  • City felt prrssure the most. In the first half, Inter was able to stop City building from the back, City could barely play out from the back. Inter man-marked all City players man to man. This was because City's set-up was predictable and Inter were more than ready for it. This is why Pep likes to come up with an unfamiliar game plan in games like this, to stun the opponent. But because people accuse him of overthinking, he came out with what everybody knows. What saved City was that they were able to keep Inter at Bay in the first half. In the 2nd Half, Pep tweaked his tactics a bit. He reverted to a back 4, using Ake and Stones as inverted full backs, using Rodri as a single pivot instead and then pushing Rodri a bit higher. This was how the goal was able to come. For me I expect Pep to do something crazy. I expected him to take off Haaland and bring on Alvarez, Play Alvarez as a false 9 sort of, as Alvarez was more comfortable on the ball and would have provided a solid numerical advantage in midfield for City. And Alvarez is also good in long-range shots as well, which would have been another attacking option. Stones and Bernardo for me were City's best players for me. I think it's high time Pep re-introduce tiki-taka back to this City's side. That triangle quick passing would have Helped City beat any press and man-marking. This is why Pep's Barcelona remains his greatest team so far. In the end, City were lucky not to conceed to be honest. City, going forward, will be more relaxed in the Champions League and I see them winning another Champions League under Pep before Pep leaves.

    • I won't say City play was 'predictable' It's more of City struggle against teams who plays a 5-3-2 to 3-5-2 transition, good examples are Conte/Jose with Spurs, Brentford and Lyon years ago.. Teams with that formation are dangerous in the transition And also include Phil, he game style changed the way Inter also defended

      @user-qc8ms5wj1w@user-qc8ms5wj1w11 ай бұрын
    • @@user-qc8ms5wj1w I agree with you. Inter were just a lot defensive. It's not easy to play through a good defensive team who also play a back five. Has nothing to do with predictability cuz his tactics weren't the generic 4 back, 3 midfielders, 3 attackers. He even dropped Walker.

    • Pretty much all City players looked nervous and kind of scared. That‘s what was holding them back in my opinion. So many sloppy passes and unforced errors, the pressure got to them and they couldnt play as freely as usual. However having finally won the Champions league, i guess it will be easier in the coming seasons as the pressure now finally fell off.

      @taaaaaaaazzzzzz@taaaaaaaazzzzzz11 ай бұрын
    • I think City were just nervous. Not because of inters tactics as they were making mistakes as soon as the whistle went. Inter's pressure meant they couldn't build up and find form but I wouldn't say that it was the pressure they placed which threw City off their game. City's game was already off. City were poor from the start and Inter never allowed them to string passes giving them the confidence they usually show Even in the first half, despite the nerves City had quite a few good opportunities and if they played at their usual capacity then pep not overthinking it and implementing the form he did was the best option. There were three good opportunities City had in the first half that City usually capitalises on but failed in this game. - Silva had a shot that just went over the bar - Haaland had an opportunity but the angle wasn't as sharp as he was aiming for. Instead of going to the far post, it went straight to the keeper - KDB had a pass straight to Grealish where Grealish's first touch failed miserable losing the ball to Inter I also disagree that City's formation was predictable. City could have easily gone with their usual formation from the start which they did in the second half

    • it's just proves that CL is all about luck. Madrid-idiots couldn't accept this single fact last year ( that they won cus they were LUCKY AS FUCK). But now they say that city is lucky xD The lucky one is inter( as well), for going into a bracket between Milan, benfica and napoli. Where City was in a bracket with Real madrid, bayern and Chelsea. And ended up going up against real madrid and Bayern. 2 teams that would almost certainly knock out inter in a 2 match showdown. However, with how the brackets ended up, it was certain that one "weaker" team would make it to the finals... Which is huge luck for them. City has been unlucky and always the superior in every single match they play and never won CL. Finally they played worse but had some luck with them, and won their first CL. it completly proves my point that CL is incredibly lucky, same as world cup... and yet ppl use those trophies as "measurement" of the goat teams and players. While Races like laliga and Premier legue are much more accurate cus it proves consistancy, and not just 1-4 lucky matches.

Sometimes you dominate and still lose like it happened to City last year against Real Madrid. And today they played worse than usual but managed to win. Nobody can say it was undeserved though, as City won the treble and defeated strong opponens convincingly throughout the UCL. Not their best game, Inter probably deserved more. • Great Analysis and I wish you covered Inter’s tactics more too !!! Inter Milan made effective use of their goalkeeper, Onana, to initiate their attacks with long passes in the middle zone of the field, targeting Dzeko. To create an advantageous situation, they pushed Barella to the right-hand side, aiming to overload Ake . They did the same thing on the left with Calhanoglu overloading Akanji (a 2v1 situation). This forced Gundo and Rodri, the Man City midfielders, to provide cover for their teammates. As a result of this overload and the consequent need for coverage, Inter created space in the middle zone of the field. Onana, being the skilled passer that he is, capitalized on this space and delivered long passes to Dzeko, who dropped deep to receive the ball. From there, Dzeko had the option to distribute the ball to either Barella or Colhanoglu, who were positioned in support of Martinez, Darmaco, and Damfries, who had already pushed up high to launch attacks.

    • Overall Inter Milan's tactics involved utilizing Onana's passing ability to make long passes in the middle zone, targeting Dzeko. They created an overload on the right-hand side by pushing Barella to draw Ake and Calhanoglu's attention, thus forcing Gundo and Rodri to provide cover. This, in turn, created space in the middle zone, enabling Onana to make accurate long passes to Dzeko, who then had options to distribute the ball to Barella or Colhanoglu, who were supporting the attacking players. Overall, this tactical approach allowed Inter Milan to effectively exploit the spaces created by their positional play and utilize their players' strengths to launch attacking moves against Man City in the Champions League final.

Pep didn't win through tactical superiority, but rather due to superior quality of the players (or lack of finishing quality by Inter), and simply sheer luck. This is coming from a City fan of 20+ years and all I can say is that the football gods were on our side. Pep's philosophy is only suited for drawn out week-in/week-out league style of competition, and isn't suited for knock-out tournaments.

  • Give this City team the respect these players have earned, City did amazing. The winner in a football is the team that scores the most goals. City did that. Inter entered this match from an underdog position, where City were favorites from before the group stages. That pressure was immense on the players, having never winning it. City did what was needed to win. Great game from inter, but the only stat that matters at the final whistle, is the score line. City create their luck by being the best team throughout the competition, which got them to the finals. They’ve played more games than inter have, all year. They created the moment where luck was all that was needed, just like Chelsea did two seasons ago, and just like Real Madrid did against City last season.
