIP Mr. Kes, you truly were the GOAT.
“I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family.” ~ George W. Bush
You might live in the “middle of nowhere” as such but you seem to be right in the midst of a totally dramatic soap opera of nature.. Excellently captured on film again btw. Thank you, this is truly rare footage that none of us would usually witness.
It is great to be able to share all these stories with everyone.
@@RobertEFuller No no thank You! These videos are not what other KZheadrs tend to post and they are so personal to you and to the content you are sharing. Keep on keeping on its all absolutely fascinating x
The male trying to feed them is cute he’s like “come on babies why aren’t you eating it” he gets an A for effort and attempt
Your intervention saved the eggs and sealed the survival of this beautiful clutch ....thank you Robert for all you do and for sharing with us...
Helping them was high risk and but we pulled it off and amazing all 6 fledged
Wow that was amazing video so beautiful ❤❤❤ thanks for hard work love it 👏👏👏
Those early attacks on the nest were so scary. I was so relieved that all six chicks were safe and grew to fledging. These parents were awesome in their feeding and protection of the nest……a happy ending indeed!
Yes it was amazing they got all 6 fledged even surprise me this year !
So...at about 23 min in, when he gets the chicks to put on their identification rings, is this what getting abducted by aliens might be like?
🛸 👽 yes lol
We keep the process as quickly as possible but kestrels chicks are always a bit feisty
@@RobertEFuller these kestrels look much bigger than the one's in AMERICA.I would watch these lovely birds hunt in the open field next to my house
Lol
Idk
it was a rocky start for Mr. and Mrs. Kes, but I'm happy to hear that a complete batch of new kestrels grew up to be feisty and healthy new hunters. I'm excited to see at least one from these batch returning and starting a life of their own. The couple kestrels did a wonderful job working together and raising all 6 chicks. Also, your efforts has really helped the chicks survive!
Love these long videos. It's like a mini movie. Great job and informative as always!
Thanks we will do more longer videos it’s great to see there hole story from this year
@@RobertEFuller dear Robert, do these birds remember their siblings for life? Like when they are ready to mate, would they know if the other partner is a sibling or not? And also thank you so so so much for these videos. Your voice and the footage are just amazing.

Did I just see a bunny running along the hedge row? Run bunny run the Kestrels are flying!
Yes run rabbit run
Kudos for the hard work allowing more of these beautiful raptors to fly the skies of England. Now if someone could replicate this on the other side of the pond!
Thanks 😊
Absolutely. .. Or replicate this exceptional quality of work and dedication somewhere in that funny place Europe.
OMG 😲 three Tigers in same time kzhead.infonbuGKIqefqU?feature=share
Where...Australia?
Where’s the male kestrel at night when the female keeps fighting the owls alone?
Well done these kestrel parents. It was such a great job for them that they worked so hard together to protect the six chicks and were able to raise all chicks safely. I always enjoy watching such a wonderful wildlife drama and the environment there through your videos.
Thanks 😊 it was brilliant to see all 6 make it
Poor Mrs. Kes! I'd read that she'd had a number of confrontations in the breeding seasons leading up to the current one. But I suspect a confrontation like the one with the Jackdaw would have left deep emotionally traumatic scars on any bird, with or without other serious confrontations before or after. Whatever happened to her this season must have been more than she could face again. Hopefully, she survived and is out there someplace quiet learning how to let it go and start life again.
These are better then movies! Thank you for taking care of some of the beautiful creatures that live on this earth with us!
Thanks 😊 so much
The kestrel eggs are as beautiful as the feathers of the parents.
“The chicks are hungry and the male is confused” lmao
the Bird property market is more brutal than the human one, Mr Owl needs a good attorney, maybe a Golden Eagle. Amazing film
I am really amazed by the intelligence of birds from this video and the daily struggle they went through !
Thanks that’s what we try to show in our videos life isn’t simple for wildlife by a long way and yes wildlife is intelligent 😃
Great content Robert. As others have mentioned, I very much enjoy these longer videos, as it feels like a mini-movie and you're invested in the natural progression of nature. Keep up the excellent work.
Well said - the progress of the kestrels with eggs, chicks, etc. is so natural and we are so lucky to watch this what you create with cameras and yourself. Thank you very much! Robert Fuller!
Glad you enjoyed it 😃 We will try to do more longer videos
Lindo demais. Obrigada por compartilhar
I Appreciate you capturing the lives of these Gorgeous Kestrels and sharing your love of nature with much information!!! Thank you 😊🤗💕
It’s a big job capturing all those moments but worth it when the hole film comes together 😃
@@RobertEFuller llnjkjj6
It’s actually quite amazing that the chicks aren’t harmed in all these shenanigans.
Yes they have been so lucky The female kestrel grabs the legs of the owls that come in ! She is smart
I can never get enough of these videos. Thank you Robert!
And thanks for watching
It's fantastic to see six kestrels fledge. I hope they all survive to their first birthday.
As a falconer and a lover of kestrels, I adore these videos, keep up the good work mate
I never realized how kestrels have to defend their nests from a variety of other birds, this was an amazing video, thanks!
I am absolutely speechless at this footage, what amazing stamina this family has. Thanks Robert, God bless you.
Glad you enjoyed it 😁 we love seeing it all come together into a film after such a lot of work it’s worth it
Outstanding photography and story telling. I never realised before watching your educational videos how hard it is for raptors to survive and keep their eggs/chicks safe. I had never considered the inter species rivalries and competition for nesting sights. As I said, outstanding thank you.
Thanks 😊 we didn’t know how difficult it was for raptors either until we started studying them 24/7 it amazing what the cameras reveal
Poor mum. The battles she goes through to raise her young 💙
I know and she got all 6 chicks to fledgling stage
The wonderful Mr. and Mrs.Kes and their super brood of six. Interesting to see Ghost and Willow the barn owls were after that site too.
I was emotionally invested in mummy Kestrel fighting off those intruders, it was like watching a thriller, I love these long videos. UK
Thanks 😊 we will do more longer stories
Those are such great videos!! I usually have a problem keeping the focus on videos longer than 10 minutes but this is so well-paced and narrated that I didn't even realize it was more than 30 minutes long.
Mom,! Mom! Guess what!? This Giant came and took us, put a bracelet on us, stuffed us in a bag and brought us back home! That's nice dearies.
That was epic buddy!!! Nail biting stuff in the early days and a spot on helping hand when they needed it, well done! Loved that, it was a superb slice of natural history, thanks for sharing their story 😉👌👍 … JP
Totally agree!! Jus love to see how d story of this kestral family unfolded b4 our very eyes. I've watched a few videos on d bald eagles bringing up their brood of only 2-3 chicks, and how brutal those chicks can b to each other, esp d eldest one towards d younger ones at meal times while d parents look on. Yet this kestral mom took care of all 6 chicks with fairness and d chicks didn't try to kill each other! Such wonder!! Tq so much for d show, love and fascinated by it!! 💕💞💕
Thanks so glad you enjoyed it kestrels are one of my favourites and there is always a bit of drama along the way but what a result 6 fledged

