  • i had an older blackview with flir camera, its been brilliant apart from a seeknin battery fault, where when you plug it in to charge it decides its -20degrees and only charges at a snails pace, shame because its still perfectly good otherwise, I ended up replacing it with a ulefone armour 19 with the thermal camera, seems pretty good so far, its a chunky bugger, but the battery life is insane!

  • Ive had a bv9800 pro since they came out and its pretty good apart from being a bit "buggy" love the flir and its waterproof 👍👍 also ive replaced screens, batteries, load speakers, alloy side strips the back and also the lenses after various accidents including running it over with a stiga flailmower and jamming it in an audi door jam ,its kinda like triggers broom🙄 the parts are cheap enough from a certain Chinese online site 😉 i normally order the screen in the alloy frame that way it comes with new buttons and earpiece etc and its only like 15 quid more 🤷‍♂️ i can vouch for the "ruggedness" as i smoked 2 cat s60s when they first came out😢😢 dont exspect blistering performance and the battery degrades pretty quick and i can only seem to get knock offs with the genuine sticker on it 🙄

    • Don't replace screens or batteries on, or otherwise open IPX7x phones (or anything explicitly designed to be end-user-serviceable, to that matter) if you want them to keep the rating-assuming it was the reason you got the phone in the first place. Unfortunately, they are no longer submersion-proof. Better shell some dough and get a factory refurb. I had an S60 too-preordered 2 of them, waited a few months. That was the first rugged one that could be called a smartphone, i.e. on par with regular ones. That was the one that started it all. If they only hadn't stuck with 6GB RAM (had their flagship 2023 model got a whopping upgrade to 8G? I forgot.) Also, the S60 overheated on the car dashboard and shut itself down with amazing regularity. They started the trend, but cannot keep up with it. Yes, the battery loses oomph over time. Use fast charge as rarely as possible. They say modern batteries are ok with it, but I know enough of battery chemistry/physics to doubt that: you cannot cheat physics. The faster you charge, the faster dendrites grow on electrodes; then they pierce dielectric, they short and melt, and leave a tiny dot on the separator which subtracts from the total separator area. It's a death by thousand paper cuts, essentially. Someone who'll have solved this problem completely and patenet it, will be an instant billionaire. But the 20+ years of Li rechargables R&D leave me rather pessimistic. LiTi are the the least susceptible (30% capacity drop after 10,000 cycles is achievable), but have the least capacity per kg, too low for portables. My BV9900 Pro (Android 10-they came with A.9 at first) is also hardly at a half-capacity. But I can't really say anything bad about it. The only thing that I suspect is it doesn't have standard “analog accessory wiring” on the USB connector; at least, no wired (analog with USBC connector) headset worked except those that came with it, which I promptly lost. But BT even better, you don't tangle in the wire. The UI is a bit wonky, but it does the job at the end, and one get used to it. Really love their Toolbox app-noticed its scrolling by in this demo of BL8800, too. A lot of useful stuff for construction. Wireless charger is the next best thing on Earth after Pilsner beer. Another little known feature is that it can be configured suvh that any volume key starts/stops video recording or snaps a picture-the only option under water, touchscreen doesn't work when immersed. And it didn't shut off on the dashboard even on the sunniest days. Can get hot to touch, but works. Seriously rough thing. Battery degradation is the main reason I started looking for the latest from BV. 'Fraid it will last me a year, two at most.

    • My BV9900 Pro was the one of the first with A.10, it got a few OTA updates. I don't remember any smartphone upgrading to the next major version, but I may be wrong. What exactly are you missing in Android 10? The OS is mostly a hardly visible core that handles sensors, GPU rendering, input and other vital stuff; the UI is more often than not is customized by the vendor. Your phone doesn't grow new hardware over time, which would _require_ a newer OS. If it works, don't fix it. Especially if it's a rugged model-for work, touring, sports-where your life may depend on it.

  • Considering the size of the RAM that camera is as laggy as hell. What's up with it? Not impressed with the lack of tech spec , this isn't a real review.

  • 12fps in case it was used for military purposes? The US gov needs to get with reality (a tough ask, I know!), everyone and his dog can use stuff like this now, it's nothing special any more!!! :P

  • I have the Bv9900 pro (thanks to Big Clive) it's been fine but nothing special. The one problem I have had. It super sensitive, every time I take it out of my pocket, it has unlocked, usually charged all my settings, called and text the last contact I phoned. Reordered half my Amazon shipping history. And taken 20 photos of the inside of my pocket. It drives me crazy. Still for the price it's been a solid phone, and still going strong.

    • You have a PIN set, right? RIGHT??? (Face and fingerprint unlock will still work) Higher touch sensitivity is a compromise (engineering is nearly _defined_ as the art of compromise): the touch screen should respond in the rain and to a gloved hand's finger. Rugged devices have their own quirks, of course-it's a niche, not general-purpose device.

    • @@cykkm yes pin and fingerprint all set up. I think it's the fingerprint reader that is the problem. Although I lock the phone before I put it in my pocket. It must unlock with my thumb as I put it in.
