Amazing Mineral Discovery deep underground at Cerro Gordo!

I got to spend a couple days at the Ghost Town Cerro Gordo. Run by Brent from @GhostTownLiving this former Silver and Lead, which turned into a ghost town when the mine shut down. Has been resurrected as a tourist destination as well as the most amazing source of content for Brent's KZhead channel Ghost Town Living. @GhostTownLiving
Brent took Jason @mbmmllc and myself to the 400 foot level of the mine to investigate a mineral pocked he found which we discovered had some very cool properties. Check out the adventure!

    • @@duragdan2000 I've watched quite a few of the videos that Brent has put out, and I can't stand watching any more. The one in which Brent documented how all their vehicles and equipment were just left out in the weather during a hellacious snowstorm, many of the buildings weren't checked for doors being closed, how his water pipes froze because he couldn't be bothered to insulate them OR wrap them with heat tape, and a bunch of other stupidities was just about the last one I could stomach. I left a very detailed comment on that video about all of his failures and the extremely basic measures that should have been taken to prevent them, and in the next video he posted, he spoke about how they had changed a lot of their practices at Cerro Gordo without specifically mentioning negative feedback, but my comment was one of many criticizing his bad decisions. I'd bet good money that some of his investors watch all of those videos, read the comments, and gave Brent some marching orders. After all, it's their money at risk too.

    • @@duragdan2000 It pains me to see quality YT'rs who are passionate about what they're doing and sharing good adventures with the world being taken in by this Cerro Gordo nonsense. An investment firm creating a tourist trap under the guise of an off grid living/restoration project that takes advantage of unsuspecting people that follow them is deplorable. I cannot imagine Dan has the full backstory or perhaps I hope he doesn't because I don't want to believe he's part of "it".

    • @@Petta79 are you guys off your meds? If he wanted to turn a profit from Cerro Gorod and turn it into some tourist trap he's doing an exceptionally bad job off it. 3 years and no mention of tourism opening anytime soon, really bad ROI. Or maybe, he's just a former investment dude who's decided to move out to the mountains. Y'all should apply occums razor to this and see if it makes any sense (It really doesn't, which leads to thought to him living there cus he wants to)

      @JohanHultin@JohanHultin Жыл бұрын
    • @@Petta79 - Wow, really? That's disappointing but I can't say I'm surprised. It's rare that something just "is" and remains untainted by some disassociated assholes just after a return on an investment. I'm waaaaay too far away to volunteer but I know a little about a lot and would have helped if possible. I hope all the volunteers are getting some kind of compensation if Brent is backed by investors.

  • Bless you Dan Hurd. I'm a bit older than you and was a Rock-Head for a great many years. My profession was not in minerals, so my time hounding was not as great, but it was the joy of my life. I didn't go very far underground because I was always solo, but still have some world-class specimens. I thought you were right about the "fibrous" mineral really being selenite. I have a lot of experience with the Kelly Mine near Magdalena N.M., home of probably the finest examples of blue turkey fat. There always was some "bubbly" orange/brown/yellow smithsonite that looked just like you found, but never the fibrous. I bless you because my age and especially health caught up with me some 15 years ago and I am unable to ever collect again. I have had a great many outdoor "things": solo backpacking, whitewater rafting, and hounding. But nothing was as much fun as the discovery of minerals to blow the mind. Your videos permit me to live vicariously through your "eyes", and I am so grateful for you.

    • Can i ask what wavelength you would define as long wave Black light? Because UV is even shorter wavelength than visible light. But i would expect it to be something arround 385nm. I modded enough flashlights (365nm, 385 and ~400nm and all other kinds of LEDs) with LEDs new drivers and for example 365nm ZWB2 bandpass filters that i find this really interesting!

  • 30:53 well you got this one wrong azurite is solid blue and not opaque, that there is chrysocolla my friend and worth a lot more than azurite, gem quality chrysocolla can be thousands a gram. That doesn’t look like gem quality but it’s hard to tell on the video great adventure with tons of cool samples thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼

  • I think I'm going to start digging a tunnel a mile deep in this solid rock mountain to see if there is any abnormally heavy rocks inside. Great video.