So much more gripping and memorable than the vast majority of "movies"! Thank you Robert!
What amazing parents (plus helpful giant)! Managing to raise all six chicks!
She did a fantastic job of raising all of these chicks - it was great to be able to watch them grow into young kestrels.
Love the words "against all odds" all six Kestrel chicks have fledged, and are now making their way I'm the world with so much loving care from their parents and Robert supplementing the feeding ❤
You’ve brought so much joy to our little American home. Thank you for all you do and sharing it with us 🙂
Great 👍 glad you are enjoying my channel plenty more wildlife to come 😁
Female Kestrel: lays eggs, broods, hunts food, has no babysitter, feeds chicks, regularly fights intruders, sacrifices sleep, struggles to keep chicks warm Male Kestrel to new born chick: Eat the lizard
Actually☝️the male and female kestrels take turns hunting and brooding. Though it seems like one is obviously better at handling chicks than the other lol.
The female Kestrel is a true trooper 💪😌

Thank you for the beautiful and exciting video that reached me on a sleepless night. You're doing a great job and great videos. Thanks for your work and the help for the animals.
Hi 👋 Dagmar glad you enjoyed this on it great seeing the hole story just show what kestrels have to go through to raze there brood
Kestrels are so cute! I love them so much!🐣🐥🦅🦉🦍❤️💕💞💖💗💓!!!!!
I can't imagine bringing up six kids/teens in a home that's equivalent to a hotel suite. Imagine all the bickering! "Mom, Jenny stepped on my wing!" "She started it! She took my lizard!" "It's not fair! Why can't I go out and hunt like you and Dad do?" The kestrel pair have more patience than I could ever have.
😂
Yes 6 quite a handful
@@RobertEFuller I'm sure it's worth it to see your babies grown up and starting their own lives, though. Thank you for responding and please keep up the great work. "hey mum how do you like my new jewellery"
👍👏👏😁
Growing up in jamaica I used to enjoy watching the kestrels, such beautiful and graceful birds
What an emotional rollercoaster.
That was more high drama and danger than you'd see in most HBO shows, and it's just another day in the life for these birds. Cheers to Mr and Mrs Fotherdale Kestrel for making it through all that with their kids.
There always seems to be a lot of drama at a Kestrels nest . But 6 fledged 🥳
A mother can sacrifice all her body parts and life to safe guard the babies. Well done Mothers!!
what an adventure, and with your small intervention all six kestrels grew up fine! what a joy to see a good ending to their story

Amazing record fella, what great parents 👏🏻
Thanks for helping them.
Thank-You Robert!
Brilliant Robert amazing to watch. Last year I Was privileged to watch a pair successfully raise 3 chicks and all fledged.
Oh wow Robert that was an amazingly beautiful I loved it how the one backed up to the wall when you put the last one back in it was so cute thanks so much
I never get tired of watching these videos
Beautiful seeing the whole Brood make the journey too fledgling! Thanks for the Show!
The time you put into these videos is amazing! Thank you for making them. I enjoy them so much. Your home is so beautiful!
I have just thought about that litter after the Owls. The Kestrels seem to be more exquisite, and it was so kind of You to clean the place for them, which they appreciated.
Robert, you should win awards for these videos. In certain ways they are better than nature documentaries by BBC and other big corporations. Really, it's because of your commentary, the type of footage, the music and professional video editing. I've never seen documentaries that cover local wildlife activities like this. It's so educational, exciting and fascinating! Plus, you actively help when it's needed. Thank you so much. You are a treasure!
Robert is such a perfect narrator!! These are my favorite videos and I love when he says "she enters the nest with purpose" 😁
I really enjoyed watching these kestrel parents raise these beautiful chicks in the live stream what a treat to see the whole story unfold in this wonderful movie!
