Thank goodness he's available to work again! This project is going to be even more epic than the kitchen. I can't wait to see it start to come together.

they do that a lot where I live. plastering is way more expensive if you hire someone than just putting a wallpaper over it and calling it done 😂 I call it one of the landlords special haha

The destruction IS exciting! Getting to see all the messy bits is what I enjoy, especially as it reminds me of our 1928 house we are currently rehabbing. At one point, there was so much plaster/lathe rubble in the basement that we joked it looked like a road construction project. Love the enfilade view through your suite of rooms. This is going to be MEGA!
OMG, BENÔIT IS BACK 🥰. I love love love the friendly banter and the snappy comebacks between P&B. And P, I don’t think you run the danger of losing viewers.. there’s something satisfying in watching the process of transforming spaces. Husband and I we both love fixing and making things better, and I’m sure we’re not the only ones. Just watching Anna empty that room at the beginning gave me fuzzy feelings like “oh, this space is going to be gorgeous”.

Stripping wallpaper off is not an easy task especially when it’s been on there for 50 years. I truly applaud you, Anna, for being willing to do that yourself and not hiring it done!! The two of you, you and Philip have just been remarkable in the process of renovating the Château. I am so very impressed with the quality of work you have done, and also the humor you put into the videos for those of us who watch. I think you are very special couple, and you truly are a very lucky couple to get through the projects you have gotten through with humor and laughter and not anger like so many people do.!!!! oh, maybe it was just my husband was wrong for me, but I can tell you he could get so angry about the simplest of things and it made it so challenging to renovate our home when we were trying to do the addition or just change one room to something better. I hated it the children heard, his temper during those days. Anyway, I’m so happy for you both and everything you do is so lovely. I bought a steam machine years back for just the same project: blue wallpaper in the bathroom, and it behaved just the same way where I had to steam up and easily scrape off the golden paper layer. I noticed that the residue of white spots left on the pale blue wall in the video looks kind of interesting, as if you could design a similar look to that which would have an ethereal feel to it. I don't think Philip needs to worry about boring moments. You have more subscribers still than Dan Preston does, though he is zooming upward rapidly, and that was even while he was just shuffling fallen rocks and scrubby overgrowth around! You're tearing down worn out elegance, and he's tearing down disaster. WE all just want to sit around and watch the return of beauty. I think you're safe!

I hate removing wallpaper but I have found one thing that helps. Use a spray bottle and wet the paper prior to trying any removal. It really makes a difference. Maybe you have tried that already

I can't imagine what the ceiling is going to be like getting that wall paper off... my mother wallpapered the kitchen in the late '60's, it had an extra coating on the outside of it and was used especially in kitchens and bathrooms, the glue they used then was extra smelly too and super thick yellow stuff, you put it on almost like a thin plaster. The great thing about that paper was you could wash the walls real easy over and over and it always looked like new. My sister tried taking the wallpaper off 10 years ago and it was almost impossible, in fact, they replaced one wall instead of taking the paper off. So, I have an idea of what you're going through with this project.

There's a lot I like about these videos. For example, it is clear that they are edited by a professional filmmaker. But one of the things I also like a lot is the choice of music. You sort of created a signature by the consistent choice of more or less classical music. Just wanted to let you know I appreciate that. It also earned you a lot of thumbs up from me.

Yes, that wallpaper is a pain. It was pretty popular here in the USA in the 60's and 70's. It's a vinyl wall paper to withstand the wet bathroom. Horrible to remove. We had some that wouldn't peel off the backing. It was horrible. You did excellent work on a nasty job! And happy belated birthday.
Before watching videos like this I never liked tidying up and didn’t put much effort into it but because I see how effective it is I can motivate myself more😂👌 so thank you!
Trick with the vinyl wallpaper is to get one of these score rollers which allows for the steam to get through.

Yep, vinyl wallpaper with a paper lining. I had it in two of the bedrooms of a 1915 Craftsman Bungalow home purchased in 1992. Yes, the wallpaper was very easy to pull off (in full sheets from floor to ceiling), very fun and satisfying. But the paper lining was stuck firm onto lath and plaster walls. Back then I didn't know that there was such a thing as a steamer. So, after removing the vinyl I used 10% fabric softener with water and sprayed it on the paper liner. Allowed it to soak in for 15 minutes then scraped it off. What a mess, just like your piles. The addition of fabric softener is twofold, it helps to swell up the papers fibers, actually lifting it off the walls for easier scraping, and the smell was wonderful, especially when one it is removing 40-year-old paper from a home that had chain smokers! Thank you for sharing your labor of love. Best to all of you from California.

Oh to see you stripping off that wallpaper. I did that many times in my life of renovations. What a tedious job! But your determination and youthfulness made it happen.
