  • I made a katana. It took me just over 17 weeks. Did you know, that the bend in the blade is made WHEN you water temp the blade? I don't know what you call that. Maybe knock off. Any stock grinder can make a knock off, but only a skilled craftsman, who loves his craft can make a katana. Knowledge is something you need more of my friend. . A katana is also made with mid grade steel. The spine is soft. No BS. Look it up.

    • It's called "sori" and it is a consequence of martensite state steel crystals on the edge being larger than the perlite crystals on the rest of the blade.

      @gwcstudio@gwcstudio7 ай бұрын
    • A katana should be made with Tamahagane which translates to "precious steel" or "purest steel", not "mid grade". and not everyone has that kind of time, instead he made his own variant on the Katana style/shape. Congrats on doing it your way. (genuinely congrats its a hard thing to do) but belittling someone else for doing it differently then you did is kinda shitty. he probably knows all of this and to assume he does/doesnt isnt our job, our job is to watch, maybe give the helpful "tip" here and there.. not call someones hard work a "Knock off."

  • I’m sorry I died a lot inside watching you do this, you showed 1 fold in the process, you didn’t shape the sword with a hammer you used a grinder to cut the kissaki(tip edge) and then cut the tang instead of shaping it with the hammer and then proceeded to ruin said tang by cutting pointed “v’s” into it which will wreaking it even more than the small little tang you had….. The instead of doing a proper oval shape with some of the wood you have you make a round bamboo handle that is hard to hold on to and will make the blade twist in your hand, and to secure it to the sword you used what looked like jb weld……. I cannot say this was even a 1/10 in work it just wasn’t as good as you could have done.

IMHO the Damascus pattern is there, but not great. The effort is there, but you could do it much better than this. Pay more attention on the details of the katana. Regardless, its a good headstart towards making a great sword. Keep up with the hardwork🍻
