Intense 48 Hours in Beijing China 🇨🇳

2024 ж. 18 Мам.

48 hours in Beijing, China - one of the Asia's biggest & least understood capital cities. We started this intense two days, and day one, outside of Beijing at the incredible Great Wall of China - a bucket list item for everyone travelling to China. Later on we head back in to the city to explore some of the main sights of Beijing before heading to the infamous 'fake market' and then later, out in to a local area of the city to experience get more of a feel for local life. China and its friendly people have honestly surprised us at every turn so far, which once again has reminded us not to judge a book by its cover and to believe everything you are told 🇨🇳

  • I was privileged to visit the Great Wall in 2007 with my Dad who was 71 at the time. He still remembers how he got to the top of the Great Wall to this day - under his own steam. He is now 87 and that is a precious memory for me and us.

  • “If you want to explore the 3000 years of history, go to Xi'an. If you want to explore the 1000 years of history, go to Beijing. If you want to explore the last 100 years of China going from colonization to modernization, go to Shanghai. If you want to see modern blade-runner-like infrastructure and seemingly impossible urban planning done in the last 40 years, go to Chongqin. If you want to see the future, go to Shenzhen. And If add the different landscapes and biomes that China offers, there would be no end to the list.” Have a great time.

  • I know how you feel. We visited in October 2023, 6 cities, and also captured a lot of the journey as well. I was impressed by how much China has progressed and developed since our previous visit in 2011. We also walked the same section of the Great Wall as you. I did not want to leave our last trip and we have plans to visit again later this year. Beautiful country, often feels like you are in a postcard. Beautiful friendly people. Thank you for sharing your adventure. Cheers from Australia.

  • From the comments, I seem to feel that Westerners’ understanding of China is still stuck in the last century, while Chinese people are full of yearning for the West through textbooks and TV. The Chinese government has always liked to report on the good side, including reports from the West. Chinese people think that the West is very advanced, developed and wealthy, but in fact the West is not a paradise. China is not what Westerners imagine, and everyone lacks understanding of each other

    • It’s actually a lot like that. The Chinese Ministry termed it Cultural Hegemony in its 2023 article US Hegemony and Its Perils. Cultural Hegemony starts with promoting white supremacy to its own populations of the Anglo Saxon world. 8 media companies control 90% of what Americans read, watch and hear including publishers of children books and textbooks. Hollywood movies occupied 70% of global markets. Before people know it, kids of all races have learned to sing Frozen’s Let It Go and fell in love with white princes and princesses. Then they dream of putting on wedding gowns and celebrate Christmas 🎄. Often westerners use the word “culture” like interesting culture or fascinating culture. Actually it’s burned in their minds that they are the superior culture and others are interesting, fascinating, exotic, or beautiful, the same vocabulary for loving animals or flowers. The pictures of Indians or tribesmen were in their children books.

  • Having met a Beijing lady online back in late 2006 and corresponding for five months she invited me to visit her in March of 07. Her sister also met someone online and we shared an awesome two weeks together in Beijing touring many historical sites one being the Great Wall. This video brings back great memories of the long walk and surrounding scenery. Of course March was much busier with many visitors to the Wall plus those days back then seemed more welcoming to the country. We also took a 12 hour train ride to Xi'an City which is also a must do to put on your bucket list. Would love to go back one day! Ganbei!

  • The Wall by itself is tiring, but totally agree that the view is one of the amazing in the world. Your video shows the great scenery, but being there and seeing with own eyes is a totally different thing. It is like watching music videos and going to concerts. Lucky, we were there in winter. Cannot imagine people climbing when it is hot. Cheers.

Remember china was oded to the world for many years before that, and before the bamboo curtain closed tourism was for the super rich Marco polo took noodles and icecream back to Italy. You will also find some areas are different to in cuisne. Some have noodles another rice I visited a hawkers market in xian next to a new supermarket and that definitely was a most interest ng experience

  • Totally agree you should take time to just wander in a new city, get into residential areas, especially a big and famous one. You don't get a flavour for it otherwise. I'd love to explore the Forbidden City, but by going off track this made it a really interesting film with a different perspective.
